With winter coming, they are very good for finding heat loss areas in your house (draft doors, windows) and working out heat loss.

I used one (actually was the older model) to find all the air locks in my central heating system.

This is what I have bought it for and I am now going around rectifying the areas that need attention. I did it the opposite way around though, finding the hot spots when the heat wave was on.

I can re assess once it gets cold to make sure everything is insulated! Great little tool.

If you've got a dog and take it out for a walk in the dark, at a time of year when there are brown leaves all over the ground, you'll appreciate one particular use for this device. A cheaper alternative is to just use a torch and look for the steam.

Can you step back and image front of whole house? Or do you have to be close to the area (e.g door or window)?

I really want one, but just for a day. Then I could do all the work needed, test again (OK, so 2 days!), then never need it again!

I have had a garden office built. Some of the insulation was missing when they were building. They have assured me they have rectified the issue - but could this be used to find where insulation is missing? I don't want to start ripping down plasterboard without being sure. But i'd like to get them back to resolve if any is missing

    Thanks!

Don't bother with any other brands they will seem cheaper and have a higher spec but will be near useless as they don't superimpose the 2 images well if at all. Stay with flir

Given how much typically these thermal camera costs, this is at least in a justifiable range. Not sure how long it will last, but it is useful around the house, and will be useful to detect cold drafts around doors and windows. Got it when it was this price recently.

Hot and Cold spots in PCs and on motherboards. Can help sort out cooling issues etc. and prevent overheating.
Hot areas on a mains distribution board, and any mains wiring etc. especially behind walls, for fault finding or tracking cables.
    Lots of plumbing use.
Finding hot & cools spots on 3D Printers, heated beds, nozzles etc.

Yes, I have a very old model ... and I am so tempted by this.

Also good for spotting overheating bearings, transistors etc. Was interesting to see the shapes when my wife was pregnant too!
