Hey guys
Was just Browsing amazons boxing day deals week and came across this Laptop. An acer Laptop with ivy bridge icore 5, 4GB ram, Intel HD4000, 500gb hard drive, windows 8, all for only £329.99. Although amazon have the rrp as 400, the acer website and other sites have this laptop at an rrp of 500. In any case laptops with these specs usually go for £450-£500. Only bad things about this laptop is no USB 3.0 or bluetooth. Otherwise has the standard features like HDMI, card reader etc.

The detail spec on Amazon says i3 although it does say i5 in the title at the top

Would be a good price for an i5 if it is an i5 (might be worth checking with Amazon or ordering and arguing) - though the RRP of £399 suggests it should be the i3 model (listed as the RRP on CCL for the i3-3110M version).

Often see similar spec Dell i5s with HD4000 for around the £350 level after discounts

Good price for this spec of laptop.

Amazon Heading and Technical Description refer to an intel Core i5 3210 - which is a i5 according to:
http://ark.intel.com/products/67355/Intel-Core-i5-3210M-Processor-3M-Cache-up-to-3_10-GHz-rPGA

Model number indicates i5. Ordered one for a relative. Seems a decent price for an i5.

Awesome deal!!!! Not going to find anything with an i5 at this price anytime soon. Buy them whilst stocks last!!! Nice one OP. Take some heat son!!!!!

In Product Specification Section it is shown as i 30 processor

well if you do get an i3 it should be easy enough to get a full refund, if you get an i5 then you have yourselves a very good deal.

Having used two Acer laptops in the past (bought because they're usually cheapest) I wouldn't touch Acer with a barge pole. But then again others might have had better experience with it.

The future's bleak

Would rather pay a bit more for a bit better graphics card. Only looking to play Morrowind with mods and xcom, nothing to intense but don't think this will quite cut it

Product specification section clearly states i3. Amazon can always throw that at you later.

The model no. NX.M09EK.002 listed under 'Product Details' relates to the i5 model. so go for it!

Shame new laptops are preinstalled with Win 8. It really makes standard laptops very cumbersome to use and very much ruins the experience. I tend to reach for my old XP laptop, even switch on my Win 7 desktop, over my new Lenovo Win 8 laptops. It's just annoying and less productive.

My original Acer from 2004 still works today, no qualms about product quality. Shame it doesn't have standalone graphics though, even with a higher price or would be near perfect. Intel HD4000 isn't as bad as some make out though.

ahhh a decent price for an i5 at last! :)

Although I would say, Acer has bad build quality. I had 2 laptops bought 2 years ago, I treat both the same, but but my Acer is falling apart, screen casing is taped together, bits of plastic fallen off the base... The other is a Sony, and that is rock solid.

agreed, Acer and HP both have shocking build qualities .... lucky to get them past their guarantees ... however both this and the HP ultra book deals are tempting me ... damn you hukd ;-)

waiting for an Asus / Samsung / Sony at this price

heat added as disposable laptops are the fashion :-)

are acer just as sh#it as they used to be or are they better now?
#28
Manufacturers still frustratingly putting mechanical drives in most laptops......
I'd happily pay a little more to swap that 500gb piece of carp with a 120gb ssd.

I'd guess they're worse. :p

Friends have one with Vista Home Basic on it, now with 2GB ram, around 6yo, it generally sits on the kitchen worktop. It gets used by everyone passing through a busy house, admittedly it doesn't get moved much.
Apart from the parrot ripping off a couple of keys, oO, it's still in decent cosmetic nick, hardware is also fine.
I've done one re-install in that 6 yrs.

xp and an old core2duo will do £30 on ebay.

I know. I can't imagine how we ever managed with only USB2 for the last 10 years.

I've had two acer laptops which were both looked after, and funnily enough, never had a problem.

Four star is the norm. They appear to reserve 5 stars for only exceptional products.

"The Acer Aspire E1-571 is a fine laptop with an impressive specification for the price and a good screen."

I think it's a hot deal

I've ordered one plus a couple of relatives have ordered 3 between them.

After using my laptop with USB3 together with a USB3 HDD and flash drive it difficult to go back to USB2, it's just so damn slow especially when you are copying large files. Considering I bought my Lenove G580 about 4 months ago for £400 and it had a bigger HDD and more RAM together with USB 3 and Bluetooth it was a much better deal.

The review mentioned refers to the Acer E1 571. The laptop posted is the Acer E1 3210 unless I am mistaken?

The HP Pavilion Ultrabook is better then this....

Can you explain further? Because surely the i5 in this is much better than the ULV cpu in the ultra book?
