Lidl Plus App and Coupons

Posted 16th Nov 2023 (Posted 14 h, 25 m ago)
Just venting here. I got the Black Friday offers leaflet this week and there were a few items that were listed with Lidl Plus offers i.e Jumper, Socks and i thought that by using the Lidl Plus app at the checkout the discount would be applied . Now on my phone it only showed 5 items that i needed to activate and thought the price would be adjusted at the till but upon checking my receipt at home the discount was not taken off.
I then rang customer service and waited til it went through the options twice and chose option 6 0203 966 5566 and spoke to a sales consultant who was very nice and put a £5 credit on my account and i expressed my frustration at having to activate these deals WHEN really you would think that it would just be discounted when using the app.
The upshot is if nobody complains they will not do anything to put this right SO if you have been ripped off then give them a call and they will credit you and hopefully put things right in the future.

I thought it was rather well known to activate things on the app when using it

'I didn't read the terms and conditions, got charged more and it's everybody else's fault but mine'

I assume the reason you have to activate the offers is so you’ll open the app more frequently and spend on things you may not have bought.

Yes, it is very frustrating, I first used the app in Italy and didn't realise you had to actually activate the offer, I complained to customer services and in the end I got a refund on the extra I had paid. I thanked them but pointed out that there was no logical reason to require activation and surely just scanning the app should be more than sufficient. They chose not to reply on this point. Same story over here but Sainsbury's have a similar system so I always have to be extra careful when going to either store.

    The reason for me is....

    1. You get a free item for spending xxx amount which conflicts with another offer. This only allows you to activate one offer. If it didn't it would get confusing and/or only discount the cheapest which isn't ideal.

    2. Say one day you can't carry much shopping and/or don't want to spend to much but need the item on offer at that time, or even only one on the shelf, it's best to not activate the offer if you know you'll be going back again as you can then get 2+ and save even more as codes are one time use.

For example free bakery item with 3 for £1.50 on brownies.

    3. Maybe you never had the product before and want to try it first before you buy multiples, again buying one to try is less discount than buying 2+ if you like the product.

Hope they make sense as they're some reasonings I can see the logic of de/activating the vouchers.

Having said that I've once been in activated the coupon and it still didn't come off, even on app it said invalid with the product visible.

On another side note, this isn't just Lidl, many reward apps make you activate an offer because of conflicts/deals on etc.

Yes it can be frustrating but just read it and hit the right buttons....and just FYI I have made the mistake of not activating too when I thought it was, but whatever was my fault. (edited)

In general i normally activate the vouchers that are visible that i want to use on a Thursday but with this black friday leaflet FOR ME it looked the way it was presented that i would just show my app at the till NOT that those items needed activating on the app. Thanks for your point of view.

I activated coupon before and it still never discounted. I checked i bought the correct item also. I never bothered to complain, but should have really (edited)

Doesn't the app notification tell you to 'activate in app' or similar?

Well if you were hoping to save money on the current round of energy savings you would have needed to opt in.
If you want the Nectar or Clubcard prices you have to present your card/code (opt in at the till)
If you want companies to send you emailed vouchers and codes, usually agreeing for them to use your details. Opting in
They won't give you something for free if they can help it, even if they advertise it as being available

Yes i get the gist of what you are saying BUT if you download the App and Present the App at the till then in my opinion i have played the game , done my bit and should be afforded all the deals of the week at the discounted prices.
