I can't say that this is a great mirrorless camera. It is full frame, but the dynamic range is pretty terrible for a full frame camera, worse than some APS-C cameras like the X-H2. The battery life is not particularly good, autofocus is very average. 1/4000 shutter speed is ok for a low end camera but not nothing more.

Really the only thing going for it is the price. If you are desperate for a full frame camera, maybe this will suit you but personally, I would probably give it a miss.

Yep, it's a heavily cut down R and the tech inside is fairly old now.

This is a great little camera if you're only interested in photos, and nothing beyond HD video.

Hi. Got this. Quite a nice little piece of kit. Seems so small in my hands though compared to 5d mk3 which I am not quite willing to let go but wondering what is the cheapest upgrade on this camera?
I discovered it does not have a shutter speed > 1/4000 . (edited)

The R8 is going to be the cheapest option that offers a direct upgrade, but it is a pretty incremental one- you get a newer sensor, faster processor and shutter speeds down to 1/16000 in an even lighter (but actually slightly larger) body, higher maximum ISO, higher resolution screen, marginally faster continuous shooting and deeper buffer. Lots of small improvements but it's going to feel fairly iterative. A used R7 would probably be the next step up that I'd personally consider a worthwhile move.
