Nintendo DS Game inserted the wrong way in game slot, now won't workI

I purchased a Nintendo DS for my 5 year old daughter, but after about 1 week she put the game in the wrong way in the game slot.

We got the game out ok and when we insert another game now, it keeps saying please insert game or something of that nature. As it was only about two weeks old I returned it to Nintendo for repair, but the have just sent me a letter to say it will cost £53.85 and that the fault is Pin Connector DS slot defect

I can a) not believe it would cost so much and b) why the DS in not designed so you can only enter the game one way.

Does anyone know if you need a special tool to take them to bits as I have asked them to return it un-repaired as I am not paying that!!

It will only need the pins adjusting slightly i think so if I can take it to bits should be able to sort it ok

Can you let me know of any websites to give me the information to dismantle or a special tool that I will need.

    Oh and my 3 year old done that with hers too but it was fine when we took out the cartridge.

    I would try takingback to shop first as already suggested, we had two of ours replaced instore no problem.

    wow that is a lot, suprising from nintendo too, last year my little one decided to use our wii as a money box and it couldn't be used after that. I phoned nintendo and they sent out a return sticker and repaired it and sent it back for free (including a bag with a couple of pennies in that they retrieved).

    also suprised my 5yr old hasn't the same thing to mine yet ;-)

    If you only recently bought it I would definetly send it back, raise an issue with amazon telling them that it keeps asking for the game to be inserted even tho its in and ask what to do. I'd imagine they would tell you to send it back for a replacement.

    I dunno about anyone else but I've never had a problem getting a replacement from Amazon.

    same happended to my GFs,new game slots are about £8 but they have to be soldered on which put me off repairing hers

    The slot is soldered to the board. To get at the pins you will need a soldering iron and the job is very fiddly..just a warning. You can get replacement slot-1's on ebay but you will still need to solder it on.. tricky if not confident with soldering.

    Just called Amazon, Really nice chap I spoke to. What customer service!!

    He said i could order another one whilst we were on the phone and he would alter the price to 0.00 and ship it first class. I would then need to send the other one back to them and was going to send me the details of what I needed to do.

    How much!!! My daughter is almost 4 so i just got her a M3 simply thing and let her use that, no taking out involed!!! oh and no costs!!

    Yeah I've never had a problem with them, had an issue with GTA, sent it back to them, waited for a couple of days nothing appeared, had to phone them again, they were very apologetic, said they were very sorry and sent out another one, I reckon my postie nicked the first one, knowing that he'd delivered something similar the couple of days before, or someone at the sorting office.

    But anyways they sent me 2 replacements and just asked me to send 1 back if the other arrived, but it didnt. I would have sent it back to them tho especially with how good they were with me.

    agreed amazon have brilliant customer services _ bought a George Foreman from them once and the handle broke, they just sent me another one and didnt bother colleting the faulty one
