If you/your child is likely to do maths, A levels or similar these calculators won’t be good enough.

I had a scientific calculator at school, I never found out what all those buttons "up top" were for

I used a casio FX something for most of my OU Maths exams. The one I had didn't have a standard battery compartment, so I had to pack a mini screwdriver in case the batteries needed replacing mid exam
When I was studying for o-levels back in the 1980s, we were recommended to use a basic Texas Instruments model. Cost a packet back then, and I can't help thinking the school was getting a bit of a kickback on the sales. I expect we have some posters that remember using slide rules and log tables ...

Better off spending a couple of coins more on the fx 85gt imo, much better machine

I had to wait ages to get bought a scientific calculator. I was so proud of it when I finally got one. It took two days for someone to steal it out of my bag. Never had another one since.

There is a new version of the FX-83 out called the FX-83GTCW which is £13.00 for the blue version or £14.89 for the black version on Amazon. If I were buying a calculator now, I would be going for the newer version given the small price differential.
