Add Some Fizz to Your Routine with the Sodastream Offers at hotukdeals
Sodastream is the world's number one manufacturer of home carbonisation appliances. These handy little machines take pressurised gas from carbon dioxide cylinders, and pump it into standard tap water, which can then be mixed with a huge range of flavours. The result can be healthier alternatives to Coca-Cola, homemade Kombucha and much, much more.
The concept behind Sodastream has been around since the 1900s, when the company was founded by Guy Hugh Gilbey. Originally catering to an elite crowd, the company's devices really caught on in the 1970s, when they became a must-have gadget. These days, they are a fixture in homes across the country, but which one should you choose?
Sodastream Specifications Buyers Need to Know About
As well as the main soda stream features, you might want to check out the main specs:
Capacity | Bottle capacities vary in the Sodastream range. The Spirit and Spirit One Touch come with a 1L BPA-free bottle, but 0.5L bottles can also be added. The glass carafe with the Crystal model holds 620ml. |
Size | The Spirit, Spirit One Touch and Crystal models are relatively compact, measuring around 43 x 13 x 20 cm. So they should slot into almost any kitchen layout. |
Weight | Again, with their comparatively small sizes, Sodastream drinks makers are usually lightweight. For instance, the Spirit weighs just 2kg and can be lifted and packed away with ease. |
Colours | At the moment, Sodastream offers all of its UK models in a fetching black colour with chrome elements, but there are no other colour options. |
Gas Capacity | Every Sodastream drink requires carbonisation, which requires CO2 gas. The models available in the UK include a 60L CO2 canister which “twists” into a compartment behind the unit. |
Guarantee | As with all appliances, Sodastreams can break and malfunction. Generally speaking, the company provides a 2-year guarantee for all drinks makers. |
Features to Look for in the Sodastream Range
Here are the main things to looks for when buying a new sodastream:
- Models
In the UK, Sodastream offers a small range of carbonated drink makers. At the low end of the scale, the Spirit is a no-frills seltzer maker, while the Spirit One Touch is a little quicker to operate and more adaptable. Crystal Glass is the top of the range, using attractive glass bottles instead of BPA-free plastics.
- Flavour
It's perfectly possible to use a Sodastream appliance purely to make fizzy water – and many people do so. However, if you want to be really flexible about cocktail making, adding flavours is essential. From Classic Cola to newer entries like Kombucha, the range is impressively wide, and details can be found here.
- Uses
If you want to make cocktails for dinner parties in double quick time, the Crystal Glass Sodastream will be big help, letting you prepare bases for all sorts of drinks in an appealing serving vessel. If you are making drinks for a family, Spirit will be fine – although the capacity of the bottle isn't huge.
- Mobility
Sodastream devices can be really handy when you stage garden parties or head on vacation, but not all products in the company's range will be suitable. If you need to take your drinks maker on the road, the cordless Spirit will be ideal.
- Customisation
The downside of the standard Spirit Sodastream drinks maker is that it has very few customisation options. If you aren't 100% confident about mixing the right amount of gas or you just want more control, the Spirit One Touch packs 3 carbonisation settings and is much more precise.
- Packs
Sodastream sells its major products in “packs” and the contents vary. For instance, the Spirit comes in Standard and Hydration Packs, with the latter offering an extra bottle, and a couple of bonus flavours. When these packs are discounted, they can offer the best value around.

How to Use Sodastream
Follow these simple steps to use your sodastream properly:
Using Sodastream drinks makers is extremely easy. First, take the cap off your gas canister and open the panel on the rear of your Sodastream device.
Insert the canister and gently press it upwards. When it has connected to the nozzle on the device, twist the canister to make the connection tight. Then replace the panel.
Now, take the water bottle and fill it with ordinary tap water as far as the guideline.
Move the handle on the Sodastream towards you, so you can insert the water bottle. Push the bottle upwards and towards the device, and you should feel it click into place. Don't force it. Just ease the bottle in nice and gently.
