Product Description
  • Potatoes

  • Delicate and nutty Freshly harvested from the fertile soils of Jersey At Tesco we believe in the importance of expertly selecting our seasonal produce for its freshness and quality. Working with trusted growers across Europe we ensure all our new potatoes are bought to you fresh throughout the year. In Jersey one of our growers is Ian Le Brun whose family have been farming Jersey Royals in the gentle climate and fertile soils for generations. The earliest crops are planted on steep, south facing coastal slopes, known as côtils, where seaweed collected from the Jersey beaches is used as a natural fertiliser, a method dating back to the 12th century. The new potatoes are then harvested by hand and have a delicate, nutty flavour. Once harvested, the care continues as the new potatoes are packed and shipped daily to ensure you get them at their freshest.

  • Pack size: 450G

Quick search on this site shows these used to sell for 50p when on offer, 1kg for £1. Yes we are all going through a cost of living crisis but Tesco seems to be the worst at inflating prices to profiteer.

    Sainsburys 500g £2. Asda 500g £1.50. Morrisons £1.99 450g. Tesco 450g £1. Tesco is cheapest.

Fantastic marketing - worthless, tasteless potatoes.

Jersey Royals are an absolute triumph of marketing over substance - the advertising enables them to pump up the price as they pump the potatoes full of water to bulk them up without any flavour. No longer grown in the way they used to be grown, and no longer worth buying. Taste them - you'll soon find out.

    One big marketing con trick.

Jersey Royals are planted and harvested by hand apparently so will affect their cost. I think they are very nice but not as nice as "ratte potatoes" which I grew last year and have just planted this years.

These are not like the first new Jerseys of the season which I used to love but it looks like it's not my dulling sense of taste which means that they're not worth a premium.

Very true, and you can be sure they’ll not get cheaper in the next few weeks. The Jersey Royals will, but they’ll still be tasteless.
