Also, if you buy now, you get Spectre of Torment campaign for free on the 3rd and I think they're removing the requirement to complete the game to access Plague Knight's campaign, but from the 3rd the price goes up to reflect the size of the game...

Wii u has co op mode if you have the amiibo.

And without amiibo from next weeks update.
doitcom348
If I buy this now, will it transfer to my Switch?

No
To make anyone's minds up, WiiU version has two player mode coming (sans amiibo) next week, 3DS does not.

Voted Cold. This isn't much a deal. Plenty of places sell it cheaper.
Might have seen it on mynintendo a while ago as a 'just for you' offer. think it was the same discount from memory.

Anyway yeah its in the eshop and is cheap I guess if your looking to buy It digitally but I always go physical unless its very cheap like the atlus games on there. (look for the old post of mine)

Unnecessarily cold but thats hukd atm. Thanks Dinomartyr

I'ts under the standard sales tab on the 3ds, so I don't think so. When I checked on my PC I wasn't logged in and it showed the same price.
Think you need to be registered on mynintendo to get discount

Pretty much the steel case.
whats the difference between steel book and normal ones?
I bought Sun on release to take with me on a trip and lost my 3DS without playing the game, it's been hard to stomach forking out for it again but this is a good deal for the steelbook which at least is better than the one I had.

The joke never went over my head, it's a weird joke for a child's toy.
I don't typically buy kids toys but my 4 year old enjoys Yoshi and Mario games and Poochy was featured in woolly world.
I'd like to get him this but there is no rush, therefore. Will this discontinue and is it rare or merely referred to in such a way to make a joke.
Christ people on here can be difficult sometimes.
Heh, aint being difficult, you said a lot in one sentence.
But to go back to the question at hand its unknown as to how rare it will be, people said the chibi robo one would be rare, but that is for sale today at a very reduced rate to what it originally cost.
Some Nintendo items sell out quick, others not so much - I suspect this will be available at a lower price in years to come.
and yes, it was an unusual joke and I don't condone it
Sorry for going off on one. Long day.
I'm looking to purchase this game again and this bundle seems the best price but I'm not interested in the amiibo. Would you want it for £10 +postage

I would give you £10 + postage for it :)
Back up to £44.99, bundle is reduced on Amazon.fr but is for their Prime members only. Amiibo can be bought separately on Amazon.fr or Amazon.de, it'll probably be about £20 including shipping. Haven't seen the amiibo for sale in the UK but I assume it'll be coming.

Usual Nintendo reverse thinking applies methinks. The chibi robo one never shifted well until it was heavily discounted + because the game's a lame duck but that didnt stop what appears to be a billion sets being made. This though I think will sell more initally which of course means nintendo wont put out many after that. I'd probably get it sooner rather than later just in case. And fwiw I be surprised if it ever dropped to chibi prices.

[quote=Johnny_boy][quote=SDLiam] Even at this price im not biting on this sub par metroid title.
This is actually a ridiculously well designed and content filled game... just don't buy it if you're expecting Metroid Prime or a single player game. As far as team based games though, this game is ace. Should've been a Switch game really imo, this got sent out to die.
no I know what its like. I stand by my comment. its basically a 'keep em happy' title without much guts to it that they threw out quickly and this is reflected in the falling price. The metroid franchise needs a massive reboot but until nintendo get some fresh blood at the top, it wont happen.

Solid price, bought this for 14.99 for the collection. I wish they'd do a modern Super Metroid like Zelda 3ds.
I would also love that. I know that Metroid Fusion was ambassador only, but I would love for that to be added to the 3DS eshop.
0% chance of gba games coming to the 3ds eshop sadly. Even at this price im not biting on this sub par metroid title.

Just a heads up. Just picked up my copy from the Swansea store and it looks preowned. Not sure if Smyths do the annoying Game thing of opening cases and sealing them with their own sticker as this one had been, plus case looked nowhere near new. Its the cheapest Ive seen it new or preowned so Im happy, just for others to know.
oh man, no afaik smyths dont do preowned games. Whenever I have bought games from them the games have been sealed. (I always c+c not sure if that matters)

They do always have shelf stock but from memory i cant remember if they are sealed games or empty cases that you take to the till. I suppose if they were low on stock theyd grab one of those and add a cartridge to it to fulfill the order? cant think of anything else sorry.

