Jamaica is a beautiful country..Japanese love it and there are many asians who live out there. .so if you never been..go..you have the time of your life ..and it is not a racist place....jamaican saying..out of many people we are one..
My wife's gone to the West Indies.

Jamaica..?

No, she went of her own accord! :p

*Grabs coat*
eiloonat
dangerous place to go for asians

Asians as in Chinese, or Indians? I'll have you know that Jamaica has the biggest Chinese and Indian community out if all Carribean countries... They also own quite a few businesses.

Jamaica is only risky if your black, plain and simple truth. Barbados on the other hand, youre alot more likely to get stopped and ask to hand over your wallet no matter what country youre from.
Shayno
In other words a one way trip. You won't last 14 days lol. Crime over there is unreal.

I respect your comment because just like you, i choose not to so to certain south american countries like Mexivo, because of how they're protrayed on tv.

However I assure you from going Jamaica myself and friends and family who have been, youve got nothing to worry about.
The only place I wouldnt go is Kingston.
Lolz at people saying you wont last one day etc...

The best thing about being british is Jamaican people wont mess with you, 99% of the time. The tourist industry is Jamaicas biggest income.
Also the Jamaican police dont take kindly to tourist being harrased, especially white tourist.

. . . or a Riu!
I took my wife and daughter to a Riu hotel in Cape Verde in 2013 and enjoyed every minute.
If they replicate that experience elsewhere (and I hear that they do) then I would fully expect to be as happy there too.
Don't worry if you discover that the meals are a 'help yourself' buffet style. We had that and soon realised that we could eat more of what we actually like and simply forget the rest. This was the best holiday that my vegetarian wife can remember and she positively looked forward to meal times.
We are currently looking at Mexico and all agree it must be a Rui.
Lakeside
I'm fairly sure they don't. We brought one but to be honest it was easy enough to just nip down and get a couple of coffees and bring them back up.
Ok cheers mate

It was very strict on that one thing DADSCAB - I brought nice tailored shorts thinking they would be ok but no, and I didn't see a single pair of shorts at dinner for the entire holiday. Doesn't have to be smart trousers either - jeans were acceptable (which is good as that was all I had brought with me).
Just one more thing Lake, do they have kettles in the rooms? Just wondering if I need to take our travel or not.

I need to go there
I have been to Egypt 6 times and had a bad stomach on two occasions (severe stomach cramps followed by what felt like boiling water vacating my body). A visit to the pharmacy for the yellow and white box of tablets that cost about £1.50 and I felt better in about 30 minutes.

I also don't blame the hotels or the country for getting ill, it only takes another holidaymaker to not wash their hands after using the toilet to then use a serving spoon in the restaurant and those germs will get passed on to another hundred guests in no time.
Currently In Egypt on 5* All inclusive holiday but got gastroenteritis on the 2nd day! Spent 1 night in hospital and got to return each day for iv drips! It's in all the papers that ecoli is going around, and the place is full of Russians who are so rude! I know this is a generalisation as I have some good friends that are Russians, but the people here are like animals.
Not sure why it won't link, it's from Birmingham airport, 28th November, 09.00 to Egypt for 2weeks. Search for lowest price. Jungle aqua hotel.

2 weeks is very long time to stay on a pissant little mafia island like Koh Tao.The island is dead now and long may it stay that way.

I stayed in a hostel called Spicy Tao which is only a few minutes walk from Sairee Beach..

2 weeks is a long time to spend in one place but I was diving most days..

There were loads of tourists there despite the recent trouble they've had..
Bargain! Paid £600 return for our flights and these are indirect ones at that albeit with Etihad
Narcotix
dundee48
The Southern Thai islands are off my list of places to visit after the horrific murder of 2 Brits on Koh Tao and subsequent scapegoating of 2 Burmese men for the killings.
If you get into any sort of trouble down there you are on your own because the Thai police are notorious for looking after their own.

I just came back from a two week break in Koh Tao and it's very safe there for tourists..

Probably fine
Just take lots of DEET
and use it in the day too
the mosquitoes that spread the disease don't just bite at night

Not sure I'd take a free holiday to Jamaica just now though
http://www.pri.org/stories/2014-10-21/jamaica-declares-state-emergency-try-stop-spread-painful-chikungunya-virus
Chikungunya is an infection in humans caused by the chikungunya virus.

The chikungunya virus is present in Africa, southeast Asia, the Indian subcontinent and Indian Ocean islands, where a number of outbreaks have occurred.

Chikungunya virus is a notifiable condition

How chikungunya is spread

Humans and other primates are the natural hosts for the chikungunya virus. The virus is spread to humans by the bite of an infected female Aedes species mosquito – Aedes aegypti or Aedes albopictus. These are the same tropical and sub-tropical mosquitoes that carry the dengue virus. They breed in or near human habitations and prefer to feed on humans during the daytime in shady areas, but may also bite early in the night.

