Optoma HD67 720p DLP - £399.94 @ Richer Sounds (instore only)

I know nothing about 3d projectors but this seems a good price and the OP went through a lot of trouble finding stock. Definately deserves heat for the effort.

I also live close to a store - about 15 minutes away and in my experience, that telephone call means nothing.

On more than one occasion have I confirmed stock and condition of a certain item only to find that it is not in the condition that has been stated or has 'just been sold'.

Such a shame in my opinion as I have previously purchased several thousand pounds worth of equipment from RS and I must say their customer service was once the best I had ever experienced however, I believe those days are long gone.

I was sorry to read the comments on this thread with regards to stock availability on this clearance product.

Of course, the last thing we would want is to mislead our customers with regards to availability and I therefore offer my apologies to any customer who has had problems obtaining this particular clearance deal.

The Optima HD67 is a now an end-of-line clearance model, which has been reduced to clear, and by its very nature is in short supply. We do try to make this as clear as possible on our website by stating “stocks limited / not available in all stores. Some may be ex-display or ex-repair”; along with a list of which stores are have stock. It is also worth noting that at these prices stock does quickly sell out so I’d recommend being quick!

Anyone know what bulbs does it use and what price they are available for?

I phoned them about one of these before Xmas because the Newcastle store had two in stock, one was ex-demo and the other had been opened and may have had parts missing. They were £499 before Xmas, but in the end I got one from Currys for £450 inc quidco.

Good projector btw ... very quiet.

Not another clearance bargain from RS that you can't actually get hold off without travelling miles for one then finding out it's an ex-display/refurbished item.

I have optoma hd65- briliant product- picture like plasma! 3years warranty!. Use it with x-box360 and 720p is enough. Yes hd67 is 3d ready (becouse of 120hz). Bulbs should working up to 3000 hours in eco mode- and cost bit over £100. for £400 that's a bargain- hot for me!

Richer Sounds are a waste of time, they never have the clearance items that they are supposed to, always some excuse about things missing etc. Don't bother.

I bought a Sony Blu ray player off my local RS, installed it, and as I was putting the box away noticed the dayglo label on it reading 'Keep till Friday 3rd for Jane Smith'. Oops. Sorry Jane.

Good price for a 720p projector - don't let anyone tell you that 720p "isn't good enough", mine looks bloody brilliant with a 92" screen viewed from ~12 feet away. As for bulbs and whatnot my Sanyo setup is 5 years old now and still on the first bulb.

Almost certainly ex display. You would be completely mad to buy an ex display projector good chance the optics and bulb will be fried.

I was just thinking about projectors. Can the AV experts advise how much it costs for a half decent projector and screen - for use with watching films (blu ray rips) and playing my PS3 through.

My 42 inch TV is just not big enough........

I purchased the HD65 when the deals appeared on HUKD, I used it intensely for 2 years the bulb eventually exploded after 5000hrs use. The model is end of line, the bulb replacement is around the £100 mark and above.

720p resolution is impressive, 1080p will make a difference if you are quite close to the screen. If you can afford it get the HD20

For anyone that is not sure, this is 3D ready out of the box. You can use your PC for 3D content along with something like nVidia's 3D Vision. The only time you need the 3D-XL adaptor (When its out next month) is for Sky, the PS3, a standalone 3D Blu-Ray player. That adapter will cost in the region of £250 but you get a pair of glasses in with that.

Panny all the way for projectors for me. I have had them for 10 years, current one 4 years in just put in first new bulb its 720p still looks awesome though for tv and gamming. The old bulb was still working when I took it out after over 7000 hours use it was quite dark in the end.

I have a HD65 projected on a 120" screen and it looks SUPERB! had it about 2 years

I loooooove my Optoma Highly Recommended!

720 is good enought, i have the HD20 which is 1080p, but would be well happ if i only had the 720p. Its also compatable with the optoma XL which allows you to connect this to your PS3 or blu ray player to watch 3d movies. Although this adapter is £269. How ever even not in 3d this projector is amazing. its cheaper now as the new HD67n model is out which has support for nvidia gaming cards inbuilt, (hence the reduction). my advice is buy it. Similar model with same 3D capabilities can be found on scan.co.uk. for same price. (well £408)

It is true ! But you have added more to the original comment of "a screen isnt required if you have a smooth wall" by saying you painted yours with a 2 tone paint. Obviously been looking at goo or the huge avforums thread on how to mix. You are not just using a plain jane white flat wall. Which would destroy blacks and contrast, and wash out the colours.

wrong, a screen is not essential atall. looks amazing on a wall as long as you paint it correctly. mine in my cellar looks great, skin tones are top. if you think a screen is essential you must be stupid enough to believe what the shop assistants tell you. and to your comment above i never said you didnt need to paint it, i said a wall was great , of corse you need to paint it, and plain paint isnt the best. dur

You didnt say a wall was great, you said "Screen isnt require if you have a smooth wall".

Now your banging on about painting it correctly, which again is more than you originally said, plus you will still never get an match for a proper screen, screens also have special reflective properties that no paint will ever give you.

You might get good results by creating your own. But a DIY screen is laughable on a wall, people that know what they are doing will use proper backing, proper black surround, it will be fixed properly, and there is an art to mixing the correct measures of the paint required. All of that costs money, and if you do it correctly its not that far off a decent screen price. But I suppose you have done all that too and forgot to mention that ? lol.
