I often look at these and think "who buys these?". Most mobile phones can record better quality than these and you will always have your phone in your pocket. Making this redundant.

. not like those other brand names on specific expensive Chinese products! X)[/quote]
As long extra money goes for extra quality control and R&D - I'm perfectly fine with it.

And apart from jokes - Chinese can now build proper products for not-so-low-but-still-decent price. But they tend to use their own brands, not second-hands heavily worn out brands from Europe or US. Just like Xiaomi or Huawei.
And there is nothing wrong with Polaroid or Blaupunkt as long you're aware what you buying and price is fair. The only problem is because brand belongs to importer, not manufacturer, you'll find it on good and bad products and you never know what will be next - excellent piece of technology or piece of c**p. It can be just anything - check product, not brand.

Edited By: HaraldBB on Dec 14, 2015 14:17
As others have said, Polaroid stuff is UTTER junk. Avoid.
HaraldBB

There is nothing to like as for some time now Polaroid is just another brand printed on random cheap chinese products - same as Blaupunkt, Medion, Praktica, Kodak, etc...

Received today. Absolutely unusable in anything but brightly lit indoors or daylight. Even then not a great image. Waste of money. What's Scan like for returns?

Also date and time in bright yellow font embedded in image. Can change the date/time by editing "TAG.TXT" file in root of memory card, but can't disable it.

I want my heat back.

Update: Can't believe price is £24.99 now! Anyone want to buy my one for £10 :)

How are these powered? Do you always have to use the car lighter to power, or have they a rechargeable battery lasting for x hours?

It's powered by the car's electrical system. It's internal battery is there to stop the video clip being recorded when external power is cut from being corrupted or lost, & to keep the date / time stamp accurate.

so which are the best for use with motorcycles then - in people opinions?

if you want something descreet and compact with quality id go for something like the Panasonic HX-A1 or Drift Ghost.
I had the session and the battery life was awful. Would struggle to get an hour out of it with wifi on, using my phone as a view finder, Just shy of two hours without wifi on. I plugged a pebble 1800mh recharger in it and this kept it going for around three hours, I think the pebble drip charged rather than used itself as a portable battery pack. Picture quality better than my hero 2 but I sent the session back as out of the box the battery makes it almost unusable and is a major flaw, and have gone for the 3 plus silver which is classed as prosumer rather than the session consumer, and 4 black professional
so which are the best for use with motorcycles then - in people opinions?
This is the price this camera should have always been. It doesn't have the sharpness of other GoPro cameras. The Polaroid cube plus is still cheaper, and with 'better' video quality.

Waiting for a 4K Xiaomi Yi.

Interesting that today Xiaomi have opened this Yi up for sale in the US through Amazon.
Just returned one to amazon, terrible audio on some of the builds, seems to be fixed on the newer builds but theres no way of knowing what you are getting. Ordered a Gitup Git2 from gearbest instead.
I bought an SJ4000 last year for less than this and it's 1080p, with a rear screen a waterproof housing and all the gopro style mounts. So I'm guessing you could pick one of those up for under £50 now
Camera alone is £42 from gearbest. This is only a good deal if it comes with the office selfie stick and the Bluetooth remote.

Edited By: dcx_badass on Nov 28, 2015 11:08
Bought this half a year ago for same price.... good camera but wouldn't say its a deal.

Camera alone is £52-53 here http://www.amazon.co.uk/Xiaomi-Yi-Action-Camera-recorder/dp/B00UL2654C and there is probably somewhere cheaper.

Thinking of getting one of these for my daughter who wants a GoPro for when she is on holiday but she's a bit ditsy when I comes to looking after expensive gadgets . Am I mad to even consider it or are they actually ok?

Looks the same as the hundreds of chinese GoPro copies on ebay, except without the million mounting brackets.

Is there any reason to spend an extra £5-£10 to get it from Aldi?

Still waiting for refund! I will never buy from Curry's again....unless it's a HUKD ☺
I ordered in store, so I could pay by a gift card... What a complete f**king chew on.

