Really like these, but being a Windows User and the OS version is an issue.
What, Windows 10?
From what I understand its Chinese Version and cant be changed, you need to re-buy licence.

It will be the Chinese version but it's very easy to replace with the English version. I've done it twice this year. It's only a licensing issue, and as long as you chose the correct version to replace it with, there should be no problem.

Gearbest are on the of worst companies from China but they seem to be sponsored here all the time.
Lightinthebox have a great customer understanding but you never see them here.
Gearbest always have problems
Got to agree about lightinthebox, their customer service is outstanding, but I've never had a problem with Gearbest.
Ordered headphones, nothing arrived. Raised paypal issue, Gearbest asked if we can close issue as it can still arrive. Nothing arrived Paypal will not open issue again and Gearbest do not aswer emails.

I guess everyone's experience is different. I've ordered probably half a dozen times, and everything's turned up in good time and good order.

Hmm,

I asked the 2 questions about (above backpack and free game) so cheers for confirming you got a backpack @gerdleah. It now appears laptopsdirect have sneakily REMOVED the photos of the backpack and have updated their listing with the FREE rocket league game with the purchase.

I asked them to confirm if you get the backpack now or not but they haven't replied to my email, so I'm gonna buy another laptop elsewhere instead.
I have an MSI GE72 6QD from last year. It's essentially the predecessor to this laptop and I was very impressed with it (even if I am new to PC gaming).
The GTX 1050 is supposed to give a 30% improvement on performance over the 960M in my laptop, and mine can run MGS5, Dishonored 2 and The Witcher 3 on Very High at 30-45 fps. Not perfect but enough for more casual gaming. Back then that laptop cost £950 as a special deal, so this seems like a bargain.

You might want to find a laptop with more VRAM in its graphics card, as this only has 2GB. Might not be very futureproof. You might want to do some more research and not take my word for it though. The processor used seems a bit overkill compared to the graphics card, but it will allow for very quick encoding of videos if that's your thing.

What I can vouch for in this laptop (as it is very similar to mine) is excellent audio out of the jack; a vast collection of IO; solid IPS display; great boot times (thanks to the SSD + HD); good RGB backlit keyboard and passable trackpad.

Mine was reportedly quite hard to open up and you may void your warranty, so consider that. However you can most likely upgrade the available RAM to at least 16GB. Some distributors will arrange this for you on request (as mine did) so you can keep your warranty and avoid breaking something.
Just received the laptop and I can confirm it comes with the backpack. At work just now so will let you know if you get a free game too.
I never saw a free game comment. Can't see it now either. Some sites seem to be offering Rocket League though for laptops over £500. This is just speculation though.
I can't say for certain the back pack will come but it's coming tomorrow. If it's not in there I will be complaining to Laptop direct!

Free P&P with Scan is simple enough to obtain so the price quoted is easily do-able.It's been discussed here more times than I can remember.
You need to spend £50 for free shipping. And that still doesn't fix the customer service issue - I'd pay that extra £6 not to be messed around in the event of an issue.
Still, I guess more choice isn't a bad thing and many people will be ordering more parts as well as the case so the £50 minimum should be easy enough to reach.

If you make x number of posts on Hexus you get free Scan shipping with no minimum.

10 years on and my lazy ass makes a few posts every time I order something from Scan, then I think "**** it cba" and just buy it anyway... one day though...

It's been this price for weeks tbh, I've had my eye on it but not 100% convinced, tried the keyboard in Curry's and it didn't feel all that good.
Ruffuz - what's better about the one you posted other than it has an SSD? The one in the deal has a better processor no?
Ahh, I see it has a NVIDIA graphics card. I guess if you game then that one is better.

SSD will give much better experience than slightly faster cpu.
Graphic card is just a small bonus.

what planet do you live on ;)

Considering I studied UX design, a fairly normal one flirt
I too have a Lumia for work. As a business tool it's great. As you'd expect seamless integration with enterprise and all of the office stuff. There are lots of great business apps (office lens etc) & maps work great & it's secure!

My wife loves her Win phone (830) as does my Mum (550). They don't use any other phones. I think the problem is that if you're an occasional user (business) but revert to iOS or Android after work this leads to frustration and people calling it 's****y' just because they don't like it. It's just different!

Personally, I couldn't live with a Win device as a my own phone because of a lack of banking & personal finance apps but I also never thought I'd find a better OS than Palm and then following that BB. I do own a 550 though to use a satnav, cost me £35 on Visa path. Bargain!

