technically they’re still above the Original RRP which were £449.99/£359.99 Disc/Digital until Sony decided to ramp up the RRP to £479.99/£389.99 due to “inflation”

If anyone has access to edenred or similar through their workplace, you can buy an electronic gift card and save yourself a little money. I managed to get a discount of 4%. I did add the insurance to my basket hence the order total value. 50057519-BuLjd.jpg (edited)

You don't need a workplace discount to get the 4% off by buying a gift card. JamDoughnut (see App store/Google play store) has the exact same deal - you can buy a John Lewis gift card and get 4% off. Anyone can sign up to JamDoughnut. I've used it lots of times.

I do not recommend the digital only system. You save a bit now but pay a lot in the long run. I bought mine and many games can be found half off in physical boxes. Sony never ever ever drops prices so you pay £70 for games with half the price on the shelf.

I've barely used mine because of it. DO NOT buy this one unless you're glad to spend more in the long term, it isn't worth it.

    Hi friends,
My son been asking for years to buy one. I need some help, might sound weird but I’ve never owned game console. Why is there a big price difference between digital and the disc version? Is the disc version better?
    Thanks in advance.
    tre123's avatar
    tre123
The main difference is the disc version you can play disc games you buy from the store. Digital version you can't do that as it doesn't have a disc drive.

My advice is to go for the disc version . The reason why is disc version of games are cheaper and they drop in price faster and you can sell and let others borrow them. Lots of advantages.

Finally, good price on a non-bundle.

Just in time for Street Fighter 6 and then FF16 in a couple months.

Do yourself a favour and get the disc version. Not only can you use it as a 4k dvd/blu-ray player but you will often be able to get games significantly cheaper. The digital versions of games are usually more expensive. Also with the discs you will be able to sell them and recoup a bit of money. Enjoy

Oouf so tempting, why does everything happen at once though (FFXVI and Diablo 4 same month)
I told myself not to buy a PS5 and wait for the games I want to come to PC lol.

However, I get a work discount, and also this £20 code...would make this £400 (disc edition), JEEZE, that is cheap.

I also sold my PS3 and PS4 as no longer use them so finally sold them on. Which I kept the money for to go towards my PS5 if I did buy one...So effectively, costing me nothing (in a weird kinda it makes sense way, right?) lol

The only thing stopping me now is the fact a new model may be out soon and I want that one if I do get one HAHA. That and I only want 1-3 games for this machine so my adult brain is saying just wait for them to come to PC a year or two later and play your current backlog!

Then the gaming fan in me is like BUY NOW!

    Damn it all. Lol (edited)

    One wise man once said:

“Dying is a matter of luck, we take life for granted but in reality we don’t know if we will live tomorrow. Everyone who dies had plans for tomorrow”

If you really want it I don’t see why not! Even if next day you buy it the new version comes out it will still be a great piece of tech. I doubt it will come anytime soon though.

I have a PS5 since release and I’ve been loving it so far! Even if the new gen is a bit more powerful, the gains will be not worth the upgrade if you already have one (IMO).

    most! 99% of them.

there are only a very few select games that don’t work which you can google. Those games are old and irrelevant anyway

Not enough exclusives to entice me yet. Not a fan of God of War - the only exclusive worth buying this for me is Miles Morales and GT7. Two games is not worth buying a £400+ console. Glorified blu ray player, then perhaps. I'll wait for a slim version (I hope)

How are Playstations £10 dearer than when they were released over 2 years ago? Can't really say its inflation as no other console ever went up in price after release.

The fact that people are considering an almost 3 year old console being sold for MSRP as a "deal" is ridiculous. When it drops even £10 below its 3 year old MSRP, I'll consider it a deal.

Also it's still a huge rip-off compared to the Xbox Series X deals that were posted here several times through use of voucher codes at anywhere between 10-15% off its original MSRP. Let these overpriced PS5s sit on shelves for a few months and get some actual price cuts. Also since yanks are still getting these consoles at MSRP and never got any price hikes, Soyny can go sell them over there to their "golden market". (edited)

Sony are just pricing it based off demand, component prices have fallen, 2 year old hardware and look at plummeting SSD prices.

They used inflation as an excuse
    Jyoosi's avatar
    Jyoosi
Outside of SSDs, component prices are still higher than pre-pandemic, which is when the original price was announced. They used inflation because they aren't a gigantic company who can simply absorb extra costs on loss-making hardware.

It sucks for everyone, but that's the way the world is right now. Microsoft continue to absorb massive losses purely because they knew that increasing prices when they were/are so far behind Sony in console sales would have been suicide. Their marketing department spun it up into a dig at Sony and as always the outrage society followed in it's droves.

But it's okay, cause Microsoft are buying Activision and Sony are the nasty evil now.

FWIW, both corporations are classic capitalistic corruption at it's finest, and shilling for either is the equivalent to bending over with a good ole Smart Price jar of vaseline open next to your ankles.

    Bagofsugar's avatar

Or buy psn cards which are usually 15-18% it's stated value and on launch its cheaper then actually buying the disk version.

How I see it if you buy loads of games or it's for your kids etc then disk makes sense but someone who buys a game or two a year, it take years before you feel the savings over disk.

Love the digital version. Looks more sleek, cheaper, just buy games from Turkey PlayStation store or buy discounted digital vouchers online and it works out about the same or less as disk. Without having to store physical media, or having to actually put a disk into the machine to play it. What is this, the 80s? (edited)
