Just bought one for myself (256gb model) and planning to upgrade the SSD.

256gb model now showing as OOS
512gb for £319 still available currently
——————————————————————————

Each Certified Refurbished Steam Deck has been thoroughly tested to the same high standards as our retail units. Every device goes through a complete factory reset, software update, and an extensive examination involving over 100 tests at one of Valve's facilities. Among the tests are all controller inputs, the audio system, the screen, and internals. Battery health is also assessed to ensure proper functionality and longevity.

All refurbished units meet or even exceed the performance standards of new retail units. Although they may have minor cosmetic blemishes, they provide a reliable, high-quality gaming experience at a lower cost.

Hi i bought one on the last deal but cancelled. I thought why not hold out for the legion, Its more expensive but powerful. I still can't make my mind up! What are your thoughts? Thanks
    send-pc-deals's avatar
more expensive, bulkier, less battery life etc.

Been considering a Steam Deck but gonna hold off for now as I'd prefer the OLED one.

Anyway for those looking at them Steam have a system to check your library and show you all the 100% compatible games, those that work with some minor issues and those that flat out don't work.

    You can check it here:

Your Library on Deck (steampowered.com) (edited)

I completely ignore Valve's Deck Verified programme - it doesn't cover the majority of Steam titles, it frequently gets it wrong (verifying titles that shouldn't be or vice versa) and gives you no clue what to do if the game doesn't run perfectly out of the box. Far, far better is protondb.com which solves all these issues and includes what workarounds may be needed for games that don't run perfectly.

It's tempting but I hear the OLED versions make such a difference I'm going to hold out.
    guy_good's avatar
Oled has much better screen at higher refresh, quite better battery and small performance improvements here and there, so yeah definitely

I bought the 512gb last time it came up. Love it. Been playing SSX on PS2 emulator, Elden ring, grid, steep, the surge, the surge 2, got back into bastion, session, GTA trilogy remastered, MGS remastered, dying light. It's shocking how well some games run on this thing. I would love the OLED but it isn't worth 200 quid more than this, I think, and I can buy all the extras I need within less of that amount. I got two 512gb Samsung Evo SD cards, back button extenders, screen protector and a power bank. I'm looking at getting a plug that will charge Mac book Pro, steam deck and realme gt neo 2 so I only have to carry 1 plug.

My only complaints are: I wish I got a larger internal drive, some quirks of the OS can be annoying. As I get older, convenience is getting more and more important so using heroic launcher and emudeck are nice, I'd rather a single button on steam big picture to launch the game I selected without a bunch of set up.
    Srelapse's avatar
Swapping the internal drive is so easy man. You should swap it.

Had the SD for about 6 months now.
    Pros:
    - My partner is happy that I can sit on the couch beside her and game
    - I can pause the games whenever
    - I've played so many games I wouldn't have thought about, and discovered some amazing finds because of it.
    - Game library is affordable IMO
    - Get a dock and use your old bluetooth controllers for co-op.

    Cons:
    - Low battery life on bigger games
    - Won't run things well like Helldivers 2 (but can run Cyberpunk / RDR2 fine).

Don't buy one. I had two faulty refurbished Steam Decks (from Steam directly) in a row this last month. First was DOA, second crashed and restarted after 5 minutes of playing Dishonored.

Got a refurbished Asus ROG Ally instead and it's a much better experience. Aside from not being faulty, full Windows 11 (as much as I personally prefer macOS/Linux) is much better for gaming. So far has played everything I've installed on it, without having to lookup games on ProtonDB and figure out what settings are needed to get it running.
    MentalFloss's avatar
    +1 to this.

I had no issues with the Steam Deck but having upgraded to the Ally, the hardware seems a lot better.

Running gamepass is really hassle free as well. (edited)

    Sad no 64gb version avaliable
    Minstadave's avatar
Honestly the 64GB is going to need upgrading soon after getting it so just get the 512GB.

I bought a 64GB and I am about to upgrade it, its just not enough capacity with all the shaders/proton files. (edited)

Is there an overall device that will let me play PS5, Xbox and Steam?
    Srelapse's avatar
Well this will play Sony published games, Microsoft published games and PC games. As they are all available on PC.
  9. DrBay's avatar
I don't know if the ally or legion has this, but the quick resume on the deck is a game changer for me. Especially as life seems to get busier and busier.

I got the 64GB deck for £240 returned last week. Increase the memory to 1TB and I'm so happy with it. Yea, the OLED would be nice, but for so much less money it's worth it.
    Mark_Moorby's avatar
Kind of.. you can put it to sleep when you're mid game and it almost always resumes fine. I don't tend to do it and didn't on my steam deck either cause I keep them in cases and get paranoid it will overheat or drain the battery

Barely used mine when i got it launch

    Cool.
  11. jungleboy123's avatar
Why do people buy these things? I got a gaming desktop, OLED why i need this low res mess lol?
    jack201's avatar
No one should bother answering this question
  12. noahsdad's avatar
WOW. Steam Dead is basically the budget option, but even at the under £300 used price is a bit expensive. Need to consider the trends of mass early adopter legacy users selling their consoles to upgrade to the better modern alternative offerings, and a saturated used market with fast daily failing prices for this retro handheld PC gaming tech, this is a bad price.

