Superb reviews, cheapest new is around £149. Manufacturer refurbished, direct from them so you shouldn't have any warranty issues etc.
Bought one from here 6 months ago. Was completely as new. Bargain.
I have this , the sound quality is very good for it's size. Definitely a premium product.
Also £20 cheaper than the Roberts site. It’s a great streaming device, sound quality is great for its size

Just to ask a stupid question, what's the obvious alternatives to this with its USB port for watching your own e.g. mp4 files? Running a server with Plex? (But that seems for the tech-savvy only...). Screen mirroring with Chromecast etc.? Some other way? Thanks.

Plex is actually really easy to set up, and makes accessing your media a dream. I regret not discovering it years earlier.
Trust me, it's the best option and much better than mirroring or Chromecast. Plus once it's set up it's very user-friendly for your family too. Basically it turns all your media files into your own personal Netflix.
You don;t need to be tech-savvy, and there's lots of how-to videos on YouTube. Best of all Plex is completely free. (There is a paid service available, but you really don't need it).

Interesting. Little stated difference between the express and the 2. Express has private listening via the app, but no screen mirroring. The 2 has extra ports.

I don't watch much HD content, my plex is all SD to enable external streaming, and I don't notice that much difference between the 2 devices. I do love the remote headphones on the 3 though, so that player sits in my bedroom. I believe this may now be possible on the express through the phone app though?

I also have a 3 and love it. The remote headphones are great but if your WiFi 2.4GHz bands are congested, there is a lot of faffing to get rid of the dropouts. Also, I have never managed to get headphones to work with the remote app at all on the Roku 3.

I suspected that the express would be pretty much as good as the Roku 2. Makes the 2 look very expensive.

DAB was always inferior to FM but with extra features and more channeIt's laughable to switch from Radio 4 on DAB to FM on this radio FM is clearly superior. DAB does still sound decent with this though thanks to the great sound quality here making the best of things.

My findings so far:

It retains 9 Bluetooth devices and connects quickly to the most recent device.
Interface can be a bit sluggish to respond. Skipping through DAB stations for example. Presets will be used here.
Volume control and buttons feel a bit weird but work. I suspect due to the types used to keep it splashproof.
Display could be bigger but it shows a lot of info and overall the thing just looks cool and is a nice form factor IMO.
It's got a USB charging port on the back behind the mains power flap which delivers 0.5A.. pointless
It does seem to default to the first channel when you switch on to DAB.. still looking into that. I just hit a preset.
Reception seems decent.
It got through my rechargeables, but I've been using it a lot...
It will auto power off after 20 minutes of no activity from Bluetooth.. ideal for me as I'll listen to it before snoozing
Alarm clock only with mains, but you can use the timer on batteries.

At the price I'd say top marks for sound quality and doubling up as a bluetooth speaker for that..
Cool design and FM and DAB reception good..
I wouldn't use it with regular batteries, only rechargeables or mains..
Pity the interface is a bit sluggish, but it's still a "recommended" from moi and mine has been in constant use since I got it..
Dab is a real mess...stations broadcasting in mono at 32kbps, totally mismanaged.
Big shame because it could have been good.

Anybody know how to watch ultraviolet films on roku devices since flixster …Anybody know how to watch ultraviolet films on roku devices since flixster and CinemaNow stopped? Thanks

Hi, 'SS41'...

Unfortunately, there's no longer any Roku channels which support UltraViolet film playback in the UK. At one time, UK Roku users had multiple options for streaming their UltraViolet library but, one-by-one, these have all dropped away. In addition to 'Flixster' and "CinemaNow', which you mentioned, there was 'Sainsburys Entertainment' (who ended their services on 20th September 2016) as well as an Roku channel for 'Wuaki TV UK' - since rebranded to 'Rakuten TV UK - who ended the UltraViolet aspect of their service as of 1st March 2017. At that point, UK Roku users were out of options for streaming UV content!

