Looks like a very decent deal to me.
How come there are not many PS4 deals lately? All I see is XBox One on sale...
Have some heat, mate.

MS are still way behind in the console war so have to do what they can to increase their stake, whereas Sony are not having any problem shifting PS4's. When they do and sales start to drop (inevitable through saturation if nothing else), they will do the same, basic business concept :)

Edited By: frakison on May 23, 2017 14:11
Scorpio will be at a different price segment and will be more expensive than the PS4 Pro so this will still be sold beside it for the majority of players.

Very HOT deal.

i have a feeling they will officially announce the new project scorpio console with info etc at e3 in june so prices are coming down maybe due to that im guessing. Microsoft are pushing hard to win the console war and want to be on top.
Didn't realize Scorpio was that close...I guess that's it then :)

Isn't this the launch standard price?
Yes.
Yes it is.
Cannot understand why it's so cold in here...

Maybe because this is a deals site, not a standard price one? If everyone listed every single item in every single store this wouldn't be a very useful site
For me, the longer warrenty makes this a good deal. We got the ps4 500gb slim in white with horizon zero dawn off them at the weekend. £249 so retail price but they gave us 3 years on that too. It was purchased to replace a ps4 that died a week before the 12 month warrenty ended (tesco refunded) so the extra piece of mind this time is brilliant. My husband ps4 went bang after 6 months use too... it's like the x box ring of death all over again!
I was a bit gutted to see the ps4 and dishonoured 2 deal that's been posted but my son can play happily for a while now so all good.

I guess it's down to the deals with games and extra bits for the same price that outweigh it. Also technically you can get a further warranty by using the consumer rights act to your advantage. After all, this warranty covers for manufacturers defect only, just like the consumer rights act. If anything the John Lewis deal just takes the hassle out of claiming a return. So it's not really a deal or extra offer as you can get it anyway.

Good deal, that's my next upgrade from Hisense H49M3000, I will probably wait until Black Friday to see if I can get a better deal. I find the 49" screen to be too big for my bedroom as I'm watching it from my bed less than 2 metres away from the TV.
You could be suffering ophthalmic HDR syndrome
Heat, paid more. Like has been said, if you don't want a massive TV then you're limited with your choices. Felt wonderful moving the 55 inch into the bedroom and having a modest TV again in the living room.

The speed of the menus and general interaction is fantastic, joy to use.

oO a lot of £ for 43" TV. Wouldn't you need the TV near you to notice the quality??

Only the extra resolution, other benefits like the higher quality screen, low reflectance coating and HDR support don't depend on viewing distance.

If you want a higher quality medium-sized TV then this is one of the few options out there, the only option if you want some genuine HDR support.

This is one of, if not the best TV's you'll get at this size though. Plus Samsungs new QLED range start from 49" and up so its not like the new range has a direct replacement.

And not all people use TV's from a far distance. I've just bought this screen and plan on mounting it above a monitor. 4K is not the key selling point of it, either... It's a 10-bit panel, quantum dot, proper HDR. I'm replacing Samsungs model from the year before as I want the (much) improved motion rate, colours, contrasts...

Sell the speaker and this would have cost around £600. Not bad as the one I bought was £520 and a refurb.

Siemens is the same stuff as bosch in case people get wet pants from this.
Price is showing as £579 so £529 with the code. Am I missing something or have they put it up?

I've got a Siemens washing machine and dishwasher, both bought at John Lewis with the five year warranty. Got the warranties out today to see how much was left to run on them and was surprised to discover that they are nine years old! Never had a problem with either, I run a hot wash with white vinegar through them both once a month(ish), then another to rinse them through.
I'm worried about replacing them as I doubt I'll get anything nearly as good.