No apology necessary fella; I'm not a collector so once complete it'll wing it's way to the glorious Cex!!

Just looked on their site £16.99 for wii sports!! cex have put up the price of wii sports in sleeve from £5 to £12... looks like the wii will soon be collectable.

I thought I would be a year or two before people started collecting hardcore for the wii. All I see 2nd hand gamewise out and about are wii games and of course ps2 games. Probably smart to start picking up titles now but I already have a mountain of stuff!
JonDOnnis
Cold because it is musicmagpie, and they kill the market for independent sellers on Ebay and Amazon marketplace.
They have a few different names, buy the games dirt cheap, and drive prices down.
hey, calm down i've not stolen your cat. I know its mis on occasion being an independant anything but I dont work for them. + lower priced games? thats terrible, who would want that. (_;) I'll just grab my placard, give me a min you get a chant going.

great 2D platformer, proper old school nintendo, but the amiibo is completely pointless. I topped up my score to it multiple times but never bothered using... whatever it was that it added. The game is easy, and enjoyable, great for kids too, not too stressful etc.

Amiibo on 2ds needs an nfc reader
Whats one of them .
My son has 3ds daughter has 2ds
You need to know, the game will play on both 3ds and 2ds. If you want to use the amiibo, you either need to have a 3ds that supports it or you need an extra component which is called nfc reader and helps using the amiibo in-game.
ah, I can only type so quick on my blackberry.
That was pretty quick anyway. :D

the new3ds models come with nfc built in but if you want to use Amiibos with the other models you will need an nfc reader to read them so to speak. The nfc reader is sold seperately.

Now thinking I should grab Monster Hunter 4 for £15 at Asda. They have a few copies in my local, hmm...
Get it. It dropped to £14 new at one point (posted on here) last year and people foamed for it. It isnt for everyone but then MH never has been (at least in the west) only one way to find out! unless theres a demo on the eshop? cant remember.

Luckily im a new3ds owner so the extra nub was handy for MH4U not sure how 3ds xl owners found playing?

No, im pretty sure this is as cheap as its been.
Even tesco are confused as to what fits, ds xl should read dsi xl but anyway. Pretty sure if it takes the 3dsxl it will take both new models as well. So everything bar the phat.
There is a big size difference between a ds lite - 3dsxl so i suspect its not the greatest fit. cool stylus choices though.
It's been £9.99 in game just before Christmas, still kicking myself for not picking one up.
Strangely enough in my local game it's £14.99 and £17.99 both at the same time depending on if you pick up the left or right one lol.
classic game. It wasnt posted on here at a tenner though was it? I'm pretty sure I would have spotted it and am a bit miffed I didnt jump on it if so.

I should add that this accessory is almost the only way you can charge and play in table top mode @ the same time as the charge port is located just underneath.
I say almost because im sure you could fashion it standing on books either side etc if your a cheap cheapo :{
Is this stand the best way to play the switch and the 2ds at the same time?
Cold due to Flamedeer hoarding.
Yazoo1990
Don't get the idea of this. So it just lets you play your switch at different angles?
What about the kickstand?

When it's on the kickstand you aren't able to charge it as the charge port is on the bottom, this would be useful on the plane/train if you have a portable charger you can still plug it in.

Will this run on a 2DS? All I hear is great things about them.
Yes 100%. If you look in the bottom right corner of the box art there's your confirmation.
You will need to buy a NFC reader though for a 2DS (if don't already have one) for the Amiibo Cards to be of any use.

All those cards look amazing. I'm really looking forward to the online capability of these sports. Horse Racing looks insanely fun! :)
Bonus of being able to play family members. Hopefully they made tennis more playable than their recent tennis efforts. The whole package looks amazing and typical Nintendo!
The cards do look amazing and Nintendo did this brilliant with Animal Crossing Happy Home Designer which is a brilliant game which kids get totally immersed into. However as I found out with that game it gets a bit annoying buying packs of random cards, getting duplicates, and the cost soon starts to stack up.
For those reasons only I am skipping this game. Buying random packs, blind bags for figures etc is one of my pet hates. I know is not just Nintendo, even Lego do it too, just hate it though.
EDIT: PS the many volumes (5 ?) of Animal Crossing cards also each had an optional Collectors Album book released, RRP £11 I think it was. I am prepared to bet my house on there also being Collectors Album books being released shortly for Mario Sports Superstars :)
I have a 3DSXL. And yes I agree. I'll get one pack to be left with one for each sport and leave it at that I think :)

ah the usual to and fro of a 2ds posting. The 3d feature is no gimmick, it works on the new models really well. Even the mighty moi doesnt utilise it all the time but some games shine brighter with the feature on.

off the top of my head Pilotwings (which a lot of latecomers to the 3ds might not grab as It was an early release title) is better with the 3d on and is pretty fun for under a tenner (used) Mario 3d land I also thought benefited from the 3d being turned on.

For the record I did reply to comment #34, and have been out for the last 7hrs, but highly frustratingly it seems a few posts have been removed, and I can guess why, as the form book shows the insults start to fly sooner and later from a particular 2DS user, when one dares to highlight some of the many numerous issues with the 2DS. Apparently it is better to just not give people looking at deal threads balanced information to help with a purchase decision. Any hoo am glad to be out of this silly thread now.

FYI I haven't reported any of your comments nor did I insult you in any of the (now deleted) comments. I suggest you grow a back bone.

The fact that you view your obsession with slating the 2DS as "balanced information" is hilarious.

The 2DS doesn't really have any issues.

It's cheap because:

1) No 3D. Your argument is you can disable it from the 3D models in settings. But why pay more just to do this?

2) Single screen and no hinge. The shell covers the screen and splits it in two but underneath there are not two screens.

That's about it. In fact it comes with a charger which the New 3DS models do not and a 4GB SD card when the original 3DS & 3DS XL come with a 2GB.

The buttons feel just as crisp as any of the other models. In fact they feel a lot better than the original models.

If you don't require the 3D, and want something to grip easily or don't fancy your young child with a hinged clam shell then it is a great option especially as it is available for a budget price. It's over 50% less than the new 3DS and even more than that when comparing to the new 3DS XL. You are talking about such a difference in cost you could get two of these for the price of one new 3DS. I expect many parents have chose this option.

It absolutely blows the original 3DS out the water in terms of battery life and ergonomics. That original model was awful to hold and the 3D was so bad.

Yes, the New 3DS model offers more features but I wouldn't say it's worth the price difference.

Care to elaborate on its flaws? Or are you going to retreat (again) once someone dare to challenge your bias.

Edited By: dtovey89 on Feb 08, 2017 07:53: .
There will be another one soon enough. We all look forward to reading your posts in the next threads!

Do you need to play the first game to appreciate this one?
All you need to know is there was some grinding.
You mean the second half of the game? ;)
Did think I might be caught in some sort of Groundhog Day when I got to that stage...then things felt very 'grindy'...loved the look and feel of the game but wonder if the sequel is just as much of a grind as the first? Does it really add much new to the gameplay apart from the story?

According to the IGN review it adds a new gameplay mechanic called second (or something like that), which allows you to either attack twice per turn and sit out a future attack, or store up and wait in the hopes to unleash a stronger attack later.

Something like that any way.

nintendo logoThe Nintendo 3DS in a Nutshell

The Nintendo 3DS has a wide range of new or improved features that its predecessor didn't have. These include the Nintendo Network powered SpotPass and StreetPass tag modes; augmented reality - enabled through its 3D cameras- as well as Virtual Console, a feature which allows for the downloading and playing of games which were originally released on older Nintendo video game systems. The Nintendo 3DS also comes pre-loaded with various other applications such as the Nintendo eShop - an online distribution store - an Internet Browser, YouTube, Netflix, and Hulu Plus video services, a social network service named Miiverse, Nintendo Video, a messaging application called Nintendo Letter Box (or Swapnote in the US and Asia), and the Mii Maker.

Nintendo 3DS: 3D Video Game Technology in a Handheld Console

Nintendo has been experimenting with stereoscopic 3D video game technology since the 1980s. The company has previous attempted to create consoles that utilised this form of technology, such as the Famicom 3D System, released in Japan in 1988, and the Virtual Boy, a portable, table-top version of the hugely popular Gameboy, which was released in 1995. Unfortunately, both of these devices were commercially unsuccessful due to the expense of the necessary technology.

The Nintendo GameCube, released in 2001, was another 3D capable system, but the appropriate peripheral technology at the time was too expensive for it to be utilised fully, so Nintendo never marketed its capabilities to the public. Only one game, Luigi's Mansion, was ever released using the GameCube's full 3D capacity.

In 2009, as speculation began to ramp up regarding the successor to the hugely popular Nintendo DS, the company had made significant progress in the development of 3D technology that was much more affordable for the consumer and commercially viable for Nintendo itself. When the Nintendo 3DS was first released in March 2011, sales were at first much slower than anticipated. So as a result, Nintendo slashed the price just six months after its released. This new pricing policy was a resounding success and within two years the Nintendo 3DS went on to become one of the company's most successful handheld devices ever.

Following the success of the 3DS, there have been several additions to the 3DS family. In July 2012, the Nintendo 3DS XL was released with a 90% larger screen, the "entry-level" Nintendo 2DS, which utilised similar technology and software though without the 3D capacity, was released in October 2013, and one year later they the New Nintendo 3DS, and an accompanying New Nintendo 3DS XL, featuring a more powerful CPU amongst various other features. The Nintendo 3DS family has so far sold over 61.57 million units worldwide, significantly more than its closest competitor in the handhelds market, Sony's PS Vita, and it looks set to remain a firm fixture in the video game world for some time to come.

The most crucial difference was that it lacked the signature Nintendo 3DS autostereoscopic 3D display.

Introducing the New Nintendo 3DS XL

Choosing the Best Nintendo 3DS System For You

When it comes to choosing which member of the Nintendo 3DS family is best for you, a host of considerations need to be made. The price is, naturally, one of the biggest considerations for most of us. Since the launch of the New Nintendo 3DS, the price of the original system has been cut by many retailers, so if you're counting the pennies, then this may be something to keep in mind.

If you're buying a system for children to use, then many parents are opting for the Nintendo 2DS. With less moving parts, the 2DS's tablet form means that it is more difficult to break than the hinge-based clamshell design of the 3DS, very valuable for parents concerned about over-excited children damaging the item.

If the 3D capability is the biggest draw of the Nintendo 3DS for you, then the New Nintendo 3DS (or 3DS XL), with its super stable 3D technology may be the best choice for you. It uses its front-facing camera to track the user's face and it automatically adjusts the 3D to the angle that the 3DS is in relation to your face. In practice, this improved 3D technology is far better than that of its predecessor and it has made it much easier to play games with the 3D turned on when you're on the move. Previously, it would have been difficult to use your 3DS with the 3D turned on if you were using it on a moving train or a public bus, for example. The 3DS capability is, of course, far from perfect and, because it is tracking the user's eye and head movement unless you hold it perfectly still, the 3D isn't quite spot on for those wearing glasses. Nonetheless, when it gets it right, the 3D is crystal clear and displays far richer colours than the original 3DS.

Screen Size Matters

Given that the XL versions of both the original Nintendo 3DS and the New Nintendo 3DS have the same features as their smaller counterparts, choosing between the regular sized and larger systems is mostly a matter of cosmetic tastes and of comfort.

Due to the fact that the XL version, by very definition, is larger, it has more room to space out the features and controls, meaning it could be more comfortable for many gamers to use. The stylus on the XL is longer and fatter, which again, could make it more user-friendly. If your hands are on the large side, the bigger form might also mean that it's easier for you to manage in general.

If it's looks and style that you're in search of, then the regular sized 3DS is by far the more aesthetically pleasing of the two system sizes, simply by being smaller and sleeker.