In my opinion, there were too many flaws surrounding how the whole UltraViolet service was set-up to begin with. One of the main bugbears for a lot of users is how the availability of any given film was down to the individual retailer... so even if your UV code was redeemable on 'Flixtser' (for example) there was no guarantee that it would have been redeemable on ' CinemaNow', or 'Wuaki TV UK', or 'Sainsburys Entertainment' (and vice versa). Under the circumstances, it's not surprising that UV support has diminished to all but two options in the UK: namely, Kaleidescape [kaleidescape.com], or; Sony Pictures [ultraviolet.sonypictures.com] and, even then, I think the latter is restricted to just Sony Pictures content - plus, neither one can be streamed on Roku devices!

There's since been a (slight) glimmer of hope with the introduction of "Movies Anywhere" in the United States, which aggregates content from Vudu / Google Play / iTunes / Amazon Video letting you browse and watch your collection of eligible Disney, 20th Century Fox, Sony Pictures, Universal, and Warner Bros movies (along with bonus material and exclusive videos) across multiple devices. They already have a Roku channel developed, which has been released (and is already working) on Roku devices in the USA, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the 'Movies Anywhere' service (together with their Roku app) gets extended to the UK and (if so) makes a better job of things than UV did with their attempt.

However, for the time being, there is no Roku channel for 'UltraViolet' playback... so you may have to look to another device if you wish to use their service in the UK (TIP: several people have reportedly used Nvidia Shield with varying degrees of success for this purpose). Alternatively, you could consider making your own digital copy (in a Roku-compatible format) and then watching via the 'Roku Media Player' channel, or 'Plex', etc, etc. but those are pretty much your only options right now.
IoW_Skin6 h, 26 m ago

Hi, 'milady'...There's a lot to consider between the three devices you …Hi, 'milady'...There's a lot to consider between the three devices you have mentioned. So, it really comes down to your own personal wants and needs for a streaming device. If I were to choose the device shown in this deal, i.e. Roku 2 (Model 4205EU), over the newer 'Roku Express' and/or 'Roku Streaming Stick+' models... it would be purely on account of it having an ethernet port (for a wired network connection, as opposed to a wireless one) and a USB port (for playing media stored on an external drive and/or USB stick) since, in every other way, the two newer devices are just as good but cheaper (Roku Express) or better and come with more features albeit at a higher price (Roku Streaming Stick+).If you don't want (or need) 4K, but have a decent WiFi signal wherever you plan to use it, the HD-only Roku Express is a great streamer. I have one, which I use on a display close to my router (i.e. where there is a very strong WiFi signal) and have experienced no lack of speed when navigating the menus, or "drop outs" in my wireless signal, during the four months that I have owned it. I can highly recommend this to anyone with a decent wireless setup who is happy with HD-only (at best) and doesn't want a 4K-capable device. On the other hand, even if you think you *might* upgrade your television to a 4K model in future, then the 'Roku Streaming Stick+' would be the better choice for you. Yes, it will cost you more initially, but it's likely to be supported for a longer period of time than the 'Roku 2' - which will be three year old technology very soon - and, in my experience, buying the best (preferably *the* best) model you can afford will pay-off in the long run. To put it into perspective, my original 'Roku LT' from 2012 is struggling to run some of the apps now... mainly because the apps are constantly being updated, whereas the hardware remains the same... and even little tweaks in the firmware (i.e. the software that runs the hardware) cannot keep an old device going forever. Likewise, some of the other slightly older models (Roku 2 XS, Roku 1, etc.) are no longer as fast as they were initially. Only my 'Roku 3' and 'Roku2' (like the one listed here) are still doing okay with the current Roku OS and set of apps and that is largely because they were either the top-of-the-line (Roku 3) or the latest device, prior to the release of the Roku Express / Roku Streaming Stick+ models (Roku 2), but I'm not expecting them to be able to cope with the app updates indefinitely.Despite my personal preference for wired connections when streaming, on account of their being far more stable / reliable, if you asked me to pick just one of the three today, it would have to be the 'Roku Streaming Stick+'... but, for the reasons previously explained, if you feel that the 'Roku 2' or 'Roku Express' would suffice for your needs, I would happily recommend either one!

Thanks, this was really, really helpful . I hadn't considered the USB port issue, but I can see how that could be really useful for a lot of people. My wifi is super strong so I'm probably going to go for the 4K stick on that basis, but it's been really useful to finally understand the options. Thanks again!

