Fine wine is one of the greatest pleasures known to man. Whether it's paired with cheese, enjoyed on warm summer evenings or shared with friends to celebrate a special occasion, wine has become a national obsession in the UK. Whether they need a bottle of bubbly or an outstanding red, wine fans can find the bottles they need for less at the HotUKDeals wine listings.

Hi everyone... What would you recommend for someone who wants to start drinking wine? Of course, I've had the odd glass before and I'm not keen on red but can see myself sticking … Read more

This is certainly a great idea but I wouldn't go by what others have scored. It is up to personal taste and I have found many times that I didn't like some highly rated expensive wines but enjoyed the cheap ones. But the app is great to track your personal taste and it will help you form a profile of the wine you like.

Download Vivino to keep track of all your favourite wines and see how others have scored them

There are loads of good offers on wine plans (like Naked, Sunday Times, Laithwaites). Buy a box of 12 whites and see which types you like and go from there. They generally have a good mix.

Its mainly red wine they drink, I think mostly new world wines... About £50 budget, that's about all I know

What I do if I want to get someone wine as a gift and I do ot know theit preferred type i.e a merlot or burgundy for red or a chardonnay for example as a white. Once you know the type of wine they like and then the world is pretty much open to you. When it comes to price always bear in mind that the duty on a bottle of wine is at present £2.23 plus the dreaded vat that makes £2.68 so a £5 bottle of wine would have a total of £3.23 duty and VAT leaving just 1.77 for the grower bottling transport and the retailer. That's not to say that all £5 wine is rubbish. . Hhappy to recommend a few reds or whites if you have a budget and a type

I 100% totally understand that, I just don't drink wine at all but have family who like nice wines, so I like to buy them a nice bottle for Xmas, without advice I would end up buying vimto for them

I will look out for some

Evening all, Does any1 know if Sainsbury’s will be offering another 25% off wines before Christmas? Wondering to stock up now or wait
mutley1

i wish tesco would start doing this as they seemed to have abandoned this now.

billingtonrover

I believe it’s on this week until the 2nd November.

Sheep_Flavour

I think they did this last year but wouldn’t want to say for 100%

Sheep_Flavour

I don’t know for sure, but I would say they will of course. They know Xmas is coming and they will do at least one in Nov and Dec I think from previous years.

Hey guys, For an upcoming wedding we are our purchasing our own drinks for the drinks reception and wedding breakfast. I'd guesstimate something like 30 bottles each of red, whit… Read more

I just picked up 6 bottles of red wine from Sainsbury's for a friend, she was happy with all the choices.

Cheers, yeah corkage is £5 a bottle. We have out fizz sorted, just struggling on the vino. We've purchased a handful of bottles of different styles (red) and don't really like any! They all seem a bit acidic and heavy on the tannins, even an Italian one.

W_jelly1

also check corkage prices if the caterers are pouring look at magnum bottles - many about - but some charge standard price to open a bottle, some for size. For cheap fizz Aldi's organic prosecco is good value - else shop round as that seems to have gone up in price and down in quality, else look at Cava not as fashionable so you can get better value.

oldskooladdict

Cheers for the tips both. It seems supermarkets may be hard to beat.. Especially if you have a voucher for first online shop or something too!

I have my wedding reception in 2 weeks. Utilised the recent Amazon subscribe and save offer for the wine and got 30 bottles of red and 30 bottles of white at £3.66 a bottle delivered this was for McGuigan Black Label Red and Pinot . Likewise used Costco for all the spirits (don't think it can be beaten for price) and supermarkets for lager and ales if Costco didn't stock what I wanted. I'm off to pick up 96 bottles of Camden Town Hells Lager from Sainsbury this afternoon.

Well done for reducing the alcohol intake. Keep in mind you may still have an addition problem. Also keep in mind 1 bottle of nosecco contains enough sugar for the whole day. Keep it up

Ok just an update for anyone interested I’ve started to regularly drink some talked nosecco it’s from Ocado for about £3 a bottle. It helps me fill the void left by wine. I still drink wine but significantly less than before. Until a decent alcohol free wine comes along this will do for me. Thanks for the comments
