sorted byRandom-access memory (RAM /ræm/) is a form of computer data storage. A random-access device allows stored data to be accessed directly in any random order. In contrast, other data storage media such as hard disks, CDs, DVDs and magnetic tape, as well as early primary memory types such as drum memory, read and write data only in a predetermined order, consecutively, because of mechanical design limitations. Therefore, the time to access a given data location varies significantly depending on its physical location.
Today, random-access memory takes the form of integrated circuits. Strictly speaking, modern types of DRAM are not random access, as data is read in bursts, although the name DRAM / RAM has stuck. However, many types of SRAM, ROM, OTP, and NOR flash are still random access even in a strict sense. RAM is normally associated with volatile types of memory (such as DRAM memory modules), where its stored information is lost if the power is removed. Many other types of non-volatile memory are RAM as well, including most types of ROM and a type of flash memory called NOR-Flash. The first RAM modules to come into the market were created in 1951 and were sold until the late 1960s and early 1970s.
Hope this helps

You must be joking right? Most adults struggle to understand android, never mind kids. I dread to think what kind of malware would run riot in the hands of a child. Yes, there are parental controls, but any parent buying their kids fragile gadgets probably lacks the sense to enable such features.
Just picked up my JL order! Restoring now!.. Any benchmark requests?
Probably not, as even after all the updates the n7 is still very unstable, crashes galore on mine still. Plus the battery life sucks compared to the mini, despite the improvements over the tegra 3 version. Also, the nexus 10 cannot be compared to this, or in fact the air now, as its huge. Plus the Samsung build quality... Yuck.
For anyone buying their first tablet I would point them towards the Nexus 7, but for those who are already tied-in the iPad makes good sense. It is better built than the Nexus 7, has a similar spec and is easier (for most people) to use. I run a mixed IOS/Android household and enjoy the benefits of both. My wife loves everything Apple yet I prefer Android. Neither is really better or worse than the other, just different.
Nope, it's totally broken them, we are gonna need to team up and hastle them!!
Why not buy a budget android tablet instead and save some cash? You can get a good 7inch tablet for less than £150 and the kids will have loads of apps and games to keep them occupied.
I would have thought that the older model would be perfect for what you want!
I'm sure everyone will thank you for signing up to tell us that Zzzzzzzz
You could also say the same thing about Apple fans.
Personally, I've owned 1 iPod and would never touch Apple again. I just don't like the brand or their operating systems / setups restrictions / iTunes with a vengenace / having to jailbreak etc.
App wise, I've only ever used 8 max in my life and only 2 of them on a regular basis. I don't need access to 200 "calculate the depth of water in your pond" apps or whatever - akin to something like Sky where 95% of the channels are just home shopping etc crap no-one bothers with.
Not a major games player so Angry Birds and a tower defense game keeps me happy and I don't need to pay double the price for the brnad name in order to play these.
I do admit the build quality is better than most Android based devices
See the specs link I gave above in post #282 (link is also in description of this deal).
This thing has 1GM RAM just like the iPad Air. There is hardly any performance difference.
Don
Wish I could think of some. It's hard.
It does my head in how there was a massive queue and only 2 people working at the "know how bar", where you collect your order from, yet there was loads of sales staff ars!ng about not doing anything.
I hate Currys.
You'll register it with Apple on first use and then you just take it to Aapple if it's faulty.
Looks to be in store only this.
Not really that great! The normal cashback rate is 1.5% of £319 = £4.79. So there is an additional 10% on that which would be £0.48!
Would probably be even less as they normally calculate the cashback on the net price excluding VAT.
£60 saved in 2 weeks just from using HUKD, love this site!!!!!

When this is in stock, do a price match with John Lewis online and get 2 year warranty for the price of 1 :-)

Either get the standard 16GB and use iCloud or tell apple to stick their £80 16GB premium up their nexuses.
Biggest game on my phone is Football Manager and that's 385MB. The majority of games are below 100MB with the exception of Angry Birds which is 210MB.
Other popular games like:
Cut the rope - 100MB
Jetpack Joyride - 82MB
Clash of Clans - 57MB
Fruit Ninja - 35MB
If you're getting this as a present and are unsure what size to get, take a look on the AppStore, all the apps have their storage sizes listed. Hope this helps

And if it does sell out, could likely sell it for a profit anyway.
the latter
I need to correct this, most adults are too lazy. Any device is easy to setup for kids, all it takes is a bit of internet searching, but no they just get the device and palm it off to the kids to keep them quiet and then complain when the kids run up a huge in app purchase bill

Not even accurate. The build quality is similar, only difference is materials used. The screen is smaller but they are of similar quality. The battery life is 8 hours vs 9 hours, hardly poor. Processor wise they are much of a muchness IMO. Price wise there is a £100 difference.
all false and biased information.
build quality is similar? n7 is made of plastic and very average quality.whereas iPad Mini is metal and glass and a benchmark for design and build quality.there is no comparison really.screens are very different in quality, resolution and ppi.and viewable area.battery life of mini is 10 hours vs 8 hours on n7.and the 64 bit A7 beats n7's cpu any day.the £100 is WELL worth it cause the retina mini is just on a different level.
and just for a little comparison for screen size here's old mini vs nexus 7,I don't think you can even compare these two tablets.
Left is Old iPad Mini / Right is Nexus 7

Mini with Retina ALL THE WAY, the 4 is HEAVY.
No this is wrong. It's a great Daft Punk album..........
Yes both a Nexus Ka and an Apple Ferrari will get you to the school
If surfing, email and videos is all you do then the Nexus MAY be fine (the iPad is still better - but at a much higher price) but the range of Apps is always going to be richer on the iPad. Significantly people who have tried both almost always prefer the iPad by a large margin.
It must REALLY frustrate the Nexus fans how much people still want an iPad - as they appear on EVERY thread vainly preaching to the converted!

This all the way, had the Air a week, still too heavy to hold comfortably with one hand and this has higher pixel density. This is THE one.
I had a play with BOTH the Mini (a old one but still I could get the feel of it) and an iPad Air last Saturday!
For ME the Air felt much better. I could see the attractions of the Mini but it is NOT as clear-cut as you seem to feel