Win phone has its place.

why would you want to make your android look like a s****y windows phone?!
you have never owned a windows 10 phone have you? they are clean, the tiles and menus are much nicer to navigate, I have been android for a month and it has been a huge step backwards coming from w10 to android UI wise. if Microsoft weren't so busy ruining windows phone by removing their own apps from the store while launching them on competitors app stores I wouldn't have switched from w10 phone

I have a lumia phone for work, it's slow, unresponsive, unintuitive and a pain to work with. I also have to set these up on a daily basis for other employees who then complain. I have stopped using mine and just forward work calls to my android. The chronic lack of apps aside, the UI is appalling
Give it time, the move to android will be the best decision ever!

Nothing with a ulv processor is viable as a desktop replacement regardless of whether it has Thunderbolt or not, the ulv processors may be slightly faster than a Core-m but in reality they're still very weak processors overall. I've read criticisms about the Core-m saying it's too slow for video editing and 3D tasks but I'd say exactly the same about the ulv processors, I did briefly try a quick render on my ulv powered PC and it was going to take so hilariously long compared to my desktop PC I just waited until I could render it on the desktop PC. In practice, I don't find I can do anything more on the ulv PC's than I can on the Core-m's and I also have to put up with an irritating amount of heat and noise from the ulv machines.
For those needing a bit more horsepower for a desktop replacement, I wouldn't even remotely consider a ulv processor and would be looking at one of the 45W quad core parts which is available in smaller laptops although there is a size/weight penalty.
John
You're missing the point.
The i5-7200U is a 15W TDP processor, the i5-7Y54 is 5W. For web browsing etc. both will be fine. Anything more than that and the i5-7Y54 is going to noticeably trail behind.
Given that both these laptops have thunderbolt someone may look to replace their desktop/laptop setup with an XPS and thunderbolt dock. Doing that you will be more limited with the i5-7Y54 than you would the i5-7200U.
I never claimed one of these processors was suitable for video editing and 3D. I simply said to be aware one processor is slower than the other. You are using your own use case to represent everybody.
Seconding this, hook a core M up to an external gpu and they really feel constrained compared to a U series chip, but then so do the Us compared to the quad cores. I suspect it's a sustained load thing with the M series though, with web browsing once it's done rendering the page that's it for a while and it can go to sleep. With gaming it's going to be under load for an hour or more so will end up throttling down to 1GHz or less.
*edit* also the price of the latitude 7275 (I. E. Dell xps 12, a 12" tablet with dual thunderbolt 3s, core M, 8GB ram and a small battery) is ridiculous. The going rate on ebay is 400 GBP or so, but dell are charging 800 minimum.
While technically a ulv processor with a discrete processor is not as slow for gaming, it's still rubbish for it - gaming is a function of both the CPU and the GPU so while having a beefy GPU can help with the eye candy, it doesn't overcome the very weak GPU. Dell did try it for a spell with the AW13 but abandoned it and more sensibly went with a 45W quad core part instead which also features a dedicated external GPU system in addition to an onboard GTX 1060. That is a decent portable gaming system, an ultrabook with a ulv processor and a TB port absolutely is not.
Just because a ulv processor isn't quite as painfully slow as the Core-m doesn't stop the ulv being painfully slow either, I wouldn't remotely consider a core-m or ulv platform if I was planning gaming or any application that required any sort of cpu horsepower as they're both useless at it.
John
Except the Alienware 13 weighs 2.6kg, making it pretty useless as a laptop in my opinion as it's too heavy to use on a lap or carry around. I appreciate what you're saying but gaming laptops have been practically unchanged for a decade, they gain more performance each year but every generation is hot, heavy, has a short battery life and can be incredibly expensive as laptop GPUs command a premium price. This makes them bad at being laptops but great at being compact desktops. With thunderbolt 3 we suddenly have devices in the 1kg range that can be good laptops that also play games when at a desk. They're not ideal, but I think it's a much better compromise.

There's no way 2.6kg is too heavy to carry around or use on your lap, if we're talking about an SLI 17/18in machine then sure - totally agree with you on that front as that's what was the end of the portable DTR's for me. My daily laptop used to be a 17in machine around 4kg and it was really no problem to carry around at all (still carry three to four kg's of laptops every day and I'm not going to make any bold claims about upper body strength), just a little hefty for using on a train seat - 2.6kg is still absolutely lightweight, it's just the way the market is that appears heavy because it's more than a common ultrabook.

