The Prospex Black Series 2022 – Seiko Heritage collection – 1970 Recreation - Limited Edition
There are just 5,500 pieces of this particular 2022 'Black Series' design available globally.
Very popular since its inception and now in its fourth year of limited edition release, Seiko Prospex Black Series is inspired by the mysterious world of night diving.
The 2022 Series is inspired by key moments from Seiko’s diving heritage – 1965, 1968 and 1970 - this particular design is a modern version of the 1970 timepiece.
The 1970 Diver’s modern reinterpretation timepiece was named ‘Captain Willard’ by fans for Martin Sheen’s character who wore it in the ‘Apocalypse Now’ movie. The original 1970 Diver’s timepiece was worn by Japanese explorer Naomi Uemura, the first man in the world to climb the highest peaks of each five continents – wearing a Seiko diving watch whilst he did it.
The orange colouring of the markers and lumibrite is designed for increased visibility in the dark world of the night sea – orange is the colour of night divers’ lamps, allowing time to be read clearly under dark conditions.
This timepiece is accompanied by Seiko's first ever original nylon strap for diver's watches, created in 2021 – the 'SEICHU.'' Made in Japan with a traditional texture pattern following the intricate design of Kimono belts, the strap is specifically designed for diving flexibility and durability. It also comes with an additional silicone strap.
Seiko Prospex watches are designed for sports lovers and adventure seekers in the water, in the sky or on land – and are robust for everyday wear, whatever the environment. Since launching Japan’s first diver’s watch in 1965, Seiko’s innovative watchmaking has changed global dive watch standards.

Never understand Seiko QC now, too many people I speak to tell me about the bezel not lining up and if Casio and other brands can get that right surely SEIKO can.

Got to admit the Willard watch was a cool design, just a shame now a days Quality Control sucks. I have a couple of Original early Seiko divers, but would never buy one now unless I could view it in person before purchase as I no longer trust them to send me one out by mail order undamaged, or poor quality.

Some fair comments posted here on both sides, Seiko's current power-reserve and advancements in movement add to the appeal for me, but not enough to buy.

Used to buy Seiko many years ago when I put my watches through some heavy use, have to agree I think its £200-£300 over priced, but voted hot because for current fans it is a deal.
Also, like most AliX watches, the branding is terrible, with stupid names and logos, and if anything goes wrong (which is quite possible as it’s fully mechanical) you are on your own, fixing it here in the UK would cost you double what you paid.
I agree this Seiko is overpriced, even on sale, this is a £500 watch at most.
yes its a massive reduction on rrp but sorry
Having said that, there are some models that were quickly sold out and now are selling for double on eBay, check the Alpinist with the Ginza dial.
Vacheron?
Audemars?
Not a big fan of the prospex tbh.
I appreciate the movement/style of the 2000s Seiko's, the Premier Kinetic Perpetual calendar were beautifully made timepieces, not a massive watch expert so just my humble opinion
Look at this my friend and Keep £ 587.51 in your Bank (edited)
