this is excellent spec for the money. I recently put something together with near identical specs and it cost me £650 alone in parts!

to be fair can't really compare it to the Carrera one as that was retailing at £270

Ha! Yes, I noticed his comments and got a bit excited...but it was £412.90 delivered after all - still excellent value though and I was still a bit excited

I've just found out that 'Supersonic' on that thread is a tester for What Mountain Bike mag...I'm guessing he knows a thing or two about bikes!

Great bike for the price! Heat added.
But it is 50% more expensive (£143 to be exact) than the Carrera!

Wow, looks like a good deal. Also, the Bike Outlet are covered under cyclescheme.co.uk

Also, how come there are only 18 gears on this? I'm a bit of a noob, but am trying to learn. I was under the impression that 'normally' you expect at least 24-27. Why only the 2 cogs on the front? Thx in advance.

27 gears is a bit of marketing ploy to be honest. Having nine on the back is OK so you don't have to change the front often. I use my large front ring 95% of the time and only use my middle ring very occasionally, I've never used my granny ring since I bought my 27 speed bike and I live in Derbyshire where we have quite a few hills.

Read this...you shouldn't use all of the gears anyway.
