yeah, you open it on the app on your phone/tablet and cast it to the Chromecast

I've tried such numerous times in the past, and it does NOT work!. :-(

NowTV App via Chrome Casting, is a bit fickle that way? (unfortunately?). :-(

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Screen Mirroring on the other hand?, is a whole different animal ... lol. :-)
Hi, just a general question on NowTV. Hope someone can help me.

I am planning to take up this offer (got the code already) in August so that my teenager can watch the new Game of Thrones when it comes out in July. We are away when it starts and will be back in August. Does anyone know how long is each episode likely to stay on Now TV before they disappear? Just don't want to sign up and find that we can't watch the first few episodes.
Even better news - Now TV have all seasons of GoT available to stream as soon as they broadcast. So it will all still be there next year as well so that he can binge watch teh whole thing before the final season next summer.

the link doesn't work if you've got an active pass... but if you copy the code from the link that loads up, you can apply it manually through your NowTV account. no need to wait. £1.66 per month, boom. :)
Whats the code then?
So if the link takes you to a page like http://www.nowtv.com/chromecastents?voucherCode=NOWTVCODE
Take, the NOWTVCODE part (yours will be different) and copy that. Go to you Now TV account and use that on the "Apply Passes" page - it'll then tell you that your next three months are cheaper
I'm guessing that those of us who have to do it this way have various Add Blockers and tracker blockers (I have AddBlock and Ghostery) which may be blocking the passing of data between web domains.
Thankyou I just did that and worked beautifully

i really need one but link wont open

You get it via the Home app on your phone or tablet. https://www.google.com/chromecast/redeem/

I have the 16gb version, its a nice small box and it runs nicely. I also have a 1st gen fire tv and a generic t95k. This box so far performs far better than the others.
I use it for Skype on tv, google picassa albums and browsing net. As it's Android you can download more apps that are not on supported by your tv make.

You'd rather buy the 500GB for £220 & spend the extra £50 you save on a 2TB Extenal Hard drive IMO (_;)

Personally better to buy the 1TB. Dislike wires/hard drive sticking out. Get the 1TB bundle with 3 games + controller. Sell all them boom!

I genuinely don't see the value in these 1tb bundles. Argos do the same too. You're effectively paying +£50 for an additional 500gb

Any idea when the pass expires? Tempted to purchase a few for when my house's Virgin runs out. We're paying way too much to watch Freeview channels and Sky Sports! cheeky

Very good find. I very recently bought this from Currys for £36. I guess those voting cold aren't sports fans.

maybe it is because people are fed up of convoluted ways to save money. We have got to a stage now that few are willing to pay full price for cars, cinema tickets, restaurants because there are so many "special offers" out there. Come on Now tv and others, make your prices reasonable and you can take out a lot of complexity from your business, and might ever win some loyalty
Maybe cos it's crap.... I got super BB and std tv... never watch the tv side, it's rubbish... won't be renewing unless it's really cheap for the fibre..
still waiting for my now tv cash back via topcash back 3 months later. never had a problem before.

You only get a week of Sky Sports, not a month, you have 1 month in the pic you use.
That's annoying I never uploaded a pic!
Well then which mod/helper should probably own up and say sorry it that's true, and you could'ave changed it by now
Just poor... even including box... I bought the box plus a 6 month entertainment package for £18 last week... How is £15 for a weeks sport a good deal?

Isn't the normal price on now tv for a week of sport £10.99?( without the box) I've got a few boxes and usually sell them on eBay but haven't voted either way on this. If it was a month of sport NOW that would be a good price!
A good deal if you're interested in buying the box too, otherwise just buy the standard pass.

Thank you OP - my reduced price subscription (3.99 movies, 3.69 entertainment) was due to end this month. Just renewed both for 2 months thanks to your post.
I've got over a years worth of passes for free by playing "snatch".
Thanks for the heads-up! My last Movies Pass comes to an end later this month, so I've just tried it and been offered it at £1.99 for two months.