As for gaming laptops being practically unchanged for a decade, that's just so bizarre I'm wondering if you're just trolling now. Being able to have a machine just 2.5kg in weight with a 45W quad core and nearly six hours of batterylife is insanely good for a gaming laptop, it's magnitudes better than older gaming laptops - I thought getting near desktop performance in a 4kg machine and two hours battery life was good, the leaps and bounds gaming laptops are making now are incredible.

Thunderbolt is not some magical connection as some people seem to think it is - gaming on a 1kg ultrabook with a discrete GPU is just horrible. I truly wonder if the people who keep recommending it have actually tried this? I actually have as I liked the idea of it but it really doesn't work. Ultrabooks are good for light work that doesn't need any cpu or gpu horsepower regardless of whether they have a magical thunderbolt connection or not - trying to make them do any more than that is just a lesson in frustration.

You keep saying how the XPS 13 is viable as a desktop replacement because it has thunderbolt but thunderbolt for what exactly? There's nothing you can do with thunderbolt that will help the painfully slow ulv platform.

It's nothing to do with my 'own use case' - I've used a variety of processors and a variety of different tasks, there's nothing the ulv processor does noticeably better than a Core-m, rather hilariously I've seen people criticise the Core-m for being slow at video transcoding and 3D gaming....yet the ulv processor while it may be technically slightly faster is still laughably slow to be viable at the task and no use as a desktop replacement.
CampGareth
Joshimitsu91
Johnmcl7

Who's gaming on an M? Or a U for that matter. At the end of the day there's a reason why desktop computers and big old fat gaming laptops still exist. These machines have a purpose, and do it well. They're not marketed as gaming machines, or even work horses. They're designed for portability, running web apps and productivity apps, and running 1080p video. That's about it. I agree that so far the heads up and information has been useful, but let's keep the debate seated in reality and leave gaming where it belongs. On gaming machines.

Also FYI got my confirmation through folks, I7 model on its way to me!

Many thanks again OP. I've been waiting for a decent deal on an XPS 13 for months!

Anyone who bought one knows if it is micro USB charging or a barrel charger? USB obviously much more practical for top up charges
It has micro USB charging port
Are you sure, as my Connect 10 has micro USB but won't take a charge over it? Sorry to ask again but want to be sure.
Spruceby has confirmed. Just to add I bought mine from Tesco, still the same Viglen Connect 9 model.
Be aware it can be a pain to upgrade Windows on the 16GB variant.

Good luck getting Forza Horizon 3 to install on your computer if you buy it to play on PC. Been trying the past week and it always stalls at 43.50GB downloaded with no sign of moving. Microsoft don't want to know and Turn 10 doesn't seem to be able to do anything about it. Stupid Windows Store. Great game when it works though! Lol
Game installs fine for my but crashes ten second into the game :-(

I have one of these too. I only used it briefly for browsing and it runs bittorrent fine. I don't understand why the manufacturers insist on putting the fully bloated Windows 10 on it. It would make more sense and make the things 100% more usable to have Windows XP on them, maybe Windows 7 at a push. But having Windows 10 with the Store, the whole Metro interface interchangeable with desktop/tablet view, Windows firewall with advanced settings, all admin tools, Windows defender and an overall system that's at least 5 times the size Windows XP's was is just insane. Either make the ROM big enough and put a better processor and more RAM in these tablets or don't bother making them. Or at least make RAM expandable by the user. 1GB of RAM struggles to handle Android 7 in tablets and you're expecting it to run the full Windows 10 ecosystem plus whatever the user installs themselves? It's a rip-off.
One day when I can be bothered I'll clean the dust off mine, wipe it clean inside and install Android x86, Windows XP and/or Windows 7 lite and dual boot into a much faster more enjoyable device that can run most apps and has about twice the user data space as these overbloated slabs of brick.
The one good thing to them (at least on mine) is that they come with a full sized USB port meaning you can install Android, Linux, or Windows XP Windows 7 lite onto a stick and set it to boot from the USB bypassing Windows 10 and being able to run any of these systems and others direct from your live USB stick. You're still going to be hampered by the slowdown of using a USB as the host of your system, WiFi connections might prove impossible, driver issues probable, and although you bypass Windows 10 to an extent by booting straight to your USB it will still be chugging away in the background at a lower power consumption level and still with 1GB of RAM maximum, which is why I'd favour just wiping the whole dammed thing and replacing it with a more manageable system. And if it doesn't work, who cares? Toss it in the bin which is where it'll end up anyway if you persist in running the ever-expanding-in-size Windows 10 that grinds it to a halt if you do anything overly-strenuous like start up a YouTube video on it.
Being a Windows 10 tablet it's not the best tablet for kids. I've had one of these for about a year and it's so slow I never bother to use it. An android tablet is 100 times better
I've got one of these, for the price it does the job but is slow and the touchscreen in landscape never calibrates properly. Was great for loading movies on for the kids on holiday though.
arggghhhh....such a piece of garbage. slow, laggy, vague touchscreen and the best thing about it is how fast it will start to crash and freeze.
I have a 1gb 10 inch tablet with otherwise identical specs, the 1gb alone makes this almost unusable.
I also have a linx 10 inch 2gb version, which chuggs along miles better, it's on the lowest possible end of usable, whereas the 1gb is totally unusable. I use it as monitor for my.cctv ( it dials in to the DVR via a web browser and the app is very light, it still struggles).
I would say save your hard earned pennies and get something with 2gb.

