EPIC FAIL!
I bet they'll come down to around £20 during Christmas sales. I think i'll hold out until then.
Make the time for them, and you will not regret it.
These are three of the best films ever for me.
I was thinking the same thing. Got my std DVD versions, would love to get these but will pick it up at £15-20 in a month or so - good price though for now.
Don't mind him. He's just trolling as usual.

Still a hot price.

Insert disc 2 to continue.
Care to show me where I can get the Battlestar Galattica BR set for anywhere near £20 in that case?
This is a 15 disc boxset, not just 3. You can't really compare it to Back to the Future.
Star Trek 1-10 Blu-ray & Heroes Complete Series Blu-ray have also both never gone down to £20 either.
What next? Waiting for the extended version, single disc BluRay in 3D with Lenticular cover but only once it hits the £10 price point?
I've ripped my discs & stripped out everything except the English track in DTS-MA
Sizes are
FOTR 55.2 GB
TTT 56.5GB
ROTK 64.4GB
No way, you would be able to fit on 1 disc without dropping the quality as well as they are all well over 50GB.

My 2 pennies......
I think people are dreaming if they think there is huge demand for 3.5 - 4.5hr versions of these films at or around launch prices (and even with discount I'd call this that).
I have yet to see the Blu-ray boxset (and I have a stack of them) that did not hit £15 - £20 at some point - even if they did tick up a little after the deal (Back to the Future being one that did).
From LoTR to Star Wars to Jurrassic Pk it's all just a question of how fast you feel you have to have it collecting dust on your shelves.
I can wait.
The idea that it'll be a long time before (any of) these drop seriously in price is just not bourne out by experience.
(or you can believe the marketing spiel if you must)

Dont forget cinema back in teh 60's used to have breaks in long films (Spartacus, Lawrence of Arabia etc) as it gave people time to go stretch their legs, and refresh before 2nd half.
In fact the DVD of Arabia kept in the interim music.........
People are just too lazy these days, it is hardly a big deal to swop a disc is it. 6 Blu Rays also means picture is best quality possible on Blu Ray format. Yes they could squeeze on one disc but would be a stretch with the uncompressed audio & commentaries.
This is an absolutely phenomenal boxset, and highly recommended to fans of LOTR, the rest I would wait for the inevitable drop later this year.
Why would you even be reading this thread ?
It obviously only applies to people who liked the films.
Ah excellent, presumably you've found it cheaper elsewhere then? Do tell.
fishing much?
If you count decapitations, amputations and stabbings as ok for children's films....:|
No one is forcing you to buy these. Get the theatrical versions if you want one disc.
People buy blu rays for the best quality possible, thus its understandable that 4 hour movies have to be split over 2 discs. The size of the Blu-Ray is irrelevant when you are talking about uncompressed video.
If you really want this but without the disc swapping, theres always torrents.
Also, those saying disc swapping should'nt be here in this day and age, just shut up, and maybe come back when you have a little bit of technical knowledge.
That maybe true, but after visiting this site regularly for over a year, I've gathered that a lot of people who comment on deals such as this lack the IQ to read.
Heck, I'm amazed some of them can figure out how the mouse pointer works to click on the deal in the first place.
Before you start insulting everyone the fact is even on 2 discs the image is compressed, Blu-ray uses 3 compressing codecs, it may be less compressed compared to DVD but it is still compressed (massively compared to raw uncompressed 1080p too).
As for the argument that they used 2 discs to compress less and give a higher image quality coupled with HD audio I am less convinced.
All 3 of the mandated Blu-ray codecs they use (VC-1. AVC & Mpeg2) have optimal ranges, so simply adding more bitrate is not necessarily to add quality.
(which is why the PS3 game console with its bit-rate meter is so laughable, talk about a little information being a dangerous thing).
My suspicion is that the discs are loaded with HD audio in several languages and it is really that (coupled with the film length) that forced a move to 2 discs.
Basically the studio being cheap(er) using 1 pressing for more markets and not actually a quality thing at all.
We'll see the truth of this when the BD rips come out very soon with English language only.
It is true that they did remaster the 1st film especially (FoTR in the TE version was clearly the weakest of the 3), how much work went into the 2nd & 3rd is debatable but undoubtedly the studio & PJ will claim hundreds of manhours for those that lap that sort of nonsense up.
The really ironic thing here is that during the old format war the Blu-ray fanboys all cited the EE versions of LoTR as one of Blu-ray's most valuable assets, cos only Blu-ray (it was claimed) could give us the EE versions of LoTR on 1 disc.
It's funny how it turned out in the end really, although the die-hard fanboy element now making a virtue out of this will be sure to refuse to see it.
It's only a few films - and yes they are pretty good.
But not exactly the 2nd coming.
Not for most grown-ups anyway.

I care about it about as much as I cared about the CAV/CLV debate 20 years ago.
For me there is only one valid question that exists, namely "Do I want this movie split over two discs ?"
The answer is a definite no, so I won't buy it.
Simples.
Before that, the question was "Do I want the theatrical versions on Blu-Ray?"
Again, the answer was "no".
When they come out with a product that I want, I'll trust to HUKD to find me the best price for it but this is now a 10 year old movie franchise. I've already seen the EE's plenty of times on DVD and even if I do end up buying the BD's, they are now something that I might watch only once or twice more.
Sorry but I'm not putting my hand in my pocket again for these films unless they are exactly what I want and the price is right. Currently, the studio is failing on both counts.
Good luck with that.. If you see £30 in 6 months you'll be lucky.
that's not extended mate.
Including the Star Wars Blu-Rays!
In saying this, considering that each film is spread across two discs and that all the extra discs are just plain DVDs, this isn't something I'll buy even at this price.
and A13 how was I rude lol? look at the times we all posted very similar, I didn't know others had posted before I did.

Considering the un-extended BR is currently £15 and its been out for ages with far fewer disks you're dreaming if you think you can get it for that price anytime soon.
Oh and you can get a potential 8% quidco on this as well although guess they may well not pay as combined with another offer but you'll at least get clubcard points so pretty sweet all round!
Think I might have order this!! Cheers OP.

And for those holding out for an £8 drop - that's the price of some magazines these days - get some perspective! ;-)
