Not quite, I have one of these, I pull it out of my Series X downstairs and plug it into my Series S upstairs and all the games are still on it (digital, not disc), I have even taken it over to my friends house and played the games over there on my account directly from this memory card, if I need more expansion in the future I can just buy another and swap them out when I need to without having to open up the console like I had to on my PS5.
Happy to help
Go to checkout. It removes this. Folks should know this already.
This is from Amazon EU, so there is import fees of £33.95. Thank you Brexit
Should be £100 for the gen 3 speeds tbh
Its more complicated than that though, which is why people get confused.
Uses a decent upper-end Hynix storage chip, onboard Gen4 Phison controller which is gen4 and uses a modified CFExpress connector with a bus of ~4gbps,(An improvement over the standard gen3 CF) but could be faster than CF as its a custom build.
Plus a few early news stories stated that the SX didn't support PCIE 4 as it used the SN530 for its internal NVME, but this was wrong and was corrected by WD as it uses a custom version that supports gen4. This is where a lot of the false statements come from.
So you are correct that at a glance it appears to be gen3, but it all operates at gen4, clarified by Microsoft and people like Western Digital who made the hardware
Comparing raw stats is silly. Multiple credible sources show it loading games from the expansion card at the same speed as the internal too. If you compared the off-the-shelf components you would be correct, but these are custom variants.
This folk obviously didn’t know..but thanks
I assume xbox won't allow you to play new gen games on it, but fine for old ones indeed or storing new ones.
Edited so I don't spread misinformation! Thank you. (edited)
That's the whole point
125,000 8mb memory cards at £14.99 a pop?
Read the above
Paying more for the propitiatory memory card, hopefully they will do an adapter at some point to add your own NVMe.
I’m surprised a third party hasn’t already made one
No, my point was that there is a faster M.2 PS5 compatible SSD on sale right now for £115 and has multiple uses.

This proprietary choice from MS serves nothing other than to allow them to control pricing and competition. Just like Sony did with the Vita memory cards when Micro SD cards were the obvious choice. (edited)
"Alexa, how much made up nonsense can I fit into one post?" (edited)
I actually think this is the better approach as its plug and play. The idea of opening your console will scare people and these are just so much easier to use if you want to have more than one or swap between different consoles.
£150 is "nearly £200"?
Then it's also "nearly £100"
Depends. People should be opening their consoles anyway to clean. Especially with how easy the PS is to open. Then it's just a matter of undoing 2 screws, 2 minute job. Personally I'd much rather that than Microsoft gouging you for twice the price
Yeah I have already popped open the ps5 to clean it. Never had an easier console to open up and the nvme slot is easy to access. No worry about causing any damage. Ps5 design is really consumer friendly this gen.
2025 I recon!
Any chance you could take a picture of it next to a combine harvester?
Thanks for these, can you take a picture next to a needle for me as well please?
GO to checkout and buy.
Wrong, I use my seagate 8tb that I had with my last gen console, you can save the XS games on it, but can't play, but when you do want to play, just move it to internal storage and your good to go.
How long does it take roughly to transfer over? Say a 100gb game?
I think February might see your wish come true.
Except you can’t play new games from a faster cheaper ssd.
Speaking from experience as I have one.
Transferring them across is very fast though.
How many 1tb SSDs at these speeds in external enclosures can you get under £100?
(edited)
You can play the non S/X games straight from the external hard drive.I have normal 2 TB connected to my X and play games straight off that.
