Interesting, I posted it as store-specific. Seems strange to expire it when it could still benefit someone.

Bottle is 70cl. It said 24 on the shelf label but I didn't believe it so asked them to scan it at the checkout. I was expecting an argument about the labelling but it went straight through at 24.

It's not really NAS. The last bottle I bough was distilled in 2003 and bottled in 2014, so 10-11 years really.

Not a deal as this is normal price albeit a good one like the 22 year lidl malt whisky that's permanently £30.

I'm afraid you are wrong. It's normal price is around £75 - £80. Yes Amazon have had it this price for a while - but not any more. Let me know if you can find this anywhere in the UK for £45 now.
Ordered, thanks OP. I've had good experiences with other non-distillery specific malts like Finlaggan & Ileach so fingers crossed

Hope it's Caol Isla; was lucky enough in October (before the £ crash) to get a 1L of the 12 year old at Schiphol/Amsterdam airport for roughly £25 flying to the UK - was a lovely drop. This seems similarly great value, heat!

Bought this last time it was on offer. I was disappointed, much better whiskey out there for this price imho.
I guess it all depends on what you want in a whisky. I also love Aberlour 12 (more of a sherry influence), but not such a fan of the Glenmorangie 10 (too much if a bourbon taste in it for me). The likes of Lagavulin, whilst loved by many don't do it for me at all because of the peat. With whisky it really can be trial and error for most people until you come across something you really like.
I have a (un?)healthy selection of most of the Scottish regions as well as Japanese, I find it's down to mood as much as taste. Sometimes i really want a big antiseptic, peaty hit, whereas others it could be sweet, or salty or floral etc. In other words... why stick to just one type? ;)

Very true.

By the way, its not in stock at the moment, and at the price quoted, I'm not sure it ever will be, but Amazon have a Port Askaig 16 year old single malt for £44.99. Normally this is around £80. Its been bottled for the owners of the Whisky Exchange ("Speciality Drinks Ltd"), but chances are its a Caol Ila.

You can order this from the Green Welly Stop online. I always pay about £16 for the 12year old malt.
That's for a half bottle though isn't it? If not then that'd be even more of an amazing price than this is!

Sorry abumonkey. You're quite right. That would be the 35cl. They do a good deal on the liqueur version (Stroma) 50cl at £16.99 though. Lovely stuff.

Best Buy Glenfiddich showed why it’s the world’s bestselling single malt Scotch whisky, topping our single malt category and the whisky taste test overall. Our experts called it ‘outstanding’, ‘cracking’ and ‘elegant’ and praised the ‘long, smooth finish’. Another said it had a ‘mellow, creamy sweetness’ and vanilla flavours, but with a bit of spice as well. It was the highest-rated whisky both with and without water.

I am with the original poster. The 12yo is a lovely drop of scotch. The Founders Reserve is a poor replacement and the half a bottle I've not drunk can sit there waiting for an unwelcome visitor. I'd love to be elitist about scotch but my budget won't stretch that far.

thanks for sharing James Smith. I'll be on that when I'm back in the NW at the end of the week
Masterofmalt ratings, Founders Reserve - 2/5 from 148 ratings, Glenlivet 12 - 4/5 from 203 ratings.
rossss
You keep calling it a blend, its a malt, not a blend lol, not only that but it's replacing the 12 which is roughly on par with it, hence it being a similar price at the entry level of malts, your misguided elitism is quite amusing, get off the bandwagon and see them both for what they truly are, lowish priced malts that are fine for a tipple, neither one is distinctly better than the other, both are quite enjoyable, neither are a blend.

Wrong. In fact the majority of single malts are blends. NAS assures you of the youngest whisky used, so the contents of Glenlivit 12 are aged for 12 years minimum. As we all know, whisky improves with age. That's why NAS is an indicator of quality, which is sorely lacking from founders reserve, which is bulked out with an unknown quantity of whisky that isn't matured.

I can only echo what Matty said regarding The Glenlivit.. OK the 12 isn't the worlds most amazing whisky, but it's popular - the world No.2 biggest seller - and for many people their first foray into single malts. So it's very strange for someone to defend the discontinuation (in the UK) of one of the most popular, recognisable products, for an inferior substitute.

If you don't find this argument compelling enough, consider that the producers of The Glenlivit, Chivas Brothers, put out a the following statement which you can read in full at the link beneath.

