You need to cancel in your last month of the 6-month trial if you want to keep it for the whole 6-months.
I signed up in November and each month in my P+ account it says my next payment is due the following month but I never actually get charged for it.
This was the email confirmation on setting up in November:
I’ve stupidly just cancelled my account as when I logged into it just now to see when my current trial expires I forgot it always showed payment due next month, and it was showing next payment as 22 March, so I thought my free trial was expiring then but I set it up in November so it was actually expiring in May. I will have to setup a new account now.
Update: it let me resume my subscription with the 6-month free trial from November still on my account. (edited)

Paramount+ have responded saying the 6 month free trial can not be accessed signing up via the app, you must sign up via their website to get the 6 months free trial.

My son watches 'Blaze' but this has disappeared from Amazon Prime 🤦♂️