Probably the size that matters most, however, is the display screen size. When put next to each other, the XL looks enormous next to the regular Nintendo 3DS. The display size has no effect on the screen resolution. The image is simply stretched across a larger screen. This can be sometimes noticeable, in particular with text and 2D images. However, there is a pay off with the larger screens, in particular when playing polygonal games. When referring to the New Nintendo 3DS systems, the super stable 3D functionality looks much better on a larger screen.

Any Colour You Like

Colour is one of the most cosmetically distinctive and personal considerations for when it comes to selecting a 3DS system. All members of the Nintendo 3DS family have been produced in a wide range of colours. However, unless you're looking for a discontinued colour, a limited edition, or you're prepared to shell out the extra money paying for a Japanese import (Nintendo has produced by far the widest range of colours for the Japanese market), 3DS users in Europe are confined to a range of around five or six colour combinations, depending on which particular system it is. Naturally, this is a matter of personal taste. If you're not too fussed about the colour, of course, this leaves you open to finding a better deal.

Accessorise, Baby!

As one can imagine, there are plenty of accessories for all the different members of the Nintendo 3DS family. There is, of course, the usual line-up of cases, protectors, carriers, speakers, headphones, and wallets, as well as cleaning kits, which are probably worth buying, simply to save from, or at least delay, any future hassle from dust building up inside the system and dirt becoming engrained on the buttons or screen.

Nintendo 3DS vs. Sony PlayStation Vita

Every big brand needs its arch rival, especially in the world of video games. In the 1980s, it was the Commodore 64 vs. the ZX Spectrum. In the 1990s, it was the Super Nintendo vs. the Sega Megadrive. For the Nintendo 3DS, their closest rival is the Sony PS Vita. The chances are, if you play a handheld video game today, it'll be either the 3DS or the PS Vita. So, how do you choose between the two? Here's a handy guide of the technical specifications of the PS Vita:

  • Height: 84mm
  • Length: 182mm
  •
Depth: 19mm
  •
Weight: 279g
  •
Display: 960 x 544 @ 221 ppi
  •
Processor: ARM cortex A9 Quad-core 800Mhz
  •
Graphics: Quad-core
 33m polygons per second

  • RAM: 512MB

  • Storage: PS Vita card (not included)

  • Wireless: WiFi 3G and WiFi

  • Battery life: 3.5 hours
  •
Backwards compatibility: Digital only

As you can see, while the Nintendo 3DS is lighter and smaller, meaning it's more portable, the PlayStation Vita has a sharper display, more processing power, better graphics and more RAM. However, the real deal-breaker here for many could be the issue of backwards compatibility. For PS Vita owners, if you want to transfer your favourite game, it'll mean having to buy a new digital copy. That's not so with the Nintendo 3DS. Also, the PS Vita contains no internal storage and the special storage card must be bought separately, meaning the Vita incurs additional costs.

It's also worth bearing in mind that the two systems are aimed at different audiences. The PlayStation Vita is more geared towards hardcore gamers, whereas the Nintendo 3DS has many more child-friendly games. Having said that, adults will also find plenty of fun games for the Nintendo 3DS.

Where to Buy

 the Nintendo 3DS

There is a whole host of places where you can buy a Nintendo 3DS both in-store and online. Most of the biggest names in retail including Amazon, Curry's, Argos, John Lewis, and, of course, the Nintendo Store itself. Especially ones that are as popular as the Nintendo 3DS, so it's definitely worth having a shop around before you make an actual purchase, just to make sure you get the best deal that you possibly can.

When to Buy

If you know where to look, you can pretty much always find really good deals on Nintendo 3DS systems, whatever time of year it is. There are, however, particular times of year that are better than others. It goes without saying that you can find a good bargain on a handheld device like the 3DS during the January Sales. But the best time to pick up a Nintendo 3DS for a huge discount is the last weekend of November when the international shopping phenomenon that is Black Friday arrives. Black Friday hails the beginning of a weekend long orgy of price slashing on top-of-the-range goods and products of all and every kind. That weekend, which finishes with Cyber Monday, marks the semi-official start of the Christmas shopping period. During this time, in late November and onwards, retailers are all competing for your cash. This makes it the perfect time to get a 3DS at a dramatically reduced price.
