mrs looking for a new iron, any suggestions on steam iron? it must be stainless steel and not ceramic as she doesn't like them.
MonkeysUncle

(cheeky) the point of ceramic is so that it doesn't stick. Must be some seriously wrong heat settings for stuff to stick. (lol)

Mark_Hickman

My mrs went through 3 £50 irons in a year with her highest is best mindset, I got here this below and its still going after 2 years and works great.

leitchyleck

she agrees with all your comment but still doesn't want one XD

leitchyleck

she thinks their a nightmare, once something sticks (easily happens) it cannot be cleaned? so she says!

Mark_Hickman

Shes probably putting the setting too high for everything like my mrs and turning it black then it starts sticking to everything. Then my mrs blames the iron and doesn't like the fact i know more about ironing (lol) Ceramic is much better if you put the setting dial to the type of material you're ironing

steam generator iron
Please help! Which is the best steam generator iron which is powerful to do a lot of ironing? Also it must be reasonably priced? Are tefal best?
azmahhafsa

Thanks for your help. I've ordered tefal pro

Publix

My first Tefal (£180) lasted 5 years. After 3 years it was totally dead due to severe scaling, despite the anti-calc system. I took it apart and descaled it with much kettle descaler. Against manufacturer's advice. Took me 36 hours. Heating it up; unplugging it. Pouring in the descaler. Steaming it all out over the Kitchen sink. That first Tefal then lasted another 2 years. I then bought a cheap Groupon offer steam generator (I forget the make), which lasted only a year and a bit, again because of my very hard water. Then hallelujah! Someone on HUKD advised using de-ionised water. One the best bits of advice in my life. I have since used de-ionised water exclusively and there is no sign of scale. I buy de-ionised water (5L containers) from EuroCarParts where it's frequently on sale. My current model since August 2016 is: Tefal GV6340 Light and Compact Steam generator Iron, 2200W - Purple Luckily on sale then for £69. C&C at Tesco Direct. Cheapest now from Tesco Direct is £84.99. What I have learnt to live without on this light weight model: 1: No Carry Handle. 2: No cable tidy. But it is ample ironing capacity for 2 adults. Mostly because ironing is so quick. I would recommend it. When on holiday using a hotel iron - reminds me what a wonderful gizmo the Tefal is. Any way - good luck with whatever you decide to buy.

i had the bosch but that was dreadfully made I went for the tefal pro I still use it today hope that helps you decide

I did a lot of research and bought the Tefal pro express total. Great results tho sometimes spits some water on the clothes especially when using the front steam crease remover. Much faster and easier than a normal steam iron

bosch steam iron keeps tripping electric the plug is fine its the iron plz can u help

I am assuming the hole in base is the hole usually covered by a bolt which you unscrew in some models to help get calc out. In my model there was just white felt and it seemed pretty redundant. So..Have you done up the bolt correctly? Can't think what else can be. I replaced mine after hours of faffing around. Think it was a particular ly bad model. Gone for non pressurised hotpoint which does the job and cost half the price. Good luck.

Have done the descaling, and turned unit back on. It has heated water but am unable to get any steam although the green steam light is on.Instead there is water pouring out of a small hole in the base. Please advise.

Hi Celandine, Bosch help line is on their UK website. All they will say is if under guarantee, they will pay for you to post it to Milton Keynes workshop, if not- you have to pay all the expenses. May be worth it. Can you hear the pump working-chugging like a steam train? Apparently that's a common failing. Am afraid I chucked mine (after 4 years infrequent use) and am back to my ancient, reliable, undemanding iron.

I have same no steam problem with Bosch B25L. I have de-calc'd it several times in the past, successfully. I had to ask someone with stronger muscles than my own, in order to open the base, and even he had difficulty. I sloshed out the accumulated chalky "gunk" several times, and applied diluted white vinegar, which I left for a few hours, and then rinsed it out several times. I also cleaned the reservoir with descaler & vinegar etc. Then I filled the reservoir with a mixture of 2./3 distilled water and 1/3 tap water. (The bottom screw still leaks a little, even though I attached another washer.) To my dismay the iron does not dispense any steam when I press the steam button on the iron. I read "trsv's" comments on a "deep rinse cycle" but I can't see how this can clear any calc "gunk" that has built up in the hose (if indeed that is the reason why my iron no longer steams) because when I press the steam button, no steam comes through the hose, to be able to force/clear any rubbish out of it. Does anyone have a Bosch technical helpline phone number?