Check that the device is plugged in (or charged if you are using the Spirit). Now, press the button to engage the motor and hold for a second or two. Then repeat a few times, depending on how much fizz you want to add.
When removing the bottle, don't be too aggressive. Firmly but carefully pull it out of the socket and it should come without any problems. When that's done, you're ready to take your first sip of fizzy goodness.
However, if you want something a little more exciting, you can add ice, flavours, and alcoholic drinks. It's really up to you – which is one of the reasons why Sodastream makers have such a loyal following.
What are the Most Useful Sodastream Accessories?
Here are some useful soda stream accessories:
A Sodastream FAQ
Sodastream originates in a gas and liquid mixer invented by Gin maker Guy Hugh Gilbey in London in 1903. The company itself started life in the 1950s, and became a household name in the 70s and 80s.
Sodastream machines simply pump pressurised CO2 into containers of ordinary tap water. Users can decide how much gas to add and what flavours to use after the gas has been infused.
Sodastream sells its drinks makers online, but you can find them at merchants like Currys, Argos, Amazon, John Lewis, Nisbets, Lakeland – almost any major kitchen appliances vendor should stock them.
The carbonisation process exerts powerful forces over Sodastream bottles, eventually weakening them and causing cracks. Replacing bottles is therefore advised to prevent potentially harmful accidents.
Most Sodastream bottles will last for three years during which time they can be reused as much as you wish. Crystal carafes won't need to be replaced – a major bonus of that particular model.
All Sodastream flavour mixes will have a specified shelf life, and the flavour will be impaired beyond that point (although the mix almost certainly won't be dangerous to drinkers' health).
If used regularly and without wasting a drop, Sodastream can be a cost effective way to make fizzy water – but the actual financial benefits are likely to be fairly marginal.
Sodastream's soft drink mixes feature lower calorie recipes than store bought alternatives like Coca Cola so they could well be a healthier option for fizzy drinks addicts.
Shopping Advice to Find the Very Best Sodastream Deals
Sodastream drinks makers are more than glorified gas pumps. They are a potential money saver, reducing the need to purchase bottle after bottle of fizzy water. They are game changers for cocktail fans, and open up the potential to brew relaxing, nutritious teas that previously required a trip to expensive cafes. They are, in short, a purchase that many people feel the need to make. But with even the cheapest Sodastreams costing around £100, saving money is always important. Thankfully, there are a few ways to do so.
The first thing to think about when finding a cheap Sodastream device is whether you need to pay £20-30 extra for the features provided by the Spirit One Touch. It's nice to be able to calibrate carbonisation levels like a pro, but many people will feel that's a luxury too far. And the same goes for the glass carafe bundled with the Crystal version.
Secondly, be sure to hunt for bundle deals. As we've already discussed, Sodastream devices aren't much use without gas cylinders and flavourings, and if you buy these separately the costs can mount. So look for multi-pack Sodastream discount code offers which include everything you need. Also, remember that Sodastream themselves offer various packs. The Hydration Pack is a good starting point for new users as it includes flavours which would otherwise be costly to purchase. So if discounts are available, it's always preferable to the standard bundle.
Whether you buy bundles or just a Sodastream device, the most important thing is to shop around, and hotukdeals makes it easy to do so. Our Sodastream listings pages feature the latest deals on Spirit, Spirit One Touch and Crystal versions from merchants like Argos, Currys PC World, John Lewis, Amazon, The Range, and Sodastream's own online store.
That's not all. When you shop, you may also notice some models that haven't been mentioned yet – such as the Sodastream Genesis. This compact model often retails for less than £50 but has been discontinued by the manufacturer. Even so, there are still bargains to be had – so if you want a portable carboniser for a low price, the Genesis could be worth looking out for.
Finally, Sodastream devices are always discounted when retail events like Black Friday in November roll around. So check for sale bargains in the New Year or around Amazon Prime Day in mid-summer. All of the best offers will be listed at hotukdeals, so check back with us and we'll hook you up with unbeatable prices.