Yeah, i cant really be bothered to anyway lol I paid £330 checking me receiptHow do you check the warranty left and then how do you go through web based system to get the full 12 months if it is less, please mate?

https://support.hp.com/gb-en/checkwarranty

It tells you time left and gives you the dispute option. When the system is working that is. Do a PDF print of the eBuyer invoce to upload as evidence.

There is also the "HP Support" app for firmware and software updates that's pre-installed and has a section on it that can check the warranty and links you to the above to dispute.

http://www.argos.co.uk/product/6513962 is this a good deal, I have no idea about laptops

The processor in the Argos deal is a "Intel Pentium n3710" which, combined with a traditional (mechanical) hard drive will make the Argos laptop a bit (quite a bit) sluggish. It IS a big hard drive though. The Ebuyer one I linked to above is about 50% faster (CPU-wise) and, together with SSD will be much faster in general use. Question: do you need a big hard drive? If not, go for the Ebuyer laptop IF you prefer to buy new (rather than second-hand). Ok?

Not bad for 256GB SSD and 8GB RAM. I personally wouldn't worry about the non-FHD but others will. Cheaper here (same company?) £370

OR this one which I think is better value at £290 from Ebuyer. CPU is a little slow but offset by SSD. Bargain. If you can live with Ebuyer.

Have this now, not sure I am enjoying the lack of apps at all :(

Makes me chuckle when the uneducated see the bee all and end all in a 'Store' and how many apps that provides, and that's all that matters.

In the end if you are buying a Linx 1010B for an app store alone, its not the product for you, suggest you buy an Android or Apple tablet, they are for people who only want to run apps from one 'store'.

These are pure 'Store' figures... I can offer the links if you wish to read the articles yourself.
Android Play Store - 2,280,000 (July 2016)
Apple App Store - 1,400,000 (January 2015)
Windows Store - 669,000+(September 2015)

Now for those who can think outside the box, Steve Bulmer publicised that there were 4 million native Windows applications back at CES in 2010... So Windows had over 2x as many 'apps' available 5 years previous... enough said.

You need to look at what you need from a device and buy to your needs. Don't buy a product and then moan that the product is poor because you purchased the incorrect product and then it doesn't meet your requirements.

In the end the Linx 2in1's are good value for money and for the price are decent at what they do.

Regards
Flea

There has been loads of GBA games on the Windows Phone store in the past and, other than a couple of adverts when they load, they've been perfectly safe.
I can't comment on this game though, just thought I'd share my experience.
they may very well be legit, you've just gotta have some skepticism these days what with all the viruses and ****
Well it's not going to be legit as it's not released by Nintendo. If someone has bundled ads with it then these are full on pirate copies.
downloaded and tested , works very well.

True this is a ROM inside a emulator . Before launching the game, i switched my internet off, not more pointless ads!!

EDIT, You also can get few others Pokemon games like ruby and sapphire.

I've just clicked on the "get deal" link and the price is displayed in GBP. Previously when I've bought stuff on Gearbest its been priced in dollars. Is this a change from Gearbest? I assume I'll still be charged in dollars and this is a conversion of dollars into GBP?

£500 spend at gearbest...you are far braver than me....
Nothing wrong for spending for a very fine speced machine!
I paid even more for this earlier... and this laptop is great... it comes chinese but not hard to get a english 10 on it licensed!
its not the product thats the issue its the retailer and warranty (or rather lack of a worthwhile one from Gearbest)
If you have a problem with this £500 laptop from Gearbest then you may as well consider the money gone....

