The Nintendo Switch can be played both as a portable handheld device and a stationary docked console for home use.
Nintendo Switch Controllers come in two main types. The Nintendo Switch Joy Cons connect to the sides of your console for handheld use and can be detached for wireless gameplay, whereas the Pro Controller features a more familiar controller design. Both have similar functionality but the Pro is considered a more advanced option, with its ergonomic design and traditional gaming pad layout. The Joy-Cons come in a wide range of colours and can be used with accessories including charging grips, steering wheels and tennis racquets.
Nintendo has also released a collection of compatible retro controllers, including N64, NES, SNES and SEGA Mega Drive, so you can play your favourite classic titles on Nintendo Switch like never before.
In addition to the official Nintendo Switch controllers, there are many other licensed controllers available, fully compatible with Nintendo Switch, offering different features to suit your preferences.
Nintendo Switch Joy-Con vs. Pro Controller
Making a choice on whether to stick with the Joy-Cons or go for the Pro, will depend on how you use the Switch. Bear in mind that the Joy-Cons and the Pro are not mutually exclusive controllers as two or more people can play the same game using either option.