Lol, "almost like they want you to use their own vod service".

Though strictly speaking, that may not 100% be the case, lol, in a round about kind of way, you may not be as far off the mark as you may think perhaps?.

After all (as a good example), Amazon website refuses to sell the Google Chrome Cast upon it ... (because the Chrome Cast directly mirrors similar features as that of what it's own Fire Stick does).

It reminds me of certain stories I read about last year also, that went along the lines of this, Apple was disabling the functionality of the Google Chrome Browser on it's iDevices/iProducts, but interestingly enough, the Mozilla Firefox Browser had absolutely no issues running/functioning upon those same said Apple list of products ...

(There are no doubt many other examples out there of similar misgivings perhaps?, but those were my 2 notable ones anyway).

So, in the grander scheme of things (so to speak), who knows what some of these Industrial Giant's are truly up to?, lol.

There is no need to use the supplied router, or any specific router as Torguard have their own apps you can use to connect directly to their servers. If you are connecting using Windows or Mac O/S, download here if you need it for a tablet or mobile use the Android App here and for iPhone/iPad here. The only exceptions to this is if you need to add a device like the Firestick (see below.)You can use any device which will connect to wifi, including the firestick. The free router is preconfigured to use the Torguard VPN, but you can use any half decent router which you are able to configure (using the router setup tool downloads here) which rules out most ISP provided router hubs.Given dannyolamide comment on VPN speeds using his Xiaomi router, if you intend to use your own router, it is probably advisable to search your make & model first to see what speeds you are likely to achieve. Anything below 9mb is probably unexceptable.

Torguard have said that they guarantee their dedicated steaming IP's will work and will replace an IP which gets blocked.

An extra $82 for each countries netflix you want to access though which is a lot if you want to access a few countries.
If only the old DNS services still worked as they only cost a few pounds a month and allowed you to stream netflix from almost any country netflix was available in. This gave you such a great choice of films and tv.

Well I apologise then, since it was an honest mistake as I misread your statement, but stand by my original call out on the price being inflated. However, resorting to name calling is very childish and I believe against the policy of this site, you should be ashamed of yourself.

Your entire statement was that, prices drop based on if they don't sell, …Your entire statement was that, prices drop based on if they don't sell, and you then stated you paid the outrageous price of £36 for the DVD Gladiator, to make your statement look more credible. I called you out on the fact that the DVD was never that highly priced, unless you were fleeced, and DVD had become a well established format by that time, so prices had naturally dropped. You forget you might have been buying your first DVD back in late 2000, early 2001, but some of us had a large collection by then, and may even have been involved in the sale and distribution of such items. So derail, no, actually it was showing that your statement was not true, even if you did actually pay the price you stated for the DVD at the time.Have a nice Christmas, and thanks for the compliment.

One of the greatest films of the century so far. The director's cut is also terrible! A good director's cut can usually add a few key scenes to change the tone or pace of a film or motivation of a character to benefit the overall feel of a movie, but the director's cut of this movie changes it drastically and almost completely changes the movie for the worse. Stick to the theatrical cut.

NO THEY ARE NOT M8 !!!!
My Pure Legato ( £380 ) broke.
They replaced it with another one.

Good my "ELBOW" !
I used to really want one of these but an old otherwise obsolete android tablet seems to be up to the job. They're still more expensive than I thought they'd be by now.

Just a word of warning to anybody buying this primarily as a streaming box …Just a word of warning to anybody buying this primarily as a streaming box - don't make the same mistake I did!Whilst the NVidia Shield has iPlayer, Netflix and Amazon Prime TV, it is missing ITV Player, All 4 and My5 (and possibly others). This stems from the fact that it uses the Android TV OS, and none of the developers have produced apps for this.Being technically minded, I tried to sideload the Android apps, but none worked satisfactorily. There are rumours on the XDA Developers website that a sideloaded APK from a Sony Smart TV might work, but I didn't have any success. It's such a shame that ours got returned - it's fantastic in all areas, except replacing an ageing Fire TV box as primary TV device in our household!

It does now have ITV player. (Source I have one)