For the specs and built quality and price... i doubt there will be many issues... also this has been around for a while, never heard any major issues from anyone!

I understand £500 is not everyone's cup of tea, but if you check alternatives of the same specs, you are looking for around 50% surcharge...

I used gearbest for over a year, and dont remember having an issue with any product so far... cant speak for everyone, but i choose what i buy searching unbiased reviews from different part of the world... not just from a single popular channel/site!
One more thing of note, which many of you might not be aware of... if you purchase this item from **ANY** company using Paypal, you lose all Consumer Credit Act 1974 - Section 75 credit law consumer rights. Buy anything over £100 I advise you NOT to use Paypal, and pay for the item directly with a foreign exchange credit card.

My question is why didn't external graphics cards take off. Ultrabook by day, plug into external graphics card by night via open source interface.

Its not as easy as it seems :(. Its not masss produced yet and as such expensive.

I'd prefer the same with out the graphics card but other bells and whistles. Do people really look to mid-priced laptops for high end gaming? All I ever reading about PC gaming is how building a rig or at least buying a desktop is the way and laptops are always a silly option to take. Take out the graphics card and for the same price something more useful coule be put in to make this a more attractive mid-price option.

I've always been the same, but I bought an Alienware due to limited space, being away for work 1/4 of the year and the resale value which desktops don't have (less you scrap them individually). I got a good deal on the Alienware but otherwise yeah desktops are 100% better - it's just most people are nervous at building one when it's mega easy now. I'll be building one when I move to a bigger place.
CarlottaMonroe
A second hard drive for more storage? A better screen/processor, etc, more RAM? I'm just guessing - Not that any of those are bad in this laptop,. I just wonder why a graphics card in a laptop is such a selling point compared to other things. Unless you really are gaming on a laptop, in which case spending more than this is surely mandatory any way for a decent experience?

The graphics card and other specs on this laptop are good enough for running a lot of games. You aren't obviously going to run AAA games at 1080p with a playable framerate but the appeal here is the portability. If someone wants a gaming rig a desktop is always the best option but this will give you acces to a lot of games to play on the go if you need it.

There are plenty options out there for what you are asking. Drop the graphics and get more storage and better processor etc. £550 is a fair budget for an everyday laptop. It's going to get minimum requirements for a gaming laptop though. Hope you find what you want. It's a minefield picking the right one!

What would you prefer over a graphics card? What would you class as more useful?

They can check the age by the Serial Number with HP devices and probably Dell as well
ah yes, I guess they can. In previous trade in offers most people comment that it's fairly straight forward but have occasionally got told the PSU was missing for the laptop or such like. Mostly they get the full trade in though. Some people look out for cheap working 10" tablets on ebay and use them for trade in.

£100 trade-in is for businesses only. Nevertheless, a good price.

Applies to one man business such as a self employed person. They don't seem to be fussy about that as many on here have done trade in cashback successfully. The important bit is to make sure you include all items (battery, power pack, power lead etc) as they might try reduce payment. Also take a picture of what you're trading in for proof.

Does that include Mouse and Keyboard for Desktop? Excellent deal for self employed as it is a Business expense
I don't think it requires keyboard mouse (or a monitor) but they may reject a home built desktop but they don't actually go into any great details. I don't even know how they check the age as computers can be sold over a period of several years. I guess if it's got Win7 or newer then they'll accept it.
Laptops need a battery and powersupply and 7 years old or newer (again, not sure how they really can check this accurately, I guess they don't)
Main thing is that it boots up and works (loads Windows), is complete and without business etched 'property of xxxxx/ asset no:' things scratched into the case.

i bought the 8.9 version of this on monday, received on tuesday and for the last 2 days it has been working great. can do everything i can do on my pc and netbook on this. its full windows 10 and even comes with a cable to use usb drives in it. it would be better with a keyboard but as a tablet for browsing ect it is fast and works great. im glad i bought it and with a year warranty you cant go wrong. buy it.

I was hesitant, so thanks for the feedback. Going to make my decision today
Hubby and I bought 2 of these via this deal. They are doing 10% off if you buy 2 or more, so we got them for £72 - £36 each. Cracking deal.

The main downside is 1GB RAM,
this could become a problem as you'll become dependant on virtual memory and these types of devices can be bad with 2GB RAM.
You have to basically know what you're getting into.
http://www.camelcamelcamel.fr/uk/charts/B01BHUSDZK

I agree that in 2017 only 1 gb of ram is borderline. Most cheap android phones also have 2gb. Since a tablet is expected to be more graphic intensive... might be trouble.
I think its fair to say, you get what you pay for. I would advice paying more, be it the processor or memory, it works but rapidly slows for a multitude of reasons.

