James Stewart was not only a great actor, he also gave up acting to join the USAAF during WWII where he rose to the rank of general, flying many missions over Germany.
I was just thinking of James Stewart's Mr Smith Goes to Washington film when Palestinian leader Abbas was addressing the UN in New York - uncannily similar feeling:
