A popular and versatile mixture of Hosta, that will add depth and character to your garden borders or patio containers. These hardy perennials, also known as Plantain Lilies, have striking leaf variations in several shades of green, where pretty flowers will blossom from July to August in purple or white shades dependant on the variety. We recommend planting in well-drained, fertile soil along with other contrasting Hosta varieties to make more of a feature or plant alongside Asters or Salvia to deter slugs and snails from damaging the colourful foliage. These wonderful Hosta are low maintenance, easy to grow and will reach heights of up to 55cm. Top quality loose roots supplied.

Planting Notes
Soil Type Fertile, moist but well drained

Growing at a glance…Water well after planting and regularly in their first growing season. Mulch annually in spring with a good layer of leaf mound or garden compost around the plant. Slugs love hostas so you will need to protect against them. Plant straight away on arrival in any fertile, well drained soil. These are young plants, so please leave in small pots for 5 to 6 weeks and then pot on into a larger 1.5 - 2 litre pot, or plant into final spot.

Big fan of Hostas as I've got quite a shadey garden. JParkers I'm less of a fan of to be honest. Very long delivery times and they'll generally end up sending quite sub par plants when they do arrive. Your experience may vary.

If you're after Hostas and aren't too worried about the variety, Wilko do a lovely mixed pack of 3 bare root (same as these) for £2.50.

Available in store (but quite prohibitive delivery costs with Wilko).

Strangely, with new "organic" slug pellets we had no damage at all last year though it could have been summer heat. Bought several more when they were available at Lidl last year and the are doing pretty well.

J parkers is great, however I think Dutch bulbs is the same company just more for commercial customers. The prices however are usually cheaper for future reference.

Eg fruit trees £13 on Jparkers but £11 on Dutch bulbs.

I always buy from Dutch bulbs as the quality is brilliant. I bought 5 fruit trees a week ago, they sent me 8 as they are bare root and I'm guessing they're getting close to end of shipping times for bare root trees.

Exactly. I pulled up the last of my hostas last year as they were a breeding ground for a destructive army of slugs.

are these hardy through the winter? Bought a load of plants last summer that were 'hardy' that haven't lasted.

I have mine in a pot and brush grease around the rim. That works.

It's a shame, but Hostas always come with a free gift of armies of slugs !
