Same price in Argos http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/1665956.htm
The Canon gets 69% vs the 71% of the Sony from Which.co.uk.
With that said, the audio quality would seem to be better on the Canon. Video quality would seem to be about the same. The Sony has WiFi, whereas the Canon has a bigger screen and (more importantly for me), high bitrate MP4 video recording (no messing about with AVCHD files).
Personally, having owned Sony stuff in the past, I would choose the Canon. WiFi is a gimmick - and I bet the menu system is much better on the Canon.
Unless Amazon Prime Day pull something out of the bag
I also looked at the Sony, there were a few more bad reviews for it on amazon and the Canon had a touch screen and better quality apparently, so went with the canon.
You can get that Sony for just over £100 with the 15% off Warehouse Dealshttp://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-listing/B00HR684TY/ref=sr_1_4_olp?m=A2OAJ7377F756P&s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1436949967&sr=1-4&condition=used
True, but used models. I think the Canon is better from what I read anyway. Thank you though,

The Sony HDR CX330 (older model to CX407) has dropped in price to £150 which is actually a better than the Canon and Sony cx240 http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/2620213.htm

Vivitar Waterproof Digital camcorder / camera - £12.60 @ BrandedValue eBay

Can't comment on the picture quality but the box says 12mp and the camera setting says 12 too. Not used it yet apart from dunking it in our pond to see what was like underwater. As for the video, the sound isn't great but underwater picture was ok, so will do for the water slides and good value even if it only ever gets used at water parks or the beach.
Has anyone received there's and can tell me if its def 12 megapixel for taking photos as on the vivitar website says its 5mp.
I got it to take to a water park for a cheap way of getting pics without risking anything expensive. For £12 I was happy with it and can now take some fun pics on the slides. Wouldn't want to be spending loads on a camera I may only use for 1 day at the park
Ordered thanks op, it has to work, fingers crossed, going to take it to the cote d'azur and take some snaps will post when I come home hahaahahahahaha

Whilst I was making up my mind yesterday, I thought it wouldn't harm to reserve one.
Then this morning I decided to go for it but when I went to collect it, it had gone up to £139.99. Luckily I had the reservation which they obviously had to honor.
I thought it was a good deal. Argos clearly thought it was a bit too good too!
Good reviews on Amazon. Not sure you can go too far wrong at that price.

Was very tempted by this deal but I'm now leaning towards the Canon that Argos are selling for £129.99.
I've started a seperate thread Canon HF-R506 to see what people think but, as far as I can tell, for £10 more you are adding a touchscreen, Optical Image Stabilisation and a built in lens cover.
I had hell of a job getting this to PCI to edit, where my daughters Panasonic came with the software to do all that. Having said that, the quality of footage on this is very good. Hot from me.
Don't forget to check the price of additional batteries. I bought a panasonic awhile back and the spare batteries are £37 each.
Comment[quote=mohsinfarroq]Amazon is selling cheaper then this deal,

Amazon is £122.55 I'm just glad I didn't go to the same school as you when it came to maths X)
Anyone know the battery life of this? Can it record for 3 hours straight for example? And if I choose say a 720p setting, what's the average file size looking like?

This has a 110° field of view. You're not going to be capturing "action" in any great detail with such a wide (and for sixty quid, not great quality) lens. So I doubt that any FPS figure makes much difference to the quality of the video your record. Even if it *did* record at a nominal 60FPS (or 200FPS) all the limitations of the camera would not make that video "better".
1920 x 1080 pixels (30 fps) so not great, I bet the bitrate is crap to, you'd be better off using your mobile phone than this.
Not sure why you would think that 30 fps is not great. UK TVs use 25 fps and movies 24 fps.

Absolutely GOOD point Jefft!

Got mine yesterday, really happy with it. In terms of mounts, yes they do seem expensive but its got a standard tripod screw adapter so should be easier to pick them up where as i think the as30v you had to use the waterproof case to put it on a screw mount?

Anyone know of a decent dog harness that could be used, ive looked at the official one but is it worth the money?
Due back in stock April 9
Thanks for posting Subterranean, I have ordered one of these.

Adidas Addict
I have the previous model AS30v and while it produces really good quality hd footage, mounts are a pain or expensive. So in summary if you know how you're gonna mount it or are prepared to pay for the official sony mounts then go for it, otherwise go for a gopro.

I've also bought an adapter from eBay for this camera to use GoPro mounts, I searched for GoPro Adapter sony 100v.

This is a good price, I paid about £20 for one of these. I would be wary of the build quality though, after a few months of use the plastic on one of the socket joints split and now the leg keeps popping off. Kind of annoying, but was great up until then.

Not sure why anyone who wants to film in 1080p HD video would leave any naff reviews, about the resolution of the video taken? 1080p is 1080p no matter what you use, yes the 4x digital zoom is not 60x digital zoom, but this is thirty quid, not 200!
Use a decent sdcard [class 10] in it, format the card in the camera, not on a pc/mac and away you go, also have a jvc version that was about 120 more, from memory and as already stated, the lower end version of this vivitar range we have used to make bank from... filming in 1080p!
Anyway, also managed to get one, so when it comes, can have a play ;-)

it may be 1080p but if its through a tiny and rubbish lens then it will not contain any more picture detail than a lower resolution recording. also will have a tiny sensor so cannot absorb as much light per pixel so the picture will be more grainy.

if you zoom it will not be 1080p either as its digital. at 4x zoom it becomes 540p (1080=2.1mp divide by 4 = 0.52mp)

probably ok for £30 to let the kids have a play though

dont need class 10 card either, class 4 will work fine with this
looking at video from this its fairly poor quality yes its 1080p but seen far better 720p footage
Its really just cheap toy ok s to for kids to play with
Pointless really as most phones now have vastly superior video than this
On plus side its cheap looks and handles like camcorder

And what sort of a budget would you be looking at for a 2 cam set up?
These are ok only. I have three and all three have developed problems and have been replaced by Ycam (their customer service is fairly good so if there is a problem, they do replace it). Imagine quality is not HD as it depends largely on their cloud service. Sometimes the picture is great, other's is below SD as it struggles with bandwidth. IR can be great if you don't have any reflective things in the room. Mirror's, Shiny metal lamps etc do make it bouce and you are left with spots.

Why use it? It's easier to setup than the cheaper DIY solutions. That's about it. If you are a bit savy, get a regular IP camera, download your own apps and have it save to your NAS/Cloud. It's the same thing.

perfect for dashcam

yes if you and the on-coming car are travelling at 5mph or less!
Judging by the quality of a higher spec model I had for £10 instead of £50, I would want this if someone bought it for me even at this price, appalling quality I don't know how they are allowed to sell this garbage!

Can't c the point, as most people have camera mobile's, just install Skype, saves u wasting £2!
Skype on a phone is absolute fail.
you must have a £2 phone

Yes that's....totally it. It isn't at all of course because someone tried to add me on it, and absolutely nothing happened. So they tried again. And nothing happened. Then I come back to my desktop the next morning to find 2 invites from that person on proper Skype. Which is actually still crap compared to MSN. Suppose I should expect that for having a £6.50 computer...

You must be trolling if you think MSN is better then Skype how old are you ten?

Received mine today, had a good play about with it and thoroughly satisfied, it's in a completely different league to my cheapo tripod (admittedly this also means it's bigger and heavier, so the old one may get kept for occasional travel use). Only initial negative - legs were really stiff, but instructions stated how to adjust this, and the required allen keys are even supplied, so soon sorted :)

A case or bag would have been nice too, but now I'm just being picky lol (anyone any suggestions on suitable tripod cases/bags???)

