I'll be changing over to Sky TV, fibre internet and telephone on 14th October. I'm currently working through my 30 day's notice with Virgin Media (have the internet, tv and phone with them). At the moment, I have a white Telewest Broadband box on the wall near the tv and I have thick white cables running from it, into my Tivo box and around the sitting room skirting board (covered by trunking) to my modem. Am I right in understanding that the Sky engineers when installing my tv, fibre internet and telephone will not have any use for these cables and Telewest box? Will it be alright for me to remove the cables back to the white Telewest box, remove that one and then put a plastic plate(?) over any holes behind the Telewest box? I just don't want the Sky engineer to insert more trunking above the VMedia trunking that is already running around the skirting, if the VMedia trunking/cables, etc, can be removed? Can anybody explain to me if it's ok to remove all of this before the Sky engineer turns up, and how they dealt with any holes, etc, behind the white Telewest box please? Thank you.

sorted byAll cables from this box can be removed as, like you say, Sky use there own cables, no reason really why they couldn't use the trunking already in place providing the cable route will be the same.
I might be wrong but I believe Sky requires two cables from the dish (plus a power cable from the socket obviously) while virgin only have one cable plus the power cable so I would imagine they will need to run their own cable and won't re-use the single cable already present.
your modem will be connected to a telephone box thing inside your house. if you don't have a bt line already then when the open reach enginer comes, you can ask him install it in a particular place and if he's kind, he will do it for you. so no wires for the modem trailing anywhere as the modem connects to the telephone line(I think, could be different for the sky fibre option)
keep the white telewest box attached to the wall, just remove the wires connecting to the modem and TiVo box.

I have just noticed also that Virgin Media have a white cable coming in from the wall (near front door) that is clipped to the skirting board and then it runs up and around my kitchen door frame (clipped in place) and then along the skirting and into the sitting room - this cable is the one that runs into the white Telewest box on the wall in the sitting room. Will the Sky engineer remove all of this cabling (apart from where it is attached to the box on the wall outside of the front door), as surely he/she will want to run their cables around the door frame etc, into the sitting room? Thank you.
The Telewest box looks really ugly on the wall by the way - it's not hidden away behind the tv set in the corner - the old Telewest engineer placed in on the wall next to the tv unit. I'm sure he put it on upside down as well (it does say Telewest Broadband upsidedown!), and I have a large metal attachment sticking out of the top of it with three white cables attached - would have looked a lot neater behind the tv set, and perhaps also put on the correct way.
sky will not remove any cabling, especially ones belonging to virgin. just take out all the cabling you can attached to the telewest box. ive got two wires that I can unscrew from my telewest box, one for the modem and one for the Tivo box. the phone line is fed from the telwest box to the phone junction box. I don't think you can unscrew the phone wire.
im in the same boat meaning moving from virgin to sky. my telewest box is tucked away in a corner so im ok in terms of how it looks in the room. but kep the box as if you decide to go back to firgin, you can use the same connection box. or alternatively, ask virgin to come round and remove the box. if you go back to them, they'd just come back and reinstall, but maybe another place of your choice.
Yes, I see that I can unscrew the wires for the tivo box and the modem. However, what about the cable that comes in from the front door and goes around the skirting and the door frame then into the sitting room - this cable goes into the bottom of the Telewest box - I'm just wondering if this cabling around the door frame, etc, will be where the Sky engineer will want to put their cables?
price increase from virgin. service has been spot on from virgin but cannot stay with virgin with the price increases.
All depends where the dish will be situated?
Normally they opt for the easy option, drilling straight through the wall below the dish or run the cable along the outside wall and then through.
If you're not happy with that, insist they route the cable the way you want, after all your the customer who's paying for it.