FYI I recently got this and am seriously disappointed with the quality of the stream. I have a 50Mbit/s connection through BT and am getting quality that looks like a half-decent pirated DVD, despite excellent full HD on every other streaming service I've used.
Maximum resolution is 720p and you won't usually get that. It's also horrendous quality colour.https://help.nowtv.com/article/what-is-highest-streaming-quality-for-my-device
Dunno if you are still following this?
After a bit of messing about I appear to get better results on my PC Stick when I restrict the number of CPU's/threads that the Cisco DRM and nowTV player processes can use - not entirely sure why, and the improvement could just be coincidental. You can do this manually through Task Manager using the "affinity..." property, but it needs to be done every time you change the stream.

Also, at the risk of labouring a point... headline bandwidth figures like 50Mbit/s only tell a very small (and insignificant) part of the story. They are used to help ISP's boost sales but they tell you nothing about the stable/consistent error-free throughput. You may find that running your line at a lower rate will improve your streaming (though it will also slow your download speed).

Let me use Roads (that you drive on) as a metaphor for Broadband. The number of lanes on the road extend the metaphor and represent Broadband Max Bandwidth; if the motorways with multiple lanes are full of accidents (Broadband errors) blocking/slowing your progress the number of lanes (the bandwidth) really don't matter/help... It's sometimes quicker to take the much smaller "A" roads... unless you get stuck behind a tractor - but this complicates the metaphor!
Unfortunately, accidents on roads (bursts of errors on Broadband caused by interference) are very difficult to predict so you can never be sure that you are going to take the quickest route... I prefer to drive safely and improve my chances of arriving at my destination in one piece (I run my ADSL with large SNR margins/targets - downloads are slower but I get very few errors)!

Hmmm... maybe that's an analogy not a metaphor?
Language is hard.

P.S. I'm not trying to push this service I just want to see people get what they have already paid for (ie stable broadband and 720p resolution).

:D OK let me stress again, the boxes apparently work fine for the most part. I am talking about getting it to work on a PC. If you don't believe me, check out the shambles of the NOW TV support forum.
I am also completely aware that the boxes are normally given out with subscriptions, and are very cheap to purchase on ebay. None the less, I'm surprised that a company this large can't get their act together and provide a reasonable platform for windows streaming. I've never had issues with streaming like this (incl. netflix & amazon and multiple free services on this laptop)
FYI I get >5mb/s sufficient for 720p (Sky), but it shouldn't matter with non-live streams anyway. I would expect to be able to choose quality/buffer it. Also, in-browser streaming is only supported on IE with silverlight (which itself is being phased out) and the 'now tv windows app' which they list on there website is no longer available (yet they still link to it). I am trying to use my only option of their NOW TV player.
tl;dr got the windows app working fairly well on a crappy little PC stick with atom CPU over WiFi! I've never tried a box.
Just been through this myself very recently... currently have an old i3 laptop and a Z3735F PC Stick running the nowTV Player in 720p over wifi with no big issues; the streams do have a bit of judder/jerkiness as though the refresh rates are slightly out - I have tried changing refresh rates but haven't yet bothered playing with the TV's post processing.
My stable broadband connection is just slightly slower/less than yours.
The first time you try and watch nowTV on a new device it should ask you if you have already downloaded the player... at this point answer so that nowTV will download a player for you. If - like me - you tried to be clever and downloaded the player in advance from the windows store and skipped this download then you will have to clear your cookies or use a different browser before nowTV will offer the download again.
I couldn't get nowTV to utilise the player that I downloaded from the windows store - but I didn't try very hard.
My PC stick struggles to load the nowTV web pages - I haven't looked at this yet, I just accept that it will be very slow on that device. When the TV app runs on that device the fan is always on... this does not happen with HD streams from other software - so I guess the app and streams (and web pages!) are not as optimised as they could be.
On the stick the stream takes a couple seconds longer to buffer up enough data to show in 720p (I suspect the sticks poorer wifi/CPU as the main culprits here)... in the meantime it shows a very low res blocky image. Obviously, the longer it takes to buffer up some data the longer you will be watching this blocky image - could try pausing??.
I agree, it is disappointing that there does not seem to be any sort of settings in the player. But it works and has full screen so I guess they think that's good enough?
I have only briefly checked the forums (to see what refresh rates I should use) so I don't know what they suggest but if I were having problems I would check:
- wifi bandwidth... is the connection good enough for sustained throughput
- CPU utilisation... the app seems to tax my little Atom... check what else is going on (Anti Virus maybe? Updates?)
- broadband connection... this is a tougher one. People can be quite happy with their broadband and not even notice just how unstable it really is. [rant] If I knew nothing about computers my router would happily connect to my ISP at 10+ Megabits per second and it would be up and down like a wh0res knickers... it does finally get managed down and settle at a lower rate but still with more errors than I am happy with getting bursts of errors that interrupt comms for a good few seconds (long enough to miss your bet if you're playing poker!). All these errors could upset the video stream. These errors wouldn't really be noticeable when just browsing. If you can force (or get your ISP to force) slower communications (increased SNR Margins) or increase the depth of interleaving (improved error handling) on your line it may become more stable (though interleaving will increase latency which may upset any online gamers). I set my own SNR targets when I sync which lowers my bandwidth to around 5Mbps and makes my connection rock solid even through the long periods of interference. This is all stuff I feel should be done for Consumers long before they decide to stream content into their homes - we really shouldn't need to know so much in order to get a stable broadband connection in the 21st century!! [/rant]
Any shortcomings on your end will get exposed/exaggerated by more demanding activities... nowTV seems to be way more demanding than some other streaming services (DRM maybe?) - though, tbf, I have not tried any other premium services on the Atom.
Anyway, I've gone on too long already... if the price is right then with a little perseverance you can probably get acceptable results (assuming your hardware is up to it).