A NAS whisky is NOT on par with a 10/12 year old whisky. The founders reserve has been slated in reviews and is nowhere near as good as the Glenlivet 12. The fact that it's a similar price is more about buyers being ripped off rather than it being of a similar value. There's a good reason why founders reserve is nearly always reduced.

Theres a good reason the 12 was almost always reduced when it was more widely available too; and as i said, hop off the bandwagon for a second and see them both for what they are, entry level malts, and they both fill that role nicely, to say the 12 is distinctly better is completely subjective and down to personal taste. If the founders reserve was distinctly poorer, then its competition would be cheap blended whiskies like grouse, that isnt the case though, its a cheap malt that does the job just like the 12.

Horrible whiskey, very much an acquired taste, but heat added for the price.

Whisky, no 'e'.

It's not about being pedantic it's basic spelling. This is a post about whisky not whiskey. It's scotch so it's really not asking much to label it correctly.

YES! Glenmorangie and Woodford, time to stock up again. Also as a note I noticed this sale at my local tesco so bought some Talisker Skye. I enjoy whisky so figured I'd give it a shot. Stay away if you don't enjoy peat!! It was like drinking that crust you scrape from the bottom of the bbq at the end of the season.
It's not that very long ago when many of the popular malts were hovering around the £20 mark in the supermarkets, yet they have all now managed to raise the prices so much that £25 is now considered a good deal, and all this when we have had quite a few years of almost zero inflation (allegedly).

Another non age statement whisky. People need to stop buying these or this worrying trend will become the norm....
Wow! 1st comment after opening account... what can you buy for £15 ?

NAS whiskies aren't a problem really - some distilleries don't want you to focus on the age, but rather the quality. For example Laphroaig Quarter Cask doesn't need an age statement as the cask is tiny compared to the butts or hogshead casks, resulting in more wood exposure on the liquid, making it mature quicker. The focus is on the quality, not the age.

The problem is that the makers are putting out vast numbers of NAS, and pulling the 10 year olds from the shelves, but not changing the price. There are less and less decent affordable 10-15 year olds, and they are trying to sell us these 'special selection reserve distillers edition etc' that are generally too young and unrefined to cash in. The biggest issue I have is that you don't know the age. Why not? Just be honest and let me make my choice? Please look into the Compass Box Whisky campaign for transparency in the industry. All we want is to know what's in the bottle! :)

That's perfectly reasonable and some are shocking - for example the Fettercairn Fasque. It's made to look massively sherry influenced and quite old by its rich colour, yet it's stuffed with caramel (the colouring) to make it look darker and more appealing. Talking to a whisky connoisseur I have been informed that Whyte & Mackay are known for these nasty tricks. So my point is people should be careful but NAS isn't the problem, shifty companies is.

Another non age statement whisky. People need to stop buying these or this worrying trend will become the norm....
Wow! 1st comment after opening account... what can you buy for £15 ?

Hi, yes, my first comment indeed. There are better blends out there for this price, this is not a great single. Whisky is obviously a very personal thing though, so I hope you enjoy it. :)

The Glenlivet Single Malt Whisky 12 Years Old 35cl (half bottle) £10.00 @ Booths

Another dependable classic single malt sadly being out-populated by a founder's reserve-blended whisky. Probably accounts for it's very low price, as they clear these out for the lesser quality stuff.…

Hi yes I did search. That was weeks ago though. Actually I remembered your submission, went to my local branch of Booths off the back of it at the time but they were out of stock. I guess they've had another batch in from the main warehouse since? Anyway, there were a fair few left at Booths Knutsford yesterday, but I don't think they will last long. I'm having a tipple now, it's very nice I would also buy a few bottles if I could afford it!
Very nice single malt. My first. I was introduced to the world of aged single malt. Many of my friends who tried this later were totally impressed with this. It is being discontinued with NAS which far inferior. But this while you can. Stock it.
Turns out this most popular whisky is being discontinued in the UK, for the no-age-statement blend.

A real shame... Get it while you can.

I bought 8 bottles the other day. This is a scorcher.