In Australia, Aedes aegypti currently is found in north Queensland while Aedes albopictus is found in a few locations in the Torres Strait. Infections reported in Australia are from people who have travelled overseas to regions where the chikungunya virus is present.

To date chikungunya virus infection has not been transmitted by mosquitoes in Australia. However, since the mosquitoes capable of transmitting the infection are found in northern Australia there is the potential for this to occur.

Signs and symptoms

Chikungunya infection is characterised by sudden onset of:

high fever
severe joint pain mainly in the arms and legs
headache
muscle pain
back pain
rash (about 50% of affected people).
Most people start to feel better after 7 to 10 days although some people will develop longer term joint pain.

Diagnosis

The diagnosis is based on signs and symptoms and confirmed with a blood test.

Incubation period

(time between becoming infected and developing symptoms)

Typically 3 to 7days with a range of 1 to 12 days.

Infectious period

(time during which an infected person can infect others)

Chikungunya cannot be spread directly from person to person.

Treatment

There is no specific treatment for chikungunya infection. The use of pain medication and rest can provide relief for some of the symptoms.

Prevention

Exclusion from childcare, preschool, school or work is not necessary but infected people should avoid being bitten by mosquitoes while they are unwell.
There is no vaccine to prevent infection.
Personal protection and the environmental management of mosquitoes are important in preventing illness. See Fight the Bite for tips how to protect yourself and your family from mosquito bourne diseases.
Stayed here on honeymoon 2009. Fantastic price we paid 3000 for 2 weeks.

Salou is ok, make sure though you get the train to Barcelona it is cheap...

Also don't be tempted if Barcelona are playing a home match to pay the inflated prices you see, go direct
I stopped here in May. Definitely a bargain. Basic hotel but clean and near enough to shops and restaurants.
Mine break up 25 you can go in time so they miss no school but you will add at least another £1000 onto that.

I've got 2 heads, do I have to pay twice?
two heads are better than one, more than one, pay more
I have also been twice to camping le siesta which is a great family resort, we went in May, many years ago & Tony is correct the pool is heart attack freezing, they told us it was heated & it is but by the rays of the sun. I have fond memory's of the place, they used to sell fresh barbecued chicken marinated with various spices on spits within the campsite & it smelt and tasted fantastic. To go to the beach is not for anyone with any heart or breathing problems as it has quite a steep incline. You can walk to a place called LlaFranc which has a man made beach, bit of a walk but well worth the effort. If you have transport you can go go karting and on professional circuits if your good enough. Enjoy

We've just returned, Cap Salou is very small and quiet, we went to Salou most nights. We stayed in same hotel, the pool lets this place down as it's freezing and I mean freezing. The hotel should be on the pool and the pool on the hotel as the hotel blocks the sun until around 1. Buy a bus card for 15 euros with 10 journeys on it. It cost 12 euros to top up for an additional 10 buys

Thanks Tony,

Any other trips? The bus card for 15 euros can that be used for everyone in a group or just an individual? Also did you visit porta ventura and is it easy to get too?

Looking forward to the trip it's our first holiday abroad as a family so really hoping it'll be a good trip. One other thing did you do anything with Barcalona FC? My son is dying to go to the match but the tickets seem pricey online from 40 euros but unsure if they'll be cheaper there?

Did the pool warm up in the afternoon?

Thanks very much

the bus card can be used by any one so if there where 3 people in your group 3 to Salou and 3 back equals 6. Leaving 4 journeys on your card. The pool does warm up, but is still noticeably colder than any pool I've been in. Just down the hill into cap Salou is a little beach cove, it's lovely, a little crowded but the sea was really warm. The beds are 5 euros each, there is a shelter it's like a stretched marquee don't lie under it as you will be charged 6 euros, just pull the beds out. The cafe is nice although the guy who runs it is miserable. We ate at smugglers inn, the knights inn,
and the paddock, each was nice as the other but the paddock was a lot cheaper. In Salou we ate at Lasal 5 times it was lovely, DO NOT EAT at cafe del mar it's more like a club than restaurant. The service was disgusting, the meals came out 5 minutes after the other! They are both on the beach front. The bus takes 6 to 7 mins to Salou and you cannot use the card after 11. You can get a taxi in the square for around 10 euros. Enjoy

Stayed here in July for 2 weeks with my 7 & 4 year olds, they absolutely loved it would definitely say hotel is best for under 10 year olds, entertainment team fantastic, as previous not all bars may be open and weather may not be the best but for the price it's a bargain, already looking to book for next year.
Hang Fire, this deal has always appeared at this ( or near as damn it ) price about this time each year for the last 4 years as does another Thomson bargain in Majorca ( 4* Bonaire hotel in cala bona) but that one is an april may deal but is the same price range - perfect for the ankle biters and families alike
Great price but was quite chilly when we went in October and quite a few bars and restaurants were closed. I love Menorca and have been many times but it's not really an autumn resort, and pretty much closed over winter.
