Features of the Nintendo Switch Joy-Con

• Connectivity

  When operated wirelessly, the Joy-Con units communicate with each other and the console via Bluetooth.

• Battery

  Both left and right Joy-Cons contain fixed 3.7V 525mAh 1.9W lithium-ion polymer batteries. These can be charged by attaching to the Nintendo Switch and leaving it in charging (sleep) mode. They can also be charged on the separate grip. Fully charged batteries give up to 20 hours of play.

• Straps

  Joy-Cons are ergonomically designed to improve gaming comfort and come with a wrist strap attachment for greater flexibility.

• Controls

  Each unit has a clickable analogue stick, four buttons on the face, two on the top and a further two on the side. These include directional buttons, a sync button and a screenshot button (for taking stills and short video clips).

• IR Motion Camera

  Located in the right-hand unit, this can detect the shape, movement and distance of objects captured on the camera. It is so sensitive it can recognise the shapes your hand makes when playing rock, paper and scissors. This makes gameplay more exciting than ever.

• Haptic Feedback Engine

  Known as "HD Rumble", this innovative system generates tactile feedback when you move and tilt the Joy-Con. So realistic is this sensation, that you can actually feel ice cubes clanking together in a glass - in fact, you can almost count them.

• Other Features

  An accelerometer and gyroscope allow motion tracking and independent right and left-hand motion control while an extremely sensitive infrared depth-tracking sensor reads objects and motions held in front of it. There is also a near-field communication reader in the right unit.

• Colours

  Launch colours of the Joy-Con were slate grey or neon red for the right unit and neon blue for the left unit. Neon yellow, neon green, neon pink, neon red, neon purple and light brown were among colours added later usually to coordinate with the colour schemes of newly released Nintendo games.

• Compatibility

  Although not specifically designed to be compatible with other gaming devices, the Joy-Con can be paired via Bluetooth with PCs and mobile devices.
