They are referring to A-GPS, which is Assisted-GPS. This is supposed improve the time it takes for the GPS to lock-on to your position by using data containing the current positions of the satellites. A-GPS is mainly used with a mobile connection, but not exclusively, as it can also obtain data using Wi-Fi from internet based A-GPS Servers.

My Tom-Tom is a GPS and that does not have a mobile connection. It has a GPS chip which receives the time signals from the orbiting GPS satellites.

GPS doesn't require a mobile network e.g. the GPS in one's car isn't connected to T-mobile; GPS signalling (from satellites) is separate to mobile signalling (from mobile network towers). However a data connection is required to download maps in e.g. Google Maps.

Regarding HDMI it doesn't look like it does have it based on the LG website.

Explain myself? Well it's the newest tablet to hit the market hence why i used the word 'latest' and it a high spec tablet hence why i used the 'greatest'. Care to explain why you're asking?

    Mistake not to have HDMI.

One advantage of not having HDMI is that the Sky app will work. It doesn't on any device that does have one.

I am really interested in this tablet, after selling my gen 1 nexus 7 I've been in the hunt for a new tablet that's bigger than 7''. this fits the bill perfect I think 1080p screen.

Only concerns is support by LG.

The ipad mini uses "local wi-fi and mobile phone masts" to approximate its position so it can be used as a type of GPS. This quote is from Apple's website and so I believe tablets without a mobile connection can use GPS but exactly how, I'm not certain.

How so? It has better spec than the 2013 nexus 7 apart from lower PPI due to 8.3 inch screen yet the PPI is still higher than a retina Ipad

Nice, it's got everything I need (8",quad, SD, HDMI) and even more (GPS), not sure about the price though. This one is pretty much the same, no GPS but about 2.5 times cheaper.
Any chance for the LG one to be in the £150 territory in the next few months ?

The tablet you link to has a much lower resolution, hardly the same.

I've been looking into the hdmi part. Can't see any confirmation of anyone using it. Official page doesn't mention hdmi.

Worth adding clarification that resolution is 1920 x 1200 (not everyone will know the spec for WUXGA) - same as newer Nexus 7, but lower pixel density due to larger screen size.

I wouldn't worry about the processor being only a Snapdragon 600 rather than a 800... still very fast (faster than the S4 Pro in the newer Nexus 7).

Good price, and good choice unless you like the software benefits of a Nexus device (ie pure Android and timely updates).

Seems good. My budget is more £130 and I want HDMI out but it's good to see more 8-8.5 inch tablets as that's the size I want.

I have looked at a few reviews and LG website no mention of HDMI when its says TV out on a few reviews maybe they mean via wifi or via the usb . Normaly when a tablet has HDMI connection its a added feature for selling it. Can anyone throw light on this ? if it does have it then it very good value

    Really not comparable!

Snapdragon 600 vs Boxchip A31s SOC
    Adreno 320 vs SGX544MP2 CPU
    Screen 1920x1200 vs 1024 x 768
    Storage 16GB vs 8GB
    RAM 2 GB vs 1GB

Stating that they are similar is like saying every Android tablet on the market is similar, because they are a all tablets running Android... this is obviously not the whole picture.

He said there is no mention of hdmi in the manual.

I was hoping it would have a slim port like the lg g2 which supports hdmi.

There's not a plentiful supply, & what there is its quite expensive. I prefer one with voice / text capability.

There's the Samsung TAB 3 8 inch, but all 3G versions seems to be from overseas. There is also the Note 8.0 GT-N5120 which claim to be also 4G

This would be a great model for making a Nexus 8! I've read a couple of reviews, and the common opinion is that the hardware is excellent and the software is terrible. I might be tempted by this if/when a pure version of Android is available.