Store cant help, and online cant help
Same thing has happened to me. Received e-mail on Saturday stating that order would be cancelled as this was an out of stock, end of line product. My complaint e-mail to customer service is yet to be acknowledged or replied to. Clearly a case of Currys not wanting to be at a financial loss by replenishing stock to fulfil orders. Very disappointed.
I am currently in the process of exchanging it for the sony as200vr

really long winded process . Apparently buy again and they will in turn either issue a cheque or get the finance department to do a BACS transfer . Got the call back and was issued with the complaint reference . So hopefully nothing will go wrong ( touch wood )

while 4k video might be great, 4k photo is not something good, that is under 9 megapixel, a lot of phones do more than that. It seems to be an advertising trick.
It's ironic that you call 8MP a marketing trick when the whole megapixel race is the biggest marketing joke with cameras with small sensors such as phones and typical compact cameras.
Considering that most photographs are never printed but are viewed on screens ranging from 1MP to 4MP with most being 2MP (1080P) or less then 8MP images are perfectly fine.
You’ve been hoisted by your own petard.

while 4k video might be great, 4k photo is not something good, that is under 9 megapixel, a lot of phones do more than that. It seems to be an advertising trick.
1. The quality of the sensor and optics etc are more important once you go beyond a reasonable number of pixels which for typical home consumers is not that many.
2. 4K photo is an added feature and not a replacement for its regular photo features. Useful for situations where it's very hard to get the exact photo that you want. An 8MP photo is a lot better than 16MP of nothing! :)
while 4k video might be great, 4k photo is not something good, that is under 9 megapixel, a lot of phones do more than that. It seems to be an advertising trick. I would buy it from John Lewis even if is £9 more, their added care incl accidental damage for 3 years is only £40.
Disappointing as a camera , according to some. Dont know about video side.

If you have no lens - how much better value is the Jessops version of this cashback deal which is £479 but includes a 14-42mm lens for an extra £50?
The 14-42 is a pretty good lens. Its a useful zoom range for most photos, and decent image quality. So I think it is worth getting a kit with that.

Amazon and Currys have the kit with the 14-42 for £570 (before cashback), so a bit cheaper than Jessops

Package received package received. Repeat: package received, over. Was sent from the eu warehouse when stock came back in. Then received within 3 days from that point. Because of that there were no additional VAT or administration charges at customs too - which is always a risk when you order selecting their china warehouse.

I think you ordered from their China warehouse... and it does say that it can take 1-2 weeks (top of my head) to process (which means pack n post) the order than a further 7-25 days to deliver...
I think that explains the delay then. Although, I did wait for EU warehouse availability so as to order without fear of customs and VAT charges, I think there must not be any there and GearBest are just going to follow the China order process like you say.

Probably... but I am very hopeful that you'll get it during the next week :) *fingers crossed*

Ideal for cyclists who are ........
spat at? driven at? forced off the road? ignored? punishment passed? abused? punched?
cos all of those things have happened to me :(
you must be a absolute ar*ehole on the roads, no offence of course.

Not at all mate, I just ride a lot. This is the general reaction from a very small percentage of people.
I got **** when someone came onto a blind roundabout at speed and had to brake hard. He was off to the scrap yard. I won't go any further with that stereotype.
I get spat at regularly just cos I'm on a bike, same with debris being thrown at me. Abuse also - the old "get a car" being particularly prevalent amongst the Clarkson brigade. As if quoting some fat unfunny middle aged man is the height of humour. Wow, hold my sides.
I've had boy-racers in their low-slung cars cross the road and drive head on at me because, you know, that's funny to spook a person on a bike.
Punishment passes are an everyday occurrence especially if you have the "cheek" to overtake traffic that sits in queues at rush hour. Or God forbid you swerve to avoid debris/holes etc.
I've had a Stagecoach bus pass me so close that I've had to fall off the road lest I get hit. This travelling into a 30 zone where I'm doing 25 and they have to stop at the next bus stop.

These incidents are not as a result of me doing anything other than cycling along. Unfortunately, in this country, a person on a bike is seen conversely as both a person who "thinks they own the road" and is a second class citizen. The old "should pay road tax" or "should wear hi-viz" is trotted out by smug twits sitting in their motors, never minding the fact I do own a car, I do pay vehicle excise duty and I have got insurance for me on my bike. Oh and of course, red light jumping. That's my fault as well, and I have to be held accountable for everyone else's actions and punished/treated accordingly. Never mind the fact I would die if I jumped any red light on my 12mile commute.

However, I know that no matter what the risk on the roads, it is infinitely better than becoming one of the ever expanding (lol!) group of people who die of obesity related disease (about 30k a year at present, set to soar over the coming years).

