Inevitably, at an average item price below 50p. More landfill fodder, sadly. (edited) - jamie60509Buy cheap, buy 5 times!
- BesfordIt's the kind of kit which makes the uninformed think they've got a 'tool kit'. When they come to use it they discover they really haven't. One use tools most of the time and really not cheap for what it is. (edited)
- adamguest1985Handy little box for those who need the essentials. Heat.
- Dazzer1234I bought this kit, despite having all the same tools separately. It’s a really useful box of tools to have in the house for the odd jobs. Not always the best quality but perfectly fine for most needs. I find I use this kit at least weekly as it has most tools you need for odd jobs.

Is there one that you recommend? Im looking for a decent set. Thanks
I wouldn't buy a set at all, I'd just buy a few decent tools and build from there. Sets work for things like sockets or screwdrivers, but rarely as a one-stop shop with all the tools you're likely to need.
Having said that, something like this looks decent enough for £85 and probably covers most bases for the DIYer, but might be overkill, depending on what you intend to do with it. Reviews suggest the quality is good too:
WZG Werkzeug 102 Piece Hand Tool Set Mechanics Kit Including Spanner &Socket Set - Ideal for Workshop & Garage : Amazon.co.uk: DIY & Tools
There are other similar looking things for less money but my guess is the quality of this is likely to be decent enough to last most people, maybe replacing the odd item as necessary, whereas a cheaper one is likely to frustrate from the start.
Most of the tools in this set are the kind of thing you'd need if you're dabbling in a variety of tasks, but even still there are things you'll miss, like a wood saw, or a spirit level. Which is why the one-stop tool set isn't ever going to suit everyone IMO: there will be items you'll use a lot (pliers, hammer, screwdrivers, hex keys), some you still need to buy, and some you may never use at all. (edited) - happyuser1974I have a similar kit and it's junk. So every time I need a new tool to do DIY, I buy a good one and throw away the cheap one. You don't notice the cost because it's spread over a longer period, but you certainly notice the quality!

Agree, much better off buying a few core items for household jobs (eg screwdrivers, pliers, hammer, measuring tape, sockets) of decent quality, and then adding others as needed. Keeping an eye on HUKD will probably get most core tools of good quality at bargain prices, with a bit of patience.
With this set, people will most likely end up frustrated when the tools don't do what they're meant to....soft screwdrivers, flimsy knife (maybe even dangerous), inaccurate spirit level... - viliu_mei had a smaller set from them, the wire cutters snaped on a copper wire..... its true , it was thick , but still is copper........

+1, any sets like this but that will last? - glduuknot great quality, so VFM rating actually not that great either
- xahr.ahmdI got this last year too for 25. Wrench is rubbish, rest of the tools are OK for basic DIY. Ratchet came broken, only realised a month ago. Will call argos for advice

They are excellent, I agree, but they don't really do anything that answers the question IMO as a set, they don't cover all the tool bases for household DIY (saw? knife? level? waterpump pliers?), and you'd easily spend hundreds (maybe more) building a set from them which I doubt @RST was thinking of doing when asking the question.
But as a basis of building a good set of tools, you won't go far wrong with them, and based on what they do (mainly aimed at car mechanics) they do it very well.
I'd say Bahco hit the sweet spot between quality and price too, generally, and especially when on offer, and do cover more bases for tools. (edited) - JoeUk123Looks like b & q do some decent ones
