Would you expect Netflix just to let you buy their app once and that's it?
There are ongoing development and server costs that can't be covered by a single purchase fee.
And yet the Netflix app IS free, they make their money from the monthly subscription.....
That's EXACTLY what I'm getting at....
Moosery2 said that they don't like SaaS, and would rather just buy the app once.
My point is that companies such as this, and Netflix can't sustain themselves on a one off purchase, as there are recurring monthly costs. Hence the free app (possibly a free trial) and a paid monthly subscription!
It's completely different. Netflix have to maintain massive infrastructure, but more importantly, they regularly pay for content, and create their own content.
SaaS for basic apps and software generally is a far more expensive model for the consumer than the traditional model of paying once for software, and then again if you want to upgrade to a newer version.
It makes sense for the companies adopting those models, but arguably it often isn't justified (in that, it's staggeringly more profitable - and the cost for just one year of use can be far greater than one would ever spend on the application).
Irrespective of the company, a SaaS that is maintained and improved has ongoing costs. A one time purchase is not a viable business model to allow for continual development.

It's still not a very good comparison. Netflix etc. can be better compared with similar services like Spotify, Amazon Instant Video, Google's streaming services etc. Basically services where not only are the infrastucture and development costs greater, but there are significant content and licensing costs too.

A lot of the SaaS fitness services etc. are arguably rather overpriced.

Besides, there are alternative models - such as paying for certain features, for upgrades, etc.

Anyway, consumer reticence regarding SaaS pricing models is very understandable, regardless of the viability of alternative models.

Echo cmsimc's comment, I've ordered shed loads of stuff from banggood over last 6-8 months and never had a problem with goods ordered, quality or delivery. Last item ordered was delivered unbelievably quickly, 8-9 days. Would not hesitate to use again...
Anyone know what's the best equivalent of this for iPhone.. (apart from the obvious overpriced apple version - or is that the only one that's compatible?) :)

Just to follow up, I ordered the black mi band strap and it doesn't fit.

No surprise there. This one is bigger than the Mi Band, so no wonder why it would not fit. The Mi band will fit in this one but it is loose, so eventually can get lost.

Thanks. The price has dropped to £10.99, so it's an even better deal. :)
I would advice you not to waste your £10.99 on this one and get a Mi band instead. Trust me, I've got both.
In paper this one seemed better than the Mi band, but in practice, solely based on reliability, Mi Band wins.
Thanks. The price has dropped to £10.99, so it's an even better deal. :)

Hi, I bought this device and it just arrived today. I've been searching for ages, but can anyone tell me a good app that I could install on my phone to push notifications to it?
I have a Moto G 2014 w/ Lollipop if that helps
Thanks,
I used the BTNotification app. Didn't have great reviews on Play Store, but worked for me. Moto G 2nd Edition.
Also have a look at this:http://www.abidibo.net/blog/2015/04/01/how-get-best-your-u8-smartwatch/
Using Tasker app (£2.99 - I already had it) you can start really messing about with it!
I had issues with BTNotification App. Downloaded this to my phone, disconnected the bluetooth then reconnected to phone and I'm receiving all notifications from my Galaxy.

Yep I think that's the recommended app. I only went for the one I mentioned because I had used it previously. Plus I wanted to make sure it was working with the Tasker app.

I don't appear to have anything like that
I have now received mine today & actually looks quite good. I have just got to work out how to do things now. Initially purchased as I need a watch and have use for a pedometer so thought It a good price just for that.
As I said In my previous post I got mail suggesting It being blocked at customs and eventually got It. So anyone who hasnt recevied thiers yet should perhaps just be patient as It should arrive.
Received mine today 4 weeks after placing the order. The bracelet looks and feels cheap but does the job. I find the watch surprisingly compact but then I have biggish wrists. The display quality and resolution are decent, the 'flat tyre' at the bottom though off putting is something I can live with. The interface is quite snappy, the watch synched quickly with my Galaxy S4 using the Mediatek app and the device appears to have a range of roughly 10m. Remote calls/texts, notifications all work really well. The pedometer is very accurate but the heart rate monitor is a bit hit and miss when compared with manual readings (it may produce an accurate reading 6 out of 10 times but I have a very slow pulse with regular sinus arrhythmia which may explain some of the erratic readings-however its useless unless it can get it right every time IMO). ECG is a gimmick and I suspect so is the thermometer (it just shows a normal temperature or thereabouts but then I am not running a temperature atm). The camera has very poor resolution but pics look ok on the tiny screen-however it is a bit pointless on the whole due to lack of storage space on the device. Haven't checked any of the other functions such as sleep monitor etc yet.

All in all, a decent enough piece of kit for 30 odd quid which I expect will see some occasional use...

waterproof???

It appears to be, though I haven't tested it myself. The watch has got wet in the rain and still worked but I generally take it off when I am exercising or having a bath. There is a youtube video of the Sun watch being submerged and covered with water and the watch seems to work fine. Plus others have taken it apart and confirmed there is a gasket between the casing and back to stop water leaking in.

Here is a video of the watch being subjected to water :-

I've had one for 2 months and it's pretty useless. Really difficult to connect on Android, works better on an iPhone but less functionality, e.g. Won't do text messages. App itself is really basic and no integration with things like Apple Health, can't see the display in daylight, over counts your steps, I could go on. Save up for something like a Fitbit or Misfit

anyone have any experience of using the meter in a pocket?
Before I lost mine, I'd stick it in my tiny jeans pocket facing inwards so it was less likely to fall out, and aside from the temperature meter, it seemed to work just fine step-wise.

brilliant, thanks, ordered :-) Thanks OP also!

I was lucky enough to pick up the black balance board and Wii Fit Plus game for buttons recently, so I'm hoping the Wii Fit U game and tracker will give me a bit of motivation to do a bit more!
I bought this even though after about a week I'll be using the balance board as a cake tray.

Where can I buy the 19.99 dollars from?hukd now using dollars?:p

AFAIK The UK price hasn't been announced yet. Didn't like to put £12.xx in title as have a sneaky feeling the UK price will be £20, rather than the converted rate for $20

Is it likely that we will be able to order from the US with free delivery? Can't see a stepometer being region locked (but you never know)
[helper]
Pedometer is not required to play but the promotion - buy it to activate the full game for owners of a balance board - sounds really good, that's the option I'll be taking myself.
The Wii Sports games look interesting too with graphical improvements, online play & motion plus integration. Hope they include off-TV play too.

Looked at this before, reviews not good, got the Fitbit One and Aria scales last time Amazon did them for £134 special offer, they work brilliantly. You get what you pay for and this deal is for old designs that no one buys now as the tec has moved on rapidly in this sector.
Not a bad price however

- Software is crap
- Scales constantly display an error code
- Never used pedometer

Personally id avoid and save your money

If you're interested in sleep tracking and have an Android phone save some money and get the app "Sleep as Android" instead. It's very effective and has far more functionality than this device.