This tasted chemically and harsh when I had it, something I've found with a lot of the new NAS whiskies. It's a shame that 10/12 year whiskies are now making way for poor replacements.
I wouldn't pay any attention to Amazon reviews, Glenlivet founders reserve got 4.4/5, masterofmalt is a better more honest barometer, founders reserve got 2/5 which is far more accurate for another poor NAS whisky.
I have not tried this NAS version of Cardhu. But 12 year is superb. I had many from Costco. Great single malt.

10 year old?
I can buy NEW whisky for half that !oO
This is a very ordinary whisky. If you want to try something that actually has some flavour, Tesco are selling Highland Park 12 yr old for £23.00. Now that is a deal. Glenmorangie is only ever £33.00 temporarily so it can be reduced to £25 on a regular basis to make it appear a bargain.
Auchentoshan American oak single malt £20 at Asda,£31 Tesco.
Confirmed available at Tesco, Upper Boat, Pontypridd too (Thanks Mum!). Never tried this, so looking forward to the weekend.....

A lovely whisky, well worth having in the collection. Only wimps add water ;)
A cracking sherry monster of a whisky, with a lovely velvet mouth feel! Also cask strength (around 60% abv depending on batch). So you are really getting over a litre of whisky (at drinking strength), for the money.

Have some heat!
This really depends on the batch number as to whether it's a good deal or not as some are better than others
I used to buy the odd bottle of this direct from a wholesaler for £33 10 years ago, so this seems like a good price to me.
Yes, it's cheap than £41/42 mark but should come further down then it's a deal....

6 bottles (well, 4 after I bought 2) of Glenlivet 12 at Asda Burton on Trent today. At £20 it's cheaper than the far inferior Founders Reserve, and is no longer being made. Absolute steal.
Not happening at Asda Pontprennau Cardiff :(
Bit of a wild goose chase... also not happening at:

Doncaster (Lakeside) Asda
Rotherham (Aldwarke) Asda
Barnsley Asda Superstore
Pixelfill

Talisker Storm £21 reduced to clear in my Tesco Local (Preston, Blackpool Road - Savick/Larches)

That's a bargain!
Not happening at Asda Lincoln (Hykeham) either...

Got one in Asda about 2 weeks ago on sale at £20, pointless now I know, but just thought I would share it. :p
The 12 year for 20 quid? I've only ever seen the 10 year in Asda for that price. Just wanted to confirm so I know to keep my eye out more in future :)

To be honest, I'm not sure, I gave it as a present, it may well have been 10 year.
Oh and I've re-stocked as this is far to easy to drink hic (_;)

Strange.....but nowadays you get heat if single malts are in the region of £18 !!! Hence brrrrrrrr

I thought the whole point of this site was to point out good deal - which this is. This went to +30 then people started voting cold but not one single comment. I think there's too many on here now just trying to sabotage the site.

Had a quick look in Asda Trafford & the Laphroaig Quarter is £25 there - so it's store specific which is a shame. However picked up The Ardmore for £20 @ Asda and a Laphroaig 10 yr for £21.58 @ costco (my whisky stocks were dwindling) so still happy :{

Yeah i seen the ardmore @ 20 as well, but when i picked it up another shopper advised me against it stating they tried it and found it 'harsh' and 'chemically' tasting, i understand its all subjective to what you like and would appreciate your thoughts on how you find it, as i haven't personally tried it. In the end i just stuck with the quarter cask @ 25 as that is what i went for in the first place.

I visited many asda stores around Manchester and this deal has been received well. All the stores are now empty including some which had this drink at £25. Initially cold voters tried to subdue this deal and hide this fantastic offer. I am grateful all who voted for this deal. Thanks.
Asda is radically reorganising it's various products and there fore you will find some fantastic deals.
Thanks for the update - I was going to drop in to the Trafford asda today for a bottle, but it sounds like I've missed the boat :(
was 4 left after I bought 1 on Thursday, the 10yo was also on offer albeit not as good at just under £27 but plenty available. can't guarantee any will be left now but just thought I'd post the info in case you fancied edging your bets good luck :)

There were a few good deals in my local Asda last night. I got some Glengoyne whiskey (in a box type thing) at £15 a bottle. Shelf price said £32. Not a whiskey drinker but I am a bargain hunter :p

How did you know it'd scan at £15 was it just a case of taking it to the till and taking a gamble?
Would work out at £17.50 for a 70cl bottle, so definitely hot - not sure why it was cold there for a moment.
