Plus it's a litre not 70cl
The litre black bush is 21.99 today so a good £8 cheaper. Like the black bush more as it's got the sherry case tang. The bush and the 10 yr d are so cheap today, get both!
Lord.vader
This is nice but the litre black bush is sublime

Regardless, this at £20 is an excellent price - thats bog standard Bushmills price.

Sorry it says single malt clear as day in the picture. Dont know how i missed that...

I agree in principle, but there are some exceptions and on the low end of the scale, Monkey Shoulder is one for me. It's an excellent blend from three great Speyside distilleries. Could drink that and enjoy it more than many entry level single malts.
NAS Whisky is so that distillers can put out younger spirit and still charger higher amounts for it. I agree there's always exceptions and Monkey Shoulder has its own following and celebrity status, quite possibly from the name itself. It's not something I'd put money in to as there's so much more on offer which thrashes the pants off it quite frankly. If I was given some for free then I wouldn't turn my nose up at it.
A friend of mine used to run the Chester Whisky Shop, which I think could be called Turmeaus now. Anyway I had a sample of loads and loads of whisky from there. If you fancy something completely different then try Rittenhouse 100 Straight Rye.

Yeah it's clear that NAS whisky is financially beneficial for distilleries and as much as I agree that whisky drinkers shouldn't tolerate it, unfortunately with almost every major distillery proportioning larger amounts of whisky into the NAS labels whilst hiking up the prices of the age statements it's hard to avoid.

I have to say I have principles and I will never purchase another bottle of Macallan for what they did to their UK customer base. They swiped off the 10 yo sherry and 12yo fine oak - sent it ALL to Asia for higher prices and replaced it with Macallan gold - a completely inferior product! Then a few years later when the asian market slowed down they re-introduced it to the UK as a special release at more than twice the price. At the same time they almost doubled the age statement.

It might be my favourite whisky, but they can shove it up their hoop.

Oh wow I live near to Chester. Have been in the whisky shop a few times. Enjoyed some fine cigars there too :D
... And yes I agree monkey shoulder is actually quite decent.

As always, if it's a non-age statement I'm not interested. Very few exceptions to this rule.

Great Scotch. Distillery well worth a visit - only 30 to 40 minutes from Glasgow.

Firstly can I say its shocking what we are now asked to pay for regular Whiskies here in the UK, this can be bought for half this price in the Canaries.

I've been drinking Bowmore for 30 years but their variations are now getting silly.

That said this is a nice drink and looks fantastic in a quality glass, the aroma is superb.

This is a good UK price for a good Bowmore nas - but if you are still reading then you probably already know this.

So ridiculous how we have to pay tax on things like alcohol and tobacco!! I mean why do we need to pay the tax?!? So we can have:
- free health care to deal with alcohol abuse
- free cancer drugs
- free liver transplants.

Who needs them! I'm with you let's get cheap booze my local does 3L of scrumpy jack for £2.50!

Gonna get me some cheap booze not pay taxes then moan when the tories try to privatise the NHS cos there's not enough money on the magic money tree.

Ps don't bother getting irate. Just trying to show how paying less taxes ain't always a good idea.
If it's worth it, it's worth paying for...

is it peaty like Laphroaig?

No, i not like a laphroaig, the peatiness isn't there. It doesn't have the feel of a caol ila either, i'm leaning towards bowmore, but i might be off the mark. further testing required :D
picked one up today. will have a sample tonight

I have just finished a bottle of this, not Laphroaig 10 class but still a very drinkable dram. For me, better than Laphroaig Select.
is it peaty like Laphroaig?
I got a bottle of the 22 year old for £44.99, lovely dram. Rumours seem to think it's probably a Bowmore.

As said it's got to be one of them, they're all excellent, I'd bet money on a Caol Ila myself as they have the most production capacity.

Will grab a bottle of this

darn played and posted £24 for this yesterday. serious heat at £22. lovely dram
IMO the one stand out flavor of this is red Apple it wasn't particularly smooth but not fire water either, its down the middle in that regards. I had some 2 nights ago so the flavor is quite fresh in my mind. take that as you will, everyone's tastes are different, I liked it and would buy again at the right price.
Pj12
Is this any good? I've read some reviews and they say its harsh, and others say its really smooth, its non peaty which I like but not wanting a harsh whisky. The smoothest I've tasted to date is the 12yr old Hibiki which is a rare or expensive find these days, so far haven't managed to find something under the £50 mark which matches the Hibiki for a smooth taste - have yet to try the Harmony. Havent tasted Aberlour 12 yet

You can't really go wrong for £22. Very sherry cask influenced. A real Xmas whisky. Ralfy recently did a spot on review on YouTube, you check it out.

It's OK but nothing 'special'. Better than Aberlour 10 by quite a bit which I find harsh.

I suppose it would depend on what your definition of harsh is but I'd recommend Glenlivet 15 as being pretty decent and often around £35. Also Aberfeldy 12, which is quite sweet.