Nobody should be paying more than £200 for Steam Dead if they are serious about value for money.
    Yahyasajid's avatar
Retro lmao, wonder what you make of the switch
  13. Rukanau's avatar
Got the 256GB refurb, it may as well have been new. I would rather have the Deck with official Steam support and software than the other alternatives. Plus-bargain price.

Best piece of gaming kit I have ever owned , sold my PS5 as it was just gathering dust and hadn't been turned on for months after I bought this .
    Uridium's avatar
Yup, exactly the same, had barely touched my PS5 in months, sold it and bought my deck.
Love being able to pick up the deck and play whenever even just for a few mins. Press the power button and right back in the game where I left it.
  15. aleem's avatar
Went for this last time, and have a 2tb SSD on order to upgrade it.

I had some hands on time with my nephew's Rog Ally and neice's Steam Deck before hand.

The Rog Ally was constantly on charge and I have plenty of devices to run Windows on, so went for the Steam Deck. No regrets.
    Jonnyblock's avatar
Which SSD did you go for? Thanks
  16. IanMurphy's avatar
The legion go is a great machine. Love the size of the screen and the controllers. Not too heavy either. I wouldn't hesitate in getting a legion go
    CRWAB's avatar
Honestly I wish I'd got a legion over the SD, many friends do too with the Ally etc.

The SD is a great machine don't get me wrong, but being unable to use Gamepass without streaming is a major drawback for a PC gamer really.

good deal, love it since day 1.

Really everyone should have one at that price, best console ever made
  22. 0m4d's avatar
Loved my steamdeck, sold it and picked up a legion go which has been great as well. Main drive for the legion was playing gamepass natively installed not just streamed from the cloud. Honestly if you’ve got a decent size steam library though you won’t be disappointed at this price it’s a great bit of kit!
    GHRocker's avatar
Yeah my main regert with the Steam Deck is that other devices can do game pass natively, so may grab one of those one day as I use a Leigon laptop for all my work and is a workhorse, so I'd hope the Leigon Go is still good.
  23. ben_ellis's avatar
I bought an Ally waiting for one of these to come in stock (I got it cheap!) still don’t know if I made the right decision. It lives on charge but I have not bought a game yet because Xbox game pass has all I need. I still look at the steam deck in awe.
    Srelapse's avatar
Steam deck is a smoother more console like experience but isn't as well setup for gamepass.

Honestly I prefer stocking up games of my own choosing during the big Steam sales to gamepass these days.
  24. kcspurs's avatar
I just orderd new from the steam website for £349 a few hours ago because they had no refurbished led steam decks in stock
  25. prynolfc's avatar
Anybody found a way to get the official steam deck/ valve docking Station for less than full price rrp? Has valve ever done a sale on them yet? Or can I get steam wallet credit for cheap anywhere? Is it likely to get reduced around summer or Xmas time this year do we think? Thanks...
    Phil452's avatar
eBay shops sometimes have refurb deals on, they are basically new units, apart from that, valve does have a refurb section on the steam deck page

2TB that fits this posted today for £78 at AliExpress expires at midnight. Good price for the Steam Deck, especially if you have a big Steam library and don’t like fiddling with Windows.
    noahsdad's avatar
This was a good deal 6 months ago. Now with serious offerings such as ROG Ally and Lenovo Go, its like investing in a Nokia mobile when you can have a Samsung android mobile or hate to say it iPhone. Steam Dead is a victim of a rushed to market technology, that is now reliant on a legacy user base, clearly not sustainable.
  30. Diab's avatar
So hot it makes me want to buy a second deck
  31. Nonamenonumber's avatar
could this be a replacement for reliance on having a laptop/pc?
I presume you can cast it to a tv/ hdmi out?
    basergorkobal's avatar
    Yes, buy why?
It's Linux based so not ideal if you want to run Windows specific apps.
  32. Qamar_Zamanti9's avatar
It's fantastic IF you have your expectations set right. This is not a 60fps monster for new games. If you like to play older games and newer lightweight well optimised games then this is for you. If you are used to 60+ FPS then it will be a struggle to adjust to the 30-40fps you will be playing at for newer games.
    xxbluedragonxx's avatar
It’s also low resolution native. This does not equal a high end 4k GPU.
  33. Galveo's avatar
I love my big ol deck.
  34. Toomsey's avatar
Does anyone know what remote play for the PS5 is like? Thinking of getting to play Helldivers on the go.
  35. magicnigel's avatar
Does anyone know if the refurbished 512gb SD has the anti glare screen?
    atanum141's avatar
It does, and its quite good tbh. I got my 512 model last time the deal was about. (edited)
  36. NamNai's avatar
Anyone know if this is worth getting for someone who just wants a handheld and don't play much? Just want to run emulators and quacked games..
    guy_good's avatar
yes. it does all that and more
  37. thekudos's avatar
Are these just like Switch or PSP for adults?

I haven't had a handheld console since Gameboy but my children have switches.
    guy_good's avatar
its more for pc games and emulating old consoles like psp, ps2 etc. Its very good in that regard.