My quandary too. Just remember that JL, as good as they can be sell own brand white goods which are AEG manufactured, and NOT reliable - and you will be stuck with the hopeless "Serviceforce" repair "network" so don't be tempted by them if you expect reliability.
I got significantly compensated from JL, but it was still a genuine nightmare with one of their own brand Heat pump tumble dryers! Needless to say the washing machine won't be one of theirs, but I am under no illusion that Siemens are anything like as good now.

our kitchen is full of Siemens appliances and I can tell you this stuff is ultra reliable, not the usual white goods that need replacing every few years
My experience has been quite the opposite. Had a Siemens washing machine with a 5 year warranty. Must have had the engineers out 5 times in the warranty period. Each time having to wait for THEIR engineer which was minimum 3 days, sometimes a week. Always problems with an F20 code. It was a really poor machine, the worst I've had. And it's all well and good having a 5 year warranty but not when you are obliged to await the official engineers. Would rather have had a cheaper machine that 'anyone' can fix to be honest.
I have had my Siemens machine for over 11 years, totally fault free, but I suppose it is going to need replacing very soon -
unfortunately I don't think ANY are reliable now, but the problem is, with all of them - you get stuck with the service agent the manufacturer provides, and that's not even as good as a fixed lottery! Worst experience I had (last year) was with a tumble drier, and that was "Serviceforce" the AEG/Electrolux?Zanussi agents who make your experience sound like paradise! TEN WEEKS and countless visits to repair it. It wold have been worse, but that was with John Lewis pressing them!
You are making SIemens sound like the best buy around, and I am nearly convinced!
OMG, that sounds like a nightmare. I have come to the conclusion that one should buy cheap, get generic repairs or replace after 3-5 years and just accept that's the way it goes. Nothing seems to be built like it was...(including people - some of the octogenarians I know are so incredibly tough and resilient!).

I would suggest that few white goods items are worth repairing out of warranty at all! With call out fees and parts they soon become uneconomical, spend say £100 on a repair to find something else pops in 2 or 3 months time and spending more money just makes no sense when a cheap machine is going to be a better buy. Whilst I don't do it, it even makes buying an ultra-cheap machine and treating it as throw-away seem a more sensible option

for some reason the same unit with the symbol of a piece of fruit on it would cause people to vote hot and sell way more.... and hence the expensive of marketing departments is justified....
Not entirely accurate really. This only has 64gb storage, and whereas a MacBook has the best operating system, this barely has an operating system at all.
I would say Windows 10 (with the caveat of what ms may or may not be capturing) is better than macbook os as the learning curve to change from windows 10 is too high.

I freaking lov my cp100a and was hotly wanting this but...
My cp100a was £199 a year ago and it's now £249.
It's next gen varient, this Chromebook, is SO much cheaper in the US it's literally cheaper to buy, ship and buy the legal tax on it.
They are really **** over UK and EU ATM (Asus I mean).
It would save you exactly £30 if you ordered from the USA and paid all the taxes as it comes £499 from Amazon you would also get a US keyboard and need to get a UK plug charger or adaptor so it's not really any cheaper!

Items: GBP 398.01
Shipping & handling: GBP 9.03
Total before tax: GBP 407.04
Estimated tax to be collected: GBP 0.00
Import Fees Deposit GBP 102.90
Order total: GBP 509.94

My ranting and annoyance was based at working it out from a week or so ago. I'm sure it was closer to £599 than £499. My point still stands though. Even with taxes and such Asus really stuck a knife in for UK over the last year.i do love my Chromebook, the battery life and durability for work is just silly.
But £249 now when it was £199 well over a year ago is very annoying.

I love my chromebook and would love one of these with the extra storage, better processor and screen plus backlit keyboard, but I am not sure if £529 is too much, would be much more tempted at a lower price.

You can ask for them in-store (they often will ask if you need some), or if you order the pods online you can request them with your order. In fact, you can request that they collect the recycling bags from your home when you place your next online order (as you'd need to have them delivered the bags with the first one). It obviously is only for their own pods though as they are working with the aluminium, etc. rather than the plastic that other brands tend to use for nespresso compatible pods.

