Have you read the reviews in the OP?
Yes the TechRadar one, but that said nothing bad about the speed, hence was going to go with Nord.

14 eyes thing is a bit of a red herring. Your VPN provider wont have any useful data to hand over no matter where they are. They can confirm active sessions, perhaps a session start and/or end time, but these should not be a major problem for you.
The TF article explains it a bit better than I can in a few paragraphs:https://torrentfreak.com/vpn-anonymous-review-160220/
Probably the key part of the TF article is this:
4. If a valid DMCA complaint is received while the offending connection is still active, we stop the session and notify the active user of that session, otherwise we are unable to act on any complaint as we have no way of tracking down the user. It is important to note that we ALMOST NEVER receive a VALID DMCA complaint while a user is still in an active session.
5. This has never happened in the history of our company. Our customer’s privacy is of top most importance to us. We are required to comply with all valid court orders. We would proceed with the court order with complete transparency, but we have no data to provide any court in any jurisdiction. We would not rule out relocating our businesses to a new jurisdiction if required.
Your session being stopped is about as much as can happen to you. Unless you are live streaming big sports events you will probably have no problems with session stopping.

Thanks for the info, it seems choosing a VPN is quite the minefield, at least my insertion comment stands ;)

IPVanish, Nord VPN or PIA to replace my Cyberghost?
Cyberghost was slow and could only use one device at a time.
PIA and IPVanish both based in USA so logging wise thats not good, was going to go with Nord, but put off with these reviews...

This seems like a decent deal. There are servers specifically for P2P, torrent, and streaming use. I'm considering giving them a go because of the snoopers charter and virgin deciding what websites…

I'm considering giving them a go because of the snoopers charter and virgin deciding what websites I'm not allowed on but not sure how well regarded these are.
If this is all you want then opera's rubbish vpn mode is all you need. Costs zero.
some of the sites I visit have torrents and I'd want privacy when using those to obtain content too - not just browsing
lol...
"I'm considering giving them a go because of the snoopers charter and virgin deciding what websites I'm not allowed on"... You said this. This is a quote from you. You never said '...and torrenting too'.
@people who can read: if all you want to do is avoid the snoopers charter, both website blocking and website logging, then dont waste money on a vpn.
Admittedly I didn't reference it directly as my personally intended use but I did mention "There are servers specifically for P2P, torrent, and streaming use."

Sorry for killing the world...

This is bad advice. Don't listen to this. A VPN client such as PIA or the one suggested in the post provides a proxy for all incoming connections from the network.

Maybe the man just wants to watch his dodgy porn without Theresa May watching over his shoulder. Though I agree that browser based proxies/VPNs are less than ideal, especially with how cheap a proper service can be had for.

Also worth looking on StackSocial for deals on VPNs, I got 3 years of VPN unlimited for 20$ around 18 months ago.

why is this better than free hotspot shield?

hotspot shield free is p2p so they use your connection and ip when other users connect.

stacksocial has 3 years of vpn unlimited for $19 or lifetime for $39. Working well enough for me so far but haven't tried streaming abroad yet....
Just grabbed this at £25.61, you have to go to the main page and click the popup at the bottom left of the screen before it disappears.
Cyberghost subscription was about to end.

Did a bit of reading and gone for this! Managed to get in on the BETA testing for the Anroid App. Looks promising!
I'm using Kodi and 1channel (primewire) is blocked, would it be better to use a VPN or SmartDNS in this circumstance?

I also use torrents if that's any help with the answer?
davidg_croydon
If you only want to watch different TV channels, then you only need a SmartDNS service. A VPN will slow your download, a SmartDNS service shouldn't. Many VPN suppliers offer it as an add-on or you can buy it on it's own and it should improve performance.

Even better to use SmartDNS servers run by VPN provider (e.g. PureVPN, PIA, Hidemyass), but only if your main purpose is privacy/anonymity.

If you don't think this is the case, than move on to DNS provider of your choice.
