    People seem to be missing the point of these devices...
    They are not meant to be running in full desktop mode really, I think they are aimed at the metro side of things... Let windows handle the memory management, like 'other' tablets...
    Run it in desktop mode, with office 365 and netflix and a few browser tabs open, and yes, it bound to struggle!
    But for the casual user, running mainly in metro, these will be fine, and extremely good value.

    Don't forget, what Win8 lacks in dedicated apps, it can more often than not make up for with a properly fully featured browser, complete with flash.

    Good price. Much improved screen over past HP tablets.

    But Windows on a tablet of this spec? Your right with one thing.... recreational it will not be. Not once ounce of fun or enjoyment will be wrung from using this. Once it's sat there with it's AV running and trying to constantly update in the background and then you as the user has the need to actually run an application...... stutter, stutter, wait, wait, wait, wait, give up.

    I think (from memory) that Microsoft stated 7" tablets can only have 1GB RAM maximum, just like the netbooks of years ago so as not to cannibalise upselling to larger devices. But 1GB on Windows 8 32-bit probably isn't all that big a deal really and it's so cheap, they have to cut corners somewhere, full Windows costs nearly that price on its own without the hardware included.

    Wondering if these are any better than the Linx 7 tablets on ebuyer? There is no cashback for this one though.
    Couldn't find any reviews except for some preview videos on Youtube as this isa new tablet.

    No, that is a 'Connect' model. Pretty much all have the same specs, hence the price point.

    Yes, this tablet is part of the Stream Laptops/Tablets from HP, MS is trying hard to get a slice from chromebook and cheap android tablet market with Stream and Linx. HP Stream 14 is already on sale on HP UK store,though the price is bit steep at £229. Hopefully these will drop the prices for Xmas to below £200.

    It doesn't, the video decoding is pretty solid actually these days (depending on the codec and bitrate) - for your normal movies and streaming you should be fine.

    There have been some God awful tablets in the past. I've never had one of those with a tank of petrol. I dont expect one of these will ever be given away either.

    Arrived this morning and have been playing with it for the last hour or so. Sweet!

    Recommended if you want something small and light that can also run full Windows Apps In fact even if you just want Windows 8 native Apps it is great value for the money.

    (Be sure and check out my own 'Vantage Point' App, still a little ragged around the edges but getting there!)

    "HP4OFF" 4% voucher code doesn't seem to be working now. Looks like HP have twigged that the code was being used on this - one of their least expensive products - and never intended it to be used for this, so it's been withdrawn. Pity. I'm still tempted, but the extra 4% would have made the temptation overwhelming! T&Cs currently read:

    Purchased one over the weekend and am extremely happy and surprised of how much technology there is in just £99! HP and Microsoft have done a fantastic job on both hardware and software side together.

    Cannot express how good the deal is, specially when it comes with 1Yr of Office 365 for the user to use totally free!! Also I believe the subscription allows the Office365 software/services to be used on another computer also which the value of that alone is more than double the £99 value itself.

    The hardware you get is not exactly anything amazing and the screen has slight light bleeding on darker pictures however hardly noticeable and again for £99 one cannot fault it.

    Also if you sign in first as an adult with your Microsoft account then as your child with their Microsoft account and mark it as a child account Windows 8.1 will send you reports of what they have been doing which makes it perfect Christmas gift.
