Based on the HUKD guidelines for sellers' feedback I'm not even sure this deal should be allowed.

Thousands of abysmal reviews on Reseller Ratings (clickable link) alone.

Trustpilot reviews are a bit better but I'm not convinced.

Microsoft has reduced Windows 8 RAM requirement to minimum of 1GB so this tablet is aimed to gain market share from 1GB RAM Android tablet whilst not impacting sales of Windows laptops and Desktops (for which Google Android has no presence other than Chromebook). Therefore 1GB RAM is for entry low end uses expecting such users have also at least a laptop or desktop to do the regular heavier stuff. Therefore people who complain that this is 1GB RAM is stating the obvious that it will not perform wonderfully for the application beyond its design/price point as it is blindingly obvious it is not going to perform. Having said this Windows will page happily to another 1 GB to 2GB into the solid state memory of the tablet but again it is not going to be butter smooth compared with a £300 core i3 laptop as this is sub £150 and why should it perform as well as £300-£500 machine?
More importantly I have a Bay Trail Windows 8 tablet with 2GB RAM but going from 8.0 to 8.1 update 1 had dropped memory requirement and when I looked into system monitors of my 2GB RAM there was about 1GB in use with 1GB free with light workload (Firefox with about 6 tabs plus Microsoft Word). Perfectly nippy system with office work and general browsing. I would say very hot for an 8" tablet. I believe this is the cheapest Windows 8 computing device I have ever come across, fabulous value as the hardware is pretty much well tested in the Android world, though not a famous brand.

1GB RAM is a bit of a killer in this. Limits its uses somewhat. 2GB is just so much more usable, in the likes of the Toshiba Encore or the swathe of equivalent tablets. If you *just* want to do tablet things, then this might be okay, but I want a windows 8 tablet to do more than a regular tablet!

It's hot for what it is, though - given it's teh same price as a Galaxy Tab 3 pretty much.

They àre registered in Hong Kong, so import duty/vat may get added. 16gb internal drive and the fact its only Windows 8 not 8.1 all àre downsides.
  7. deleted427631's avatar
I have an older tablet with 16gb drive and win8 won't update to 8.1 as there's only 4 - 5gb left. I know it makes it cheaper at first, but not useful in the long run.

surely you are better off with a Dell Venue from their outlet ?

Good price BUT There will be some cheap Windows 8.1 Tablets coming out soon in July from more established computer manufacturers such as Toshiba! While it won't hit £120, it might be a little more expensive at around £170, the extra will be worth it!

Good on you OP. God knows how you found this, and despite reservations this is worth a punt at this price. Hot.

    Intresting stuff.
Fun fact : My Dell V8P right now is using 1 GB of RAM for most basic things, mail, dropbox, and one tab of IE in metro mode(Yeah, I use IE because it is the most touch friendly browser and it is suprisingly decent and yes I do have firefox and chrome installed as well).

Now you can imagine what kind of madness they are trying to brew right now. Either they are going to pull crazy stuff like RAMDISK or maybe they have another technology to handle this then it'd be fine but if they are just leaving as it is, you're gonna have a bad time....

Probably, but remember this is windows so you can mount the sd card (assuming it has a slot) as a physical disk or a folder within the main system disk, so it's not like the problems you get with Android and it's handling of cards.

Also, Windows is pretty effective with a swap file and since the 'hard drive' is solid state, it should be a whole lot faster, so I'd expect it not to be so poor as a desktop running with 1GB ram. Unless you are insane enough to want to run Photoshop, SQL Server or do any video encoding.

Personally I'd want to spend the extra £100 or so and get a Latitude 10 from the Dell outlet site, because these are superior in every way and I wouldn't buy from this supplier, but if something like this turned up at a UK outlet it would make a reasonable tablet with far better capabilities than anything Android.

If buying this, make sure you install the 8.1 upgrade before anything else, otherwise you might struggle to find enough free space. 8.1 on a tablet is very much worth the effort.

I'm sorry but this has to be one of the silliest deals in a while! 16GB HDD space!? The heck you gonna do with that? Yes you can expand via external means but should have about 32GB minimum and even that is cutting it short.

A site that barely anyones heard of, can you really trust that? Only positive I REALLY sorta see to this is the IPS screen which means its probably has decent viewing angles but personally your better off spending a couple more extra and getting a branded Windows tab, not a cheap knockoff.

FocalPrice is extremely well-known on this site. They're kind of like DX. I've used them loads of times without any issue at all - buying cheapo tablet and phones around the £40-60 mainly - and I've never paid import duty on them either. Delivery is faster than DX. I've never had to do returns with them, so I can't comment on that.

Please don't let the heat tempt you into buying this stuff. You are better off not dealing with this company as far as this deal is concerned. Low value stiff, OK but not £120. A Caution

FocalPrice I think had something to do with DX (former employees or something?) - they shipped faster than DX, in Oz I was waiting up to a month for DX to pull its finger out and dispatch things which were shown as "in stock" when I ordered them; DX are also more expensive on similar things now too. Haven't tried to return anything to FP though, DX were mixed bag on this (had to chase every single return, one took over 6 months to get sorted out).

Something strange there, windows 8.1 requires 16GB minimum (you're ok there) and if you're updating requires 3GB space (again you're ok) - even if you were going for 64bit (requires 3.8GB) you'd be ok with 4-5GB left. Are you sure that's how much space you've got left, that it's not consolidated across two or more storage devices, and you're going through a standard update?

By the way, W8.1 introduces compressed installs so that it only takes up 4GB on smaller devices, such as those with 16GB
Only niggle is that it requires a clean install rather than an upgrade, as it messes around with the partitions. But maybe useful for some...

That may be but I'd have a Surface Pro over an iPad any day (even with the price difference)

But to be honest, I'd rather separate the tablet and desktop experiences, because they're very different. An iPad would be almost fine for my tablet needs but I couldn't get away with not having a 'proper' laptop (15.6) to do 'real' stuff on.

I have not got this tablet but I have a Toshiba Encore 32GB, I guess that it may have around 5GB spare if it did not have hidden partition with a recovery partition. But if it did have a recovery then there will be virtually nothing left which is very bad. There is a micro SD slot, buy a say 32GB Transcend 32GB 300X SDXC, and mount this into a folder on the c: drive, say, c:\SDCARD. Then when you write to c:\SDCARD the data is put on the micro SDXC card. Install all your programs here.
But my opinion is that unless your use is very as I said then I would suggest that you get a 32GB version Windows 8 tablet.

@tapi - My windows folder is 12gb in size with winsxs subfolder taking nearly 8gb! So slightly under 4gb now, I don't get offered it through updates, screen res is too low for the store as it's a 7"screen, so I'm probably stuck unless win 8.1 clean install will let me use my win 8 key.
