3.5mm jacks are already supported on iPhone / iPods ? works as a line out anyway.

I think this is more a case of being able to use ANY headphones you like with the device and still have a mic so you can use handsfree calling etc.

Only problem is trying to find a decent set of headphones with a very short cable for use with adaptors like this, anyone know of some good ones????

]These are one of the smallest I have at home, though still work out at just under a metre in length i'd say (which is actually bigger than it sounds!)

Other than the fact that I cant stand them style of headphones and think they should be banned (far too many ignorant people playing them too loud in public places lol) 1 metre is about the going length for any headphone cable isn't it?

The Best I have found are the SE headsets which have a longish adaptor cable and then the headphones are on a separate cable that is only about 9 inches before the headphones split form left to right ears, perfect for these adaptors, but you can only buy the whole set.

Although at about £7 for my last set of HPM-77's its not a terrible price and they are great headphones......
