The description says "Higher Welfare Standards" so hopefully they will not be hal al as I was disgusted to see that after a recent refurbishment in my local store that they have added a massive hal al butcher's department.

Morrisons always used to say that they had their own slaughter houses and had the highest regards for animal welfare. I will have to carefully check that all the meat that I now buy from them to see if it is labelled as hal al or not but unfortunately meat that may have been tortured in that way is not always labelled as being hal al.

I couldn't bring myself to order meat from a company that actually chose to name itself Muscle Food. Weston Gourmet...what HAVE you done?!
I buy the chicken from MF quite often, but it does smell strange due to the gas flush they use, which can make the meat seem to have gone bad. Had a few steaks but don't bother now as they're always stringy with too much fat. Red meat isn't the best quality

Am I the only person who doesn't think this is a bargain? What supermarkets are people using?
no, same here ;)
I would love to know where you guys can get decent rump steak for £15.29 p/kg just any day of the week? Then add the extra bundle and not think its value?
£29.95 for 1.7kg of rump steak works out at £17.62 per kg.

Earlier in Sainsbury's it was £13.33/kg for rump steak and you could actually see it there and then. Sure, still no match for a decent butcher but cheaper than this.

Just had a couple of steaks for breakfast and they are good. Not sure I would say the cut is rump though. The chicken on the other hand was off, and went straight in the bin.
I am surprised you say the chicken was off, it is normal for there to be a smell from the packaging because there is a gas in the packaging for freshness. It even says on the packaging as well as on the website remove from packaging 30 mins before cooking

The bag was not sealed properly. It had leaked all over my fridge overnight. Putting the chicken in new bags, and noticed it was off.

Anyone give me a good butchers in Leeds reasonable price for fresh chicken breast please

I would really question any smaller outfit that can supply chicken breast fillets (not pumped full of water) for anything less than £3 / kg. Be Careful is what I would advise.

This deal is closer to wholesale prices , hence the large minimum order. They buy in bulk and supply in large quantities with probably only a very small mark up. I'm always cautious especially when it comes to poultry ;)

Anyone give me a good butchers in Leeds reasonable price for fresh chicken breast please
Update : Chicken tastes lovely , this is quality stuff , its not fatty or salty and I'm happy to say it isn't pumped full of water either ........ nom nom nom.

This is my new supplier , gonna save a fortune ..... happy days !!
Chicken looks good , no blood spots , very little fat left on to trim off (comparable with recent deliveries from Musclefood) , the fillets are huge !! averaging at around 330g each !!

Almost all of my 5kg packs comprised of 15 huge breast fillets. Label shows Kill date : 1/7/16 , use by date 14/7/16 and use within 72 hours of opening packs. I wrapped mine into portions with foil and have stored them in the freezer ;)

Got some out for dinner this evening so I will update later with our opinions on the quality / taste ;)

Voted hot for the price never tried them. The worry is that it's described as a 100% chicken yet the list of ingredients says 67% chicken. The rest must be cheap shoot and bulking.
100% Chicken in the ingredients would be a chicken fillet.
These 100% chicken fillets have a coating, hence, as a whole, won't be 100% chicken. ;)

Great deal - using these for breeding fishing maggots. At this price much cheaper than shop price. The birds also love maggots. A handful on the lawn, will keep blackbirds feeding young very busy. None get away, as they dig out any escapees, listening for them, just like worms.

thank you perfect for my calorie controlled diet. got to agree by themselves not very nice but in a tasty sauce you wouldn't know the difference
Quorn is delicious.
Interestingly, Quorn's target demographic are meat eaters who for some reason (cost or perceived healthiness) want to replace some of the meat in their diet. If vegetarians buy it as well that's fine but it's not the market where the product is aimed.
scunny
Anyone else notice it's always the meat eaters who look for veggie deals to spout off about?
First comment says it all. HOT deal OP. Meat eaters who feel the need to comment and complain about veggie deals really should get themselves a life. Love the comment about no babies in jelly babies :p
They have to actively click on the deal (which they have 0 interest in) to get to the comment section, just to post a lame derisive comment. These people do need to look in the mirror..
People say vegetarians/vegans are the ones who go round forcing their views on people, but I've seen nothing but the opposite in the past 20 years. Btw, Vegan Sidekick does some funny comics on the ridiculousness of people like these.

sounds like firstofficer is selling this?
Pretty much all local butchers will do 5kg of premium fresh class a skinless breast for £20-25 (£4 - £5 per kg).
It is of course not free range though. Spend the extra and enjoy nice free range organic meat. The taste is far superior.
For those thinking this is expensive, don't forget that this is PREMIUM Chicken breast fillet, with no fat / cartilage or bone.