I might, however, move to Holland where they made fundamental decisions 30 or 40 years ago and are reaping the benefits now (of cycle / pedestrian use)! And vehicle users don't see bike users as scum.
Got one through bespoke, thanks
Zain

Obviously this is cold. Why on earth would anyone need one of these. Surely if there was a need Apple would make one that costs about £1500 and there would be queues, in the pouring rain, round the block on launch day?

Take a look at this video for one of their more expensive models:Feeling Seasick Just watching it!
Even if this model were as good I'll be staying clear.
The image correction is horrible in that video.
@op,1080p at 30fps,isn't that classed as out dated for an action cam?
My £60 yi (now £45) does 1080p at 60fps, 720p at 120fps. 16mp sensor for stills etc.
I'd recommend that over the camera above.
Thanks for mentioning the yi. Need to look into that...

It's a nice little camera. I got mine from Banggood.com for £60, but seen it recently for £44.85 there.

I used to have a v2000 if i remember correctly you could turn the tape over.

You have indeed remembered correctly, it used the same concept as an audio cassette, so you turn over the cassette to effectively double your recording time.In many ways V2000 & Betamax were superior to VHS of course, but they were difficult to repair due to the complex mechanisms & tape transport.

Is there any beta max tapes there :p

HaHa, no but they did have a triple pack of Video 2000 tapes. ;-)
Sorry, but I like my JVC Mini DV, it's better than my Panasonic HD, but not as practical.Trouble is, just because something says HD, doesn't mean it's picture quality is going to be great, especially in low light, lots of factors, image sensor, lens, processor etc.I better not mention that I still have a Panasonic M1 in my loft, my first, full size VHS!
Seriously, if I could afford something that compares in lens spec, I'd buy it, but for now, two 5 packs for £8 will last me until New Year :-)

I bought 3 of these through a recent MyMemory deal. They are awful beyond belief. The app is terrible, the binding sequence is completely random on whether it works or not, and one of the three was DOA. Also, if your power goes out or if you want to move the camera, you have to go through the crap binding sequence AGAIN.

Honestly, buy something else.

Same price in Argos http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/1665956.htm
The Canon gets 69% vs the 71% of the Sony from Which.co.uk.
With that said, the audio quality would seem to be better on the Canon. Video quality would seem to be about the same. The Sony has WiFi, whereas the Canon has a bigger screen and (more importantly for me), high bitrate MP4 video recording (no messing about with AVCHD files).
Personally, having owned Sony stuff in the past, I would choose the Canon. WiFi is a gimmick - and I bet the menu system is much better on the Canon.
Unless Amazon Prime Day pull something out of the bag
I also looked at the Sony, there were a few more bad reviews for it on amazon and the Canon had a touch screen and better quality apparently, so went with the canon.
You can get that Sony for just over £100 with the 15% off Warehouse Dealshttp://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-listing/B00HR684TY/ref=sr_1_4_olp?m=A2OAJ7377F756P&s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1436949967&sr=1-4&condition=used
True, but used models. I think the Canon is better from what I read anyway. Thank you though,

The Sony HDR CX330 (older model to CX407) has dropped in price to £150 which is actually a better than the Canon and Sony cx240 http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/2620213.htm

Can't comment on the picture quality but the box says 12mp and the camera setting says 12 too. Not used it yet apart from dunking it in our pond to see what was like underwater. As for the video, the sound isn't great but underwater picture was ok, so will do for the water slides and good value even if it only ever gets used at water parks or the beach.
Has anyone received there's and can tell me if its def 12 megapixel for taking photos as on the vivitar website says its 5mp.
I got it to take to a water park for a cheap way of getting pics without risking anything expensive. For £12 I was happy with it and can now take some fun pics on the slides. Wouldn't want to be spending loads on a camera I may only use for 1 day at the park
Ordered thanks op, it has to work, fingers crossed, going to take it to the cote d'azur and take some snaps will post when I come home hahaahahahahaha

Whilst I was making up my mind yesterday, I thought it wouldn't harm to reserve one.
Then this morning I decided to go for it but when I went to collect it, it had gone up to £139.99. Luckily I had the reservation which they obviously had to honor.
I thought it was a good deal. Argos clearly thought it was a bit too good too!
Good reviews on Amazon. Not sure you can go too far wrong at that price.
AVCHD or MP4
what codec does it record to?
I think Noel Edmunds should shave.
