sorted bySome studies have shown that sucralose can change your gut microbiome by lowering the number of good bacteria by half. Research done on animals shows that sucralose can also increase inflammation in the body. Over time, inflammation can lead to problems like obesity and diabetes.
I think the recent research you’re referring to, and most of these animal/cell studies to be honest, requires inhuman levels of sweeteners. It can’t be applied to humans directly and prove causation.
Over time excess sugar can mean excess calories which can lead to obesity which can lead to diabetes. That’s a proven link, the link with sweeteners is nowhere near as strong. Sweeteners are generally safe and do have a role in helping reduce sugar intake if you wanted to do so.
Unless they taste horrible of course and we all know some drinks with sweeteners are atrocious.