Asda/Tesco/Sains/Waitrose may well do slightly cheaper cuts, but they are nowhere the same quality as this Grade A quality product.

I'll get my coat..

I think the context there is boosting growth by trying to prevent animals getting sick. There are certain antibiotics that can boost the feed conversion rate and these are the ones that were effectively banned. These were permitted to be additives in feed for animals I.e. Anyone could buy and use them as often as possible. Now, all antibiotics have to be prescribed by a vet. As it's impractical to isolate sick animals in large farms and test for infection and treat accordingly, once infection is detected it's easier to treat the whole farm. Unless all M&S farms are small scale, and looking at their prices they could be :), they will do the same thing.
These drugs are not cheap, particularly if treating a whole herd. If infection is constantly detected resulting in a vet constantly prescribing them, then something could be wrong with biosecurity at the farm. Situations like this should be investigated so as to limit the course length where possible.
If M&S mean when antibiotics are used they will ensure it's for as little time as possible and will ensure something is done to try and prevent reinfection then I agree with their approach. And if that's the case we've been discussing 2 sides of the same coin. :D

probably most people would be more interested in what the chickens are fed, perhaps that's why M and S make such a big deal about not routinely giving antibiotics as growth promoters. Still, each to their own I guess. Fill your boots.
That's just marketing. ;) Using antibiotic and hormonal growth promoters has been banned in the EU for a decade now.

Bird's Eye Southern Fried Chicken has been appalling for the last few years, so i'll try to pick up some of these and give them a try. Heat given, good price.
Try "Diggers" Southern fried chicken steaks, 4 for £1.50 from Heron Foods, basically a chicken breast in coating, not reformed or anything.
I know what you mean about the Birds Eye ones, they need to up their game. Their chargrills seem better though.

Sadly we don't have Heron Foods here in London. Will keep an eye out for them elsewhere though, ta for the advice. And big respect for your Viz character name!

" As a result, in the early 1970s, the use of penicillin
and tetracyclines were banned as growth promoters.
The same antibiotics, however, could still be added for
routine disease prevention or treatment to animal feed or
water, frequently at the same doses as used for growth
promotion, and for long periods of time, so long as a
veterinary prescription was obtained. This loophole meant
that the use of these antibiotics in animal feed continued
to increase, despite the Committee’s intentions. By 2013,
the farm use of penicillin-type antibiotics (beta-lactams)
had increased over five-fold since the growth-promoter
ban, and the use of tetrayclines had increased over nine fold"

Go to your local halal butcher 3kg for £8.99!
Not sure which part of the country you live in but anything less than £4/kg and it will be pumped full of water and beef gelatin.

Ghafoor poultry does not do that. Its pure chicken breast not pumped up by water.

Why do people persist on buying chicken breast?
Because they're nutritious, tasty and packed with good stuff like protein :)
So are chicken thighs which are tastier and cheaper
Chicken thighs are rancid, chewy and smelly. I wouldn't feed them to my dog.

If this is your experience it is likely that you are a godawful unimaginative cook, or have had some tainted chicken, cooked properly & removed from the bone you would likely not be able to tell which part of the chicken it came from in a decent pie, stir fry, etc..

Not the foggiest. But I've heard about what the Welsh do to sheep, not heard anything about the same with chickens.

Just had the meatballs for the first time tonight, lovely. Cooked in my electric pressure cooker with pasta and they didn't break up at all.
Use Musclefood on a regular basis. The quality is high, and I don't give a rats a55 where it comes from. Best to stick to the deals though, as ordering item by item can be expensive.

(not aimed at you OP)
"Ashfield Farm" or any farm in multi-national public relations urban dictionary means the home of a senior manager fitted with all mod cons and gold taps.

didnt have any in either airdrie store, staff looked at me like a was stupid. is this deal in england only?

It's on their website in the InStore Grocery tab in the This Week's Fresh Meat Special buys section: Mini Chicken Fillets

Edit: Oh, I see from your comment above that you've already seen it on their website. Wouldn't know if it's country specific or not, but surely, they'd have to mention that on their website if it was. Not sure.