Well.... Would you really want to play it while only being able to see 10-15ft infront of you thought?? - Kinda bad, but I suppose, at least it's sort of possible on lower spec things. Nice find.

Will this work with ark survival evolved?
Not a chance mate... Not only is that game not very optimised this thing wouldn't even run it on the lowest settings... You'll need something with more GPU power and CPU power. You'll be looking to spend something like £500+ but there are some decent laptops around the £650 mark that will play it well enough.

If you want something with a little more behind it and still on the lower end of the gaming laptops, try looking at the Dell Inspiron 15 7000 (7569) I think with the right sale it drops to about £967, but hat will play all current games and has great battery life, note that unless you pay for the extremely expensive one, you'll want to swap the TN panel out for a better Samsung one or something which will cost about £40-£50 and take 3mins to do.

There is a cheaper one of the same laptop, it's about £749 which will also run Ark. Look into it, but I'll opt for the better model which is a couple hundred more. Not the 4k IPS panel, the one between the cheapest and most expensive. You can upgrade the panel with ease, if you can't someone you know can with little effort for sure.

Ark is not one of those games that you can play on a lower spec laptop in general. Good Luck.

I've been using this for a while now. Does the job well.
I really like Bitvise SSH client which wraps the whole thing up in a nice gui which I find much more complete and intuitive than Putty. Easy to do port forwards, key management and SFTP browsing etc. Also comes as a portable app so I have it in my dropbox for use on multiple machines.

I run a real shell inside a Linux VM.

That's great but I use Putty to connect to servers I manage remotely. :)

Ummm annoying that you don't appear to be able to make it auto-close on logoff or be able to create a shortcut to a host (both things Putty can do).
You could visit https://github.com/spodskubka/RemoteTerminal/ where the developer is active and making progress with changes and bug fixes. A feature request is welcome and something simple as a shortcut or live tile for hosts shouldn't be too hard to add, not the developer tho so good luck :)

just a word of warning to people, the Windows 10 version forever gets stuck when downloading and it's 125gb file
I had Windows store problems....spent time trying to fix it. The Microsoft advice to resolve the issue? Re-install Windows.
Did you manage to get it downloaded in the end? Microsoft are pathetic, I could do with a fresh install of Windows but it will revert me back to Windows 8 then I'd have to pay for Windows 10 as the free upgrade expired last year

have you upgraded to win10 already then just download the ISO from microsoft and it will automaticly activate

any new code? both not working

They expire every few minutes, the only way to be sure the code will work is to get it from their Facebook page and use immediately. There is always one on their page but it updates every few minutes and the old one is expired. They implemented that system to try to ensure people were getting the codes direct from them rather than off a forum elsewhere.
Should have been called Gears of Bore, or Gears of Chore. I'm really not a fan. Acutely played all 4 games and I really don't know why they are so hotly rated. Cover mechanics are a mess and I feel divorced from what I'm telling JD to do and what he actually chooses to do.

same I cant believe it! well I paid £35. And I played the first level and since I have been busy. I have a monster PC as well 980ti... could do with this. It is cross platform right? I just looked into selling the physical XB1 copy on eBay and it goes for a couple quid now. So I can't even justify selling it and buying this. What the bloody hell.

horrible company to deal with if there's an issue with device
I bought one of these for the same price about a year ago. For £29 it's an absolute steal.
It's perfectly fine for basic tasks such as web browsing, office use and watching films etc. It will play basic games too, although I've not really used it much for that.
Got a generic case with a Bluetooth keyboard and it becomes a tiny laptop. I've managed to write reports on it on the train and make notes in meetings.
I wouldn't get the 16Gb version but this one is fine.
These should be perfectly usable tablets, daughter has 8" version which is same spec and I have 10", love mine and has replaced laptop for everyday use. Only concern as stated in. Other comment would be that icons in desktop mode are going to be really small. There is a dedicated forum for Linx tablets if you Google.
Is it possible to install a basic Linux distro on it? Or is it locked?
I have an irulu web n walk.
Very handy if you keep it clear of junk. Great for web browsing, downloading, and playing .mkv video.

I just turn off real time virus protection, and keep on top of deleting crap on the internal memory.
Its a full windows tablet, so not uber fast, but bloody handy for me.

Avoid if you have big sausage fingers. As clicking on the small icons can be tricky.