Thanks for the suggestions!

I'll have a closer look into it, it was just very frustrating at how poorly managed their windows service was. Off hand I can't identify any problems - running on i5, regularly speedcheck at >= 6mb/s (looks stable), nothing else running.

I might try IE with silverlight.

Netflix and Amazon don't let you choose higher quality and buffer before starting playback, they use adaptive bitrate and stream at what they decide is the best quality that allows you to watch without any buffering. NowTV works the same way so I don't know why you expect them to offer something their rivals don't.

Netflix have only just started an offline download facility for some shows.

If you have a Sky box then you can choose to download content in HD and then start watching when enough of the show has downloaded to watch the entire show without it needing to buffer before the end. It sounds like that is what you want NowTV to provide, but that is only available to Sky customers who are paying a lot more.

Got mine today works. What's best kodi install..?
Mine arrived today. it seems to be completely dead, no lights on when plugged in, tv not recognising it
any suggestions??

ETA think its the power supply. how to I identify the pin size I need. I have other 5v adaptors, but the pin is too big. And I have power adaptors of higher and lower voltage - can these be used?

Thanks but failed for me: "Hmmm, we don't recognise that voucher."
Tried within a new and old NOW TV account.
The new account was created to use the 50% discount for purchasing the 6 month Entertainment and Cinema passes so not sure if this is considered as as offer as stated above - "This offer is not available with any other offers.".
Neither NOW TV accounts had an existing Sports pass.
I thought Now TV codes were only good for one use. You'd need to find someone that doesn't fancy taking up the offer.

You can't get a sports pass as a trial.
Sometimes you can get a free day pass. Pretty rare though.
Look for a discount month pass. Probably still upwards of £20.

I got a little 'open for your pass' scratch off code booklet within a leaflet bundle @ Chessington entrance,
though I didn't get a free box (in the field nr Zufari) as I didn't have my payment card with me
We collected ours from Thorpe Park today - there were a couple of locations around the park, but we decided to go to the one in the main dome on the way out to save carrying it around with us.

We didn't need to show any tickets (obviously without one you wouldn't have been in the park anyway) and there was absolutely no sales pressure from the girls, in fact, they were extremely open and recommended to cancel the subscription when we got home (you need a card to register but no payments are taken until the end of the free trial period) and we would be able to continue to watch until the end of that period.

