Sorry but seems a bit pricey for only 40". It may be a brand but JVC is hardly top tier either. I got a 55" for £50 more than this (offer has since gone sadly) a couple of months ago. It's a Vestel (Digihome) but has a great picture IMHO and with UHD/4K you want all the inches you can get or you just aren't going to see any difference between full HD and UHD.

40" is fine for a monitor but definitely small for a 4K TV. As OP said fine for a bedroom set too but do you really want to blow £300 on your next bedroom TV?

Yep but like many once top brands they're now just a brand name for hire to use on any old kit.

Go into your local Currys & take a look at this set. Its lightweight. Has a flimsy plasticky build.

You might think twice before parting with your cash

You'll get a much better 1080p set for £300 than a crappy 4k one. Find some mug upgrading from a top of the range 1080 Sony set to a budget hisense one and offer a couple of hundred.

Paid £333 for my Hisense 49" 4K Smart LED TV, a much better deal than this.

40" is still plenty of size to be able to see the difference between FHD and UHD - I've used 4K laptops that are noticeably sharper. Saying "if you are in the market for a 4k TV, don't get a 40" one or less" is simply ludicrous - you will notice the higher pixel density no matter what size screen you are using.

TV gyros is this any good ? Or would I be better with just a smart led TV by one of the popular makes like Samsung,LG or Panasonic?

Is gaming/PC use any good on this? I've had a google but there doesn't seem to be any decent reviews/comments. From what i did find it sounds like PQ is good though.

I have the 4k version of this other set, I got it at £299 and although I have no idea what the framerate is like for gaming etc I cant fault it for picture and sound for normal viewing... ao.com/pro…spx

Don't Vestel make the lower entry Toshiba models too? One of the reasons I stopped buying their brand...

why wouldnt you? if you can watch things in the best quality why not?

This is a normal price for a small 4k TV. You might say that the JVC brand is worth a premium, but I am not sure that it actually is a JVC, and even if so whether it is worth a premium. That being said, the 4k Vestel sets seem to be ok, although they use cheap panels, and therefore colour and contrast is not as good a quality set.

I ordered this to collect in store last weekend, when I got there I asked to see it the sales assistant told me it was basically rubbish and the picture would lag. I'm definitely no tec expert but it was something to do with the speed being only 50 which isn't enough for a 4k tv should be min 500...I walked away with nothing unsure as to whether he was a tec geek and I would never notice this or if it would be incredibly annoying!

That sounds most like BS to me. There are very few TVs with a refresh rate faster than 100Hz on the market (although they all have some kind of fantasised "motion clarity index" in the thousands).

However, he is right in that with 4k, the problem is that higher refresh rates are a lot of work, and therefore a lot more expensive than on a Full HD set. So if you want to watch sports, it would be better to invest in a Full HD set with decent motion processing, which could easily cost more than this.

Bought this to day and I'm very happy with it . Well worth the £299

No Amazon Video app, but you can use the built in Opera browser, which works just fine.

Forget about HDR on a 8 bit panel tv like this there is no significant gain to be had you need a 10 bit panel and as you wan't it for gaming input lag is of importance below 40ms is considered good enough for gaming,right now you won't be getting a 10 bit panel 4K set for under a grand.

Please do not make the same mistake as I did... and buy this TV. My remote stopped working, the TV eventually stopped turning on, the picture quality is awful, and the customer service was awful.

Spend another £100-150 on a decent brand.

Bought this a few weeks ago to try as a PC monitor and very happy with it both as a TV and a PC monitor, (Windows 10). My GTX 750 display card recognised it straight away and set it to the native resolution of 3840 x 2160 with a text/apps size of 200% and the resolution is fantastic. Athough refresh rate is stated as 50Hz, it does seem to work at 60Hz via HDMI2 inputs, although I use it at 50Hz and its fine. Set PC cleartype text display option to 'off' for best results. Mac retina display eat your heart out... I'm not a gamer so not interested in latency/lag so don't ask. The only problem with using a TV as a monitor is that you don't have the usual on/off computer control of the monitor, but it's just a question of pressing the 'On' button on the remote control so no big deal...

Cue the "is this a 10 bit screen" "yes this is a 10 bit panel screen despite it only costing 200 quid" that you always get on "deals" under 500 quid
