..and I ordered a white one so I guess that's mine:thumbsup:
The operator did agree that the 30 days cancellation clause is valid and will come into effect on the 24th October (or 30 days from whenever you ordered), if the netbooks haven't arrived by then.
But he was quite adamant that the netbooks will have arrived within the next 2 weeks before the 24th October, as it was just a parts delay.
Also even if the netbook arrives and you decide you no longer want it, you can play around with it for upto 7 business days and still obtain a full refund; no administration or carriage charge.
I pressed that issue as I'm still not entirely sure I still want it, so that's a worry off the mind, being stuck with it after I no longer want it etc.
Hope it helps someone else ; )
I suggest you edit the screenshot.
Pretty sure the GPS part of the driver is enabled out of the box with these, although I didn't check it was the latest driver (mentioned in the blog). However, you still need to fix the application level problem because Vodafone Mobile Connect won't let you enable the GPS portion of your WWAN card.
If you have a net connection at the time you can use it with Google Earth Pro, Or Google Earth Free (with the earthbridge add-on)
The main problem is that the software has to map your location against a map. The map can be held locally (Autoroute etc) or remotely (Google Earth etc), but either way, there's no real point in using it without that.
Surprising as it is, I've never had an issue with Autoroute. I daresay it's cheap enough on eBay now?
Instantly wiped HDD out and installed Windows 7 on it. Everything works flawlessly (well, after a whole day of tinkering, at least :)!
Some tips:
- To get WWAN/GPS up and running under Win7 you have to install 5530 drivers and Wireless Manager for _Vista_ from Dell website. You don't need separate GPS driver (it is included in 5530 package). GPS uses COM3 port (at least on my box).
IMPORTANT: remember about installing "Dell Wireless Enable / Disable" tool (available for Win7), looks like GPS/WWAN radio is off by default and there is no way to turn it on without this lttle app.
Haven't got any problems with Vodafone trial SIM, it worked straight away under Dell Wireless Manager (after enabling radio from this silly Enable / Disable app, lol)
- Installed XP driver for TV tuner - it works fine. However, I get really bad signal quality in my area Better antenna would definitively help.
- GMA500 driver from Windows Update is a must have. Stability is perfect and 2D performance is OK for a 'normal' tasks. On the other hand, 3D performance is extremely embarrassing (it would be really hard to find anything slower than this 'accelerator')'. It is sufficient for Google Earth (unless you turn 3d buildings on :)), but forget about any 3D games. Aero works, but it is somewhat slow/choppy and rather not usable
True power of GMA500 is DXVA video acceleration (it is a feature which is not present on any other Intel's graphics chip).
- regarding video playback: SD works absolutely fine, but H.246 720p is not really smooth and audio is out of sync. You can fix it by using hardware acceleration provided by GMA500. Install CCCP pack and configure MPC-HC according to this instructions: ]http//nu…va/
This allows smooth 720p playback (CPU usage is around 30%) if video is encoded with compatible profile (4.1 or lower for H.264, if I recall correctly). I haven't tested it with 1080p yet (the only 1080p video I have is not compatible with DXVA acceleration :/)
EDIT: If you don't need any advanced rendering features (subtitles, etc) forget about MPC-HC. On Windows 7, Windows Media Player with built-in GMA500 hardware accelerated ‘Microsoft DTV-DVD Video Decoder’ plays 1080p H.264 (even profile version 5.1) videos flawlessly - and CPU usage is only about 40%.

Don't necessarily be put off as it does seem to play 720p but it doesn't perform as well as standard netbooks with n270 chips in pretty much all the reviews (there are quite a lot of them). Personally I would love the higher res screeen, plus wireless n (noticed you have to pay £15 extra for this), HDMI out and 3g (though given my phone is 3g I would prefer to connect that to the PC as I can then have just the one 3g internet tariff and use it either on my phone or laptop). On the negative no full HD (could not expect that for the money though) and generally less power performance that standard netbooks. Overall for the money it is a stonking buy + most of the review gave around 70% - 80% ratings when it was over £400 and that was only a few months ago.
Oh and for the person wanting to know for sure what TV tuner its a DVB-T
More pictures of the 6 cell - apparently give 5-6 hours usage:

It's definitely made me think twice, but I find my Mini 9 battery runs out all too quickly, so I think I'll give it a go. Hope it still fits in the Belkin cover though!
Just generic drives, no reason they shouldn't be fine, pretty basic item.
thanks. repped for tking time to look.
have had a few pointers from someone on misc as i just need to access a CD i reckon. so gonna buy a basic external CD drive from ebay for less than a tenner!
You might want o get a DVD drive instead (also reads CDs) - almost all software is on DVD now.
Hello Maria. Yes the 15th October is the date on my order acknowledgement too but i got the impression it could be sooner from the customer services on the phone
When you place an order, the company, Dell in this case, request the money from your payment method - CC or DD. *If* this is authorised by your bank, then Dell are happy and the money is ring fenced in your account.
You can call your bank and they can confirm that X amount is ring fenced, sometimes they can tell by whom, othertimes not.
From previous experiences that *I* have had with Dell, 4 purchases, I notice that they *never* take the money until the item has been dispatched, safe in the knowledge that your bank has promised they will get it (authorised).
Dell are at liberty, even after they have authorised an amount to be ring fenced from your account, to state that there was a misprice and frop the authorisation on your account.
If your bank statement shows quite clearly that Dell have *taken* the money from your account then that is game-set-and match. They *must* honour the deal.

Now I'm sad twice cos I don't get my 6 cell battery and linkup101 gets all the sympathy from the cute cat magicbeans!!! :-(
Thanks for the hug, needed it (it's rough out there).
Keep one battery ready to go while you use the other one.
I'm sure there's enough hugs to go around on hotukdeals :friends:
Dell have a 14 day sale on different items at the moment.
Picking the same spec as we have above I believe it comes to £358.99.
It is a wonderful site, with many wonderful differing prices.
If you go through the 'Hot Deals!' link on the front page (N00M1001) exactly the same box will cost you mentioned £414.00
It is pretty crazy...
I'll I've got is the "phase 3" notice, no confirmation email , my reserve funds have been released and don't even have Quidco. I called twice to chase up my confirmation email and was told it'd be resent but it never did.
I'm not overly concenred though, the last time I had dealings with Dell was for the £99 Mini 9 and that just disappeared from my account within 48 hours, the fact it's still showing with an estimated delivery is pretty good I think.
I just can't see Dell building my Mini 10, getting to dispatch stage and then suddenly realising it's a misprice (if that's what is was in the first place).
Exact same situation as me - I even emailed them to send me my .pdf confirmation but got back a standard response that it was being processed.
]]Order status query
Then click on 'E-Mail' Under the 'Order Status Query'
Then just click on the 'Reason for your mail' drop down box and select 'Order Status Query'
You should then be able to enter your IR receipt number & email address and get the status.
(Fingers crossed!!)
"5.4 Delivery will take place less than 30 days after the date of Order unless specifically otherwise agreed at the time of making the Order.
5.5 If the estimated delivery date cannot be met and the revised delivery date will exceed 30 days from the original date of order then Consumer will be contacted & advised of a proposed new date for delivery. If Consumer refuses the revised delivery date and delivery is not made within 30 days from the original date of order or prior to the specifically agreed delivery date if applicable, then Consumer may cancel the order without charge & obtain a full refund. "
If you want to cancel you can, and hey there's a new deal for a Samsung N130 with a 6 cell battery just come up at Ebuyer for £239.98.
I will be getting the Virgin one after 2 months as I already have broadband from them they only charge £5 a month for 1GB which seems ok. You can use PAYG, some only charge £1 per day etc which is good if you only use it every now and then
Oh Dell have also handed over my details so Voda can now give me calls, text messages and emails about their lovely service. I sometimes get lonely so it's nice to get the odd text message ;-)
The Voda sim is located under the battery of the netbook.
Still no laptop! I am giving up now I think - this must be karma because I gave a donkey the finger on Sept 23rd!
just need drivers for the wwan and tv - but i think ferple may have the answers...
incidentally, does everyones lid close all the way or does the keyboard touch the screen?
For the WWAN, Windows 7 popped up and recommended I download drivers from Dell - gave the link to the FTP site and everything. Installed those (they may be the same as the XP drivers on the Dell US site) and it seems to install the drivers OK, but I've not tried the actual 3g-ness yet. Will let you know.
For other driver info, my previous post has some details: hotukdeals.com/ite…874
You never get the whole 160Gig showing up anyway due to overheads, but the hidden partitions with diagnostics and a ghost of the OS is taking up most of that missing space.
en.wikipedia.org/wik…ive
Plus, I didn't look but I wager there will be a 10GB partition hidden with the backup image on it. i.e. you balls up and it will copy this image over your installation, giving you the same PC you first bought.
Well you probably want a PAYG sim with an allowance that doesn't expire each month - I think Vodafone do this at the moment - ask someone in a mobile phone shop. I use a "3" sim card because its cheap but the allowance expires after 30 days.
- Simon.
Rather simple process:

HDMI male to male DVI is correct.