They also told us if we used two different e-mail addresses (they cant have been previously registered with Sky or NOWTV) then we could have two boxes, which we took advantage of, and they gave us extra passes too.

There is a work around to still run plex on the nowtv boxes it will also allow the use of the USB input to play media files. This will involve opening the boxes to carry out some simple hardware/software changes. A friend studying for his masters degree did this as a side project for me.

hi, forgive my ignorance but how does this work ... do you save 1 box until the other expires ?
I managed to order one for collection in a few days. I think this will be my 3rd or 4th box with the 6 month pack for £20, cheaper than leaving it to roll over. I already put the 3 month Chromecast offer on so I'm good until March 2018!

Really not worth that. I paid around 25 at one point. The problem with
the freeview implementation on this box is there's no number buttons to change channels so scrolling through the list each time is a pain.
Have two of these boxes in the kids rooms - perfect for Now TV. Was able to load a few other apps too from the official store, but not able to sideload anything to allow media streaming. Freeview is HD but the implementation is poor - no 7 day guide (only now/next), no recording, and sometimes randomly channels will disappear requiring a retune.

I decent price for a spare HDMI lead, box and remote, but even at £2.99 the content has been pretty static since the children's section was split off from the entertainment pass. Most of the series are incomplete (The Batman, Justice League, The Legend of Korra et cetera) and they have been since the start. So unless you or or kids are desparate, even £2.99 is a bit much.

It's a shame Disney's service isn't more accessible on more devices.
Same price as Tesco FYI

I got 2 months for £1.39 each when I went to cancel
I initially had a 1 month free Movies trial, which I cancelled at the end and was offered the £6.99 deal. I declined and went ahead and cancelled. A couple of days later I received an email offering me the pass for 99p for a month. When that ended I was offered the £3.99 a month for 4 months.
As for Entertainment pass, I got 3 months with Now TV box for under £10.
hot from me - always worth checking the deals being offered before you add your next voucher.

I've been with them almost 2 years now but have never been offered less than £6.99/month for movies. I've only ever paid full price once though (for the very 1st month, with £12 TCB cashback), & since been using either discounted boxes or other low-priced offers or passes off eBay.
Same with me , have used discounted boxes, Samsung offer, NUS offer. If i have to pay more than £3 per month I will be gutted.
Not forgetting the Chromecast offers.

Yes. Tescos, Co op, and Sainburys have different things on special offer, so make sure you only pay £1 each time. I tend to use Tescos because each club card point is worth a penny as opposed to Sainsburys where each point is half a penny and you don't get anything at co op because it's not a co op product. Yes, I am a massive tight a**e.

nice deal, but Samsung are awful at updates.
is this tablet any good for downloading a few movies and games onto without becoming sluggish?
have 2 of these for the kids. No apps installed on SD. Great tab but both mine have an annoying glitch where they reset themselves to 2014 date and Wi-Fi stops. You have to manually put in the date again to get it all working properly again.
I like the look of this, but the 8gb of ROM is a no-no. The wife struggles with 16gb in her Nexus 5X.

Plus I think I'm right in saying that the fact that it's on 5.1 means that apps can't be installed on the SD card either.
Cracking deal.... Been looking for a new tablet and trust Samsung.

Looks like both Now TV are in stock to buy

worth it for silicon valley box set.

I have had one reactivated over a year after purchase, they just checked it had not been used before they do it immediately on "chat".
I'm not saying that they won't re-activate a pass after 12 months, but as far as I can tell, there is the possibility they might not. Paraphrasing their terms and conditions, all passes can expire, (even those bought on their own website and not yet used.)
The Expiry Date question has been asked a few times over the years, on the Now TV Forums. In this post from Jan 2017, the Now TV Moderator states... "If purchased from an official retailer (such as Tesco, Asda, Dixons or John Lewis - there are many more) the vouchers within a NOW TV Box bundle should be eligible for a year after purchase. This is also the case for many gift cards which can also be purchased in stores.