If anything it's a better deal to buy at Amazon as their returns and customer care will last longer than the 2 years at John Lewis. A proper cold deal

Technically not a hot deal, as it's the standard price for these tablets. True they have new features, but not a hot deal.

Well for me saving a little bit of money and seeing that the TV is mint is worth it. Also, I had the chance to check if the screen had any issues (like clouding etc) and this TV didn't - which can save a lot more hassle of sending TV's back.

Not everyone can or will buy new from many retailers due to various reasons, plus thousands of people buy second hand, returns or refurbished from eBay.

I also managed to get Accidental cover added for £49 instead of £99 :)
Ex demo not really a bargain. Lots of ex demo deals at Currys also.
To me its not really worth, for it this case at least. for a saving of £120, you are getting a used item with reduced warranty possibility of nicks and scratch and shorter life span. being turn on 9-6, 7 days a week for possible 2 year(2015 model?) can really take a toll on the internal components. If this is a more expensive TV or bigger discount then another story

Prodded? I highly doubt that someone is going to prod a tv in John Lewis with anything other than the tip of their finger unless they are slightly "too into" their 4k tvs.

Minimum 20%, most up to date tech will be hard to get hold of even second hand for anywhere near to 20% discount.

Let's agree that I think it's a good deal and you think people stroke tvs in John Lewis with various parts of their anatomy

Great find. I'm on the hook for one of these after buying the (very expensive) base for an infant seat without realising that there's only one next-size-up seat that fits it. :)

i think a lot of people fell into that trap unfortunately!

Pain compounded after thieves broke into or car and stole the first one we bought. At least who ever ended up with that one is also in the trap :D

I gave up trying to fit the plastic screen protector - you need patience and clean room conditions to get that right - why can't they ship with it factory fitted ffs!

Any idea on how to change the lock screen wallpaper? Ive changed my wallpaper but the lock screen still has the ones that keep changing. Thanks

go to settings, under lock screen options select Wall shuffle off. You can add shortcuts and a lock screen message too.

Thank you so much.

Can anyone confirm if this phone from Sainsbury Mobile indeed locks to the first sim you put in the phone - as claimed by JL? I have bought the phone from Sainsbury's but not tried a sim yet, as I fear it will get locked to my current operator (I am on the verge of signing up to a new operator).
I too got mine delivered from Sainsburys today - I haven't put a SIM in it yet for the same reason, can;t make up my mind. However I did notice an unlock code can be had for under £2 on eBay. I know it's the principal of the thing, unlocked should mean unlocked, however I couldn't wait for it to return to stock on JL website!
I'll post pictures of what came in the box....

Hi could you provide the eBay link for unlocking. When I check there is only one £6 option
expired, idol 4 disappeared from their website.

Thank you! Nearly ordered this yesterday, glad I waited now!
I started with a bargain Philips Hue starter kit , then it was more bulbs , then an Echo Dot to control them and another to use upstairs. A nest for the heating too. Have looked into controlling the telly with Alexa but too expensive at the moment for a Logitech Harmony . All very addictive , it's a hot from me!

Is there a way to use one of these as an alarm clock?
You can ask Alexa to set an alarm for a specific time. Not sure if you can setup a daily alarm

john lewis logoJohn Lewis – In Business for More Than Two Centuries

John Lewis opened his first store, a drapery, on Oxford Street in 1864. In 1905, a second store, Peter Jones, opened in Sloane Square in London. Initially the two stores were separate but, in 1920, John Spendan Lewis came up with the idea of forming a chain and he founded the John Lewis Partnership. The company began opening other stores throughout London before starting its expansion across the rest of the UK in 1933.

Today John Lewis operates more than 40 John Lewis stores across the UK, with the largest store being its flagship Oxford Street store. Their stores encompass a mixture of traditional John Lewis department stores and John Lewis at home stores.
