Was this any good? Played the first 2 plenty of times and loved them as a kid however life selfishly got in the way of me playing this one

    honestly no.
yu suzuki should have ended the trilogy with this, instead he made a stop gap game which didnt have the charm of the first 2 and didnt have the chops to compete with modern games

just a bad game overall, especially because the yakuza series does it all better

I'm currently playing through 2 on PS4, I played the originals circa 2004. 1 + 2 are amazing, and all the history and lore that is related to the world of Shenmue is intriguing.

I keep checking out videos of Shenmue 3 , and yes I can tell that it isn't going to be the same level of sophistication and charm as the originals. Even the Lucky Hit ball dropping game looks completely inferior in Shenmue 3. I also think the art direction and character models are not correct, nor is the awkward camera angle.

But it is still Shenmue 3 and better than nothing. The fishing game looks cool, and having to eat items for energy is cool, and hopefully Shenmue 4 is different.

To be honest, there should be a "Shenmue-a-like game genre". Doesnt have to be set in Japan or China. I expect the tools required to make something like the first two games are much cheaper now.