Also, with regard to the blog stating the leg locks snapped, perhaps they had been overtightened as the instructions specifically state not to tighten the screw more than 45°
i can say that I am very happy with the quality of the tripod. If i was a professional, I would spend hundreds more though. Only makes sense.
One obscure blog isn't gonna put me off, if it were that bad the internet and reviews would be full of complaints, rather than being generally positive. That aside, I don't really care as this is a world apart from the terrible cheap flimsy thing I currently own :D

Edited By: JDPower on Feb 16, 2015 20:47
If that's the case perhaps they overtightened them, which could have led to the failure described.
So one person decides to blog about a product failure. After looking at several budget tripods, despite the professional tags that get thrown about. I'd say this is better than most and certainly great value compared to some others I've seen.
If I have any complaints, I've had to tighten my leg locks upon unboxing. They do advise this would be required and allen keys are also supplied to do so.
I'd say that the blog above was unfortunate or they'd been a little clumsy with the tripod in transit. Every product can break. Full metal construction or carbon fibre would cost a lot more.

Can this camcorder be used with computer for live streaming using for example "adobe flash live media encoder"?
It doesn't have Firewire so probably not.
No, if it’s anything like my Panasonic HC-V720 or any other camcorder made in the past 6 years or so. I’m also on the search for such a thing. If you find anything, get in touch.

It's hard to complain about the price, even if I would much rather put the money toward something much better. I love Nitsan Simantov's reviews, he is a steadicam/glidecam clone master, even though you have to keep in mind that most reviewers depend to some extent on some companies sending them products to review in expectation of some consideration of that free service in the review, itself. Still, Nitsan seems more honest/thorough than many and said in the above that he purchased it for review.

My favourite review of similar by him is this one, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CnB0vZVldmk but without the arm, which I can't justify at this point. Even if he is a master, the results are exceptional. I think the greatest problem with these cheaper Chinese clones is consistency between samples, that some are fairly easy to take apart, clean out and put decent oil in and adjust/minimise the friction, some are next to impossible. Some are a nightmare to balance before a job/project, others much less so.
I can see now, you are right :), my bad

that's the 40cm model, this ones 60cm. as I said £80 is about the cheapest you can get this one
macobrum

that's the 40cm version though. I wouldn't buy from ebay as you cant return it at will if its no good. amazon return policy all the way, no risk then
Schizophonic
Interesting. Any reviews of this?
All the reviews are from Amazon.com - none from the UK. The seller quotes 7 - 23 days delivery to the UK, so it sounds like a generic chinese product that is shipped from there.

I'm sure that less than 1% of owners do anything interesting enough to make it worthwhile.

Maybe its the people who don't own them that don't do anything interesting enough to make getting one worthwhile??

Personally, I'd still order from Banggood - guaranteed genuine stock. Really good customer service.

Apart from the fact that Banggood are selling fakes (and they know about it)

Just received one from Banggood UK warehouse. Ordered item SKU159015 which is supposed to be the genuine one. They sell another one, which they describe as non-genuine, but I think they have mixed their stocks now.

Latest official firmware (January 2015) does not work on it. Camera cannot connect to the Android app. App is requesting a firmware upgrade, but latest official firmware just bricks the camera.

Moreover, [OK] button no longer works after firmware upgrade/downgrade, which is, according to the manufacturer, a clear indication that the camera is fake.

See http://www.sjcam.com/en/content/17-fake-ones-sjcam-the-ok-button-ok-function-now-makes-the-down-arrow-button

Shame on Banggood, I am surely getting a refund...

I've just ordered the SJ4000 wifi camera from Banggood as it had a very good review .They do admit that some models they sell are fakes with poor video quality so do read up on the right one before buying . They dont come with a battery or charger so order them too . I also got a gimbel for my quads as there having a bit of sale and the prices are decent at the minute.
was just about to buy one and then read your post , is there anywhere to buy genuine 1 reasonably priced
thx
Banggood have stated some models are fake but the one I ordered from them ,which arrived today is one of the genuine ones .It did come with a battery too and a load of fixtures and fittings . Haven't tried it for video quality yet .
