Description
Nikka from the Barrel (51.4% ABV) is Nikka’s flagship whisky and the best-selling Japanese whisky in Europe. It is a blended whisky comprised of 60% Coffey Grain and 40% malts from Yoichi and Miyagikyo distilleries.
The whiskies are aged for an average of 10 years, blended, then married for 3-6 months in barrels and bottled straight from the barrel. This technique gives the whisky its renowned name.
Nikka was set up in 1934 by Masataka Taketsuru, the “Father of Japanese Whisky” – who travelled to Scotland in 1918-1920 to discover the secrets of whisky production. Nikka combines traditional Scottish whisky-making techniques with Japanese precision and attention to detail.
It is a deliciously, well-balanced whisky with notes of dried fruit, honey, coconut, spice, apple, smoke, and vanilla.

sorted byOnly thing is it's very high strength at 51% so would benefit from a few drops of water in it to tone down the ferocity. But it is smooth enough to drink neat if you want.
I feel slightly guilty saying this as an old Englishman with Irish roots (given how much I love Scotland and Scottish people) but this to me is how whisk(e)y should taste.
If you know of a Scottish (or Irish) brand that matches it, please let me know as I will try that..........
The Japanese founder of Nikko who introduced Whiskey into Japan studied Chemistry at the University of Glasgow and ended up marrying a Scottish woman due to his love of Scotland.
My point is that Japanese whisky industry more than paid their dues and are faithful to the original thing, in some ways its actually better because they don't over mass produce like Jameson or some Scottish Highland distilleries(Famous Grouse, pipe cleaner tasting supermarket brand spirits) hence can keep strict quality control standards high.
Damn you HUKD but thank you OP, tis a great price
