The reviews for the chicken thighs were enough to put me off.

Quite sad really that you've singled out the only one of the products with a poor review to on a perfectly good deal.

Those who need to make ends meet need to think of also not having to eat meat every day. You don't need to have it all the time and you'll still thrive. The Indians know a thing or two about it:

Yeah honestly thinking you need to eat meat all the time is just pure ignorance. Best thing for the public would be some genuine education in cooking and nutrition. That's what the government should be doing, or should have done a long time ago

Exactly, how poor do you need to be for this to be satisfactory? I’d rather give up on life then resort to eating such garbage.

I applaud the attempt but I have to question the volume of food.
520g of fish for 2 meals for a family of four, would equate to 65g per person per portion.
fishgloriousfish.co.uk/por…de/ suggests 200g per adult and 150g per child portion size.

That said it could assist with budgeting and plan meals for a week, and regardless of reviews of the individual ingredients, if you're not a confident person in the kitchen and struggling to plan and budget, this might be a good guide to help someone start planning, and increase their confidence to try different meals and vary their nutrition.

Who would have thought a website promoting and selling fish says to eat more fish

Good intention, but the recipes could be more creative. Not enough veggies, I'd add recipes with legumes and veggies to the list. Lentil and carrot curry, veggie risotto, pasta and bean bake - all cheap and nutritious. Just got XXL packs of lentils and paella rice.

What a terrible state our nation has been plunged into that a retailer would produce this type of campaign.

Heat from me, as it could be invaluable to some families.

This type of campaign generates sales. Don't for a moment think this has been done with compassion.

This looks dire, there’s a horrible theme of beige food with hardly any veg going on, how hard would it be to use relatively healthy recipes for this?

I think perhaps a thread in discussions where everyone could contribute some cheap healthy meals idea's could be helpful.

Beans on toast (spaghetti, cheese etc) soup, stew, jacket potato, bubble and squeek, toad in the hole.
These are the classics I'd like to see, and very cheap to make.

Brilliant idea, it might not be 'perfect' in some peoples eyes, but its a start to help those who need it, well done Asda.

1x 2.5kg bag of spuds and that's to do meals for a family of 4 for a week? Lol they having a laugh? I can use a 2.5kg bag for one meal if I'm making mash, Shepherds pie, fish pie etc to feed 3 adults in 1 sitting ,possibly some leftover for another time. These meal plans are only suitable for those who have small portions.
    nathanobrien58's avatar
    nathanobrien58
2.5kg is comfortably enough for a week. You need to consider your portion sizes if your eating 2.5kg per sitting. I can make a shepherds pie for 4 and have 2 portions left for work comfortably using half of that.

You could always add your own veg.

Not everyone sticks to the recipe rules. (edited)

I think it’s a decent set of meals for the money and will help a lot of people. Is a bag of frozen peas not healthier and more economical though?

No, the cans are part of the free gym membership included in the £20 when you lug this lot home.

Not a deal. It's Just information for people who don't know how to cook. You can make far better quality meals for the same price if you know how to cook.

This is fantastic for people who are genuinely struggling to feed their families well done asda.. those who are fortunate to not need this deal shouldn't really slate it- some people are genuinely in need

They're very lucky because you can buy a lot more vegetables then you can Asda Value sausages. Less chance of getting rickets too.

Did the exact same thing today. Driving past and needed something so popped in. Massively shocked at the prices, no idea how people do their shops there. Or any of the so called big supermarkets for that matter (edited)

Aldi is still very competitive but feel Asda is cheaper than lidl now
    CynicalNurse's avatar
    CynicalNurse
Not cheaper but unlike Lidl it does usually have stock of more than half of the products.

Asda ready meals have shot up big style in price , M&S aren’t much dearer and far superior in taste and quality

    cheekycoxy4
That’s handy to know, thanks. I can’t believe the rise in prices of ready meals, long life milk and other bits. If there’s not much difference in price then sticking with Asda maybe isn’t the one right now. May as well go for M&S and enjoy it!

"4 tins of peas" even though you're limited to 3 of each item?

This range is great but as far as I know it's the same price as Tesco and there you can get as much of something as you need

Heat added but I wish they would allow you to buy more than 3 of each thing

The few ruined it for the majority with their panic buying. At least you have a chance of getting stuff

Why does the long life milk come under chilled?
UHT is milk treated without need of refrigeration hence the supermarkets don't put it in the refrigerator section
    stingersplash's avatar
    stingersplash
I still put it in the fridge when I've opened it.

As a mummy of 5 am always in the kitchen half my life..lol but i did resort to buying the yellow labels..and everything dat i brought without the kids knowing tasted nasty. All my lot recognised that this wasnt the same and i thrt i cud get away with it..even the chicken noodles were nasty and defo the chickpeas..even boiling them in a pinch of bicarbonate of soda were rock hard...i will never tounch the yellow brand again.

Heat added but where’s the nutrition from vegetables?
Some carrots, 1 pack of mushrooms and tinned peas for a family of four. That just seems inadequate.

Fair price I suppose but it's all a bit bland. I'm just glad I only need to feed myself for 7 days. I spend about £20 per week and that's for two meals per day.

Idea is generally good. There are 6/7 chicken thighs and you get 8 portions? M&S sell 3 good sized fresh Oakham chicken legs for £1.20. They don't shrink and are really tasty. Tinned peas for veg? a pack of frozen peas would have been cheaper (from some supermarkets) and tastier.