I tasted both Cardhu and Aberlour but I love Cardhu. Aberlour too tastes great but Cardhu beats it. Well, beauty lies in the eyes of beholder. Same price at Amazon with free home delivery. Just ordered two. Cheers
From what I hear this is also £25 in Morrisons - if anyone can confirm as I can't get to one until Friday?
Its all very subjective when it comes to taste - I very much like this whisky and at £25 it's good value. Does seem to come down to this price fairly regularly. Heat added.
I would rather buy Aberlour 12yr at Asda for the same £25 as it's a much nicer whiskey, cardhu gold isn't as nice as the 12yr one in my opinion, and neither are
as nice as the Aberlour

Or it's an overpriced NAS with **** reviews.

I think you're missing the point of this site..

I wish those voting cold would tell me where I can find it cheaper, Or maybe it's more about the distillery being the wrong side of Hadrian s wall.
Not sure why people are voting cold - fantastic whiskey at a great price.

This just got delivered for me. I really like peaty whiskey, but this has an odd, almost artificial taste to it.
Would probaly finish this one, but never order again.

"Laphroaig Select takes its name from the special selection of American and European casks, chosen for their unique character that they give during maturation. "

It's, marketing blurb :-( I was wondering about the reality. I actually rather like the 10yo single malt. It is a very strong and peaty whisky. Probably an acquired taste and not for the whisky novice but on a cold winter night, by the fire, it can be the best drink in the world :-) I haven't tried the "Select" and there's a part of me that has doubts that it is just marketing for lower end stuff. Maybe I need to go search on a specialised whisky review site.

Ordered - thanks to the OP
is this the one that has a TCP taste?

Highland Park posted at £22 voted cold but this crap Laphroaig voted hot ???

It is because of the price reduction not necessarily for the taste of it.

excellent deal - thank-you!

however the other thread crucially missed the word "Whisky" and didn't trigger all those word search alerts. this does actually sell for RRP of £48 on Amazon and a price history search shows even on offer it does not dip below £37 so good deal. Shame I have gone right off sweet Speyside malts.

The standard bottle is on offer at £38 from Amazon (£44 Ocado) so this works out slightly cheaper / litre.

Too light for me and not that peaty
Will revert to Laphroig Quarter Cask and Aberlour Abundh when they come back down in price.

Think your getting calories and sugar contents mixed up my darling, theirs very little in the way of sugar in whisky to contribute towards the calories. By the way take your health warnings and preaching elsewhere, were not interested.

wrong again
Found this to be very peaty. Would not buy again.
There's calories in alcohol, doesn't matter what type.

Whisky - A lot fewer calories than beer and cider. 50 odd calories per shot is quite low, only slightly higher than vodka.

did you know how much sugar there is in booze?

Think your getting calories and sugar contents mixed up my darling. By the way take your health warnings and preaching elsewhere, were not interested. Bloody Corbyn supporters
They were right about the pizza thing though. Most people don't realise how many calories there are in spirits

yep in all alcoholic drinks - the fact that Scotch can be drunk neat / with water doesn't change that much about its high calorific content

sure it's better than mixing a full fat mixer in with (say) gin

but all distilled spirits are effectively distilled from similar bases, ie something very sugary - and remain high calorie items after distillation even if the sugar flavour has disappeared

The difference between whiskey and whisky is simple but important: whisky usually denotes Scotch whisky and Scotch-inspired liquors, and whiskey denotes the Irish and American liquors.

The word itself (both spellings) is of Celtic origin, and modern whisky/whiskey distillation practices originated in Ireland and Scotland. Using whiskey to refer to Scotch whisky can get you in trouble in Scotland.

Sarcasm is an English characteristic.

I misspelt "whisky". Wonderful. Who cares? Get over it. Enjoy the whisky and chill out.

I know which is which and I misspell all the time or my auto correct does it for me. it's so not a big deal unless people make it one for themselves

For anyone who missed it, or wants to stock up, this Lightning Deal is coming up again today at 5pm for Prime users, 5:30pm for non-Prime.
Amazon seem to be repeating Lightning Deals quite often. This will be at least the fourth time round in the last month for the A'Bunadh and I've also seen the Highland Park 12 w/ Two Glasses deal come up several times as well.

Thanks a lot - i check lightning deals regularly but this wasn't on the list earlier. ordered!
Still got half a bottle in the cupboard, so might hold off until around Father's Day when Amazon have loads of single malt deals on (I got the A'Bunadh for £34.50 before)
Back at 39pounds. Just got one.
Seems you're right.
Checking prices once a day isn't enough if the recent deals only last a few hours.
Busy enjoying a small glass now.
Seems sweeter and not "quite" as strong as the last bottle I had in January at only 60.7%

my 2 bottles were canceled
Trying to appease us perhaps with a Lightning Deal on the replacement NAS version right now: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Glenlivet-Oloroso-Barrel-Scotch-Whisky/dp/B00O0SD1UE/
Mine was too.
Amazon cancelled my order...
Ordered one on the off chance, but my hopes are growing dimmer. As Amazon have now stopped offering it at all, I suspect the order will eventually be cancelled.
