Crazy Prize I am looking for something around £150 but the deals are all really bad right now no decent offices.

Keep an eye on Reyooz for chairs from office clearances.

They don't have any at the moment (they did a big clear out before the end of the year with 50% off everything), but they often get nice office chairs, sometimes Herman Miller

That's a great deal too, wonder if the warranty and it being new is worth the additional £278, probably not if the build quality is what they say it is.

Best chair ever owned being a software developer, I had 7 years of slouching after having this chair for two years the chronic back pains I once had have gone and my posture is fine now. It’s a big investment but if you spend your day in front of the screen it’s the best investment you can make. The 12 year warranty too is amazing!

Same for me too. I bought a HM Mirra 2 though . When I sit in a poorly made chair now I really notice it! (edited)

It will probably protect you from having back issues in older age. That’s more valuable than anything you’ve listed

That specific one in the pictures with the adjustable armrest using a cog means that chair is older than 2005, Aeron has been out since 1994. The ones with a lever came out in 2005. Pictures also missing the back lumber. Anything older than 2017 will be an Aeron Classic, the one in the link OP posted is an Aeron Remastered which has been revised updated slightly. I probably wouldnt recommend buying from the link youve sent because the chairs seem too old basing it on the pictures, I'd only recommend buying used if you know what you are looking out for because theres also spec options some dont have adjustable arm rest or have tilt functionally or the back lumbar or posturefit.

I'm sitting in this exact chair as I'm typing this. I've had mine for 4 years now and I have no regrets whatsoever.

Before buying it, I would go with office chairs in the £100-£250 range, but I was never happy with any of them. None of them ever lasted all that long before either a squeak/creak developed or the "leather" started to wear away in certain places, but my main gripe with them is that I couldn't sit comfortably in them for long periods of time. Typically, either I'd get back ache, the front part of the seat would dig into the underside of my knees/legs a bit, or I'd get a bit sweaty in the hot summer months.

When it comes to the adjustment options, quality, and most importantly - comfort - of the Aeron, I couldn't be happier. I never thought I'd drop over a grand on a chair, but yeah; sometimes the high price is worth it. After 4 years of daily use it looks/performs as good as new and still has 8 years of warranty left.

I can second this, got a Logitech embody (I read the original embodys can’t be sold in the U.K. due to their fabric being a fire risk) from them for £760 last year. It was meant to be something previously returned and as far as I can tell it was new, though you don’t get the 12 year warranty

Great price! These are phenomenal if you can afford one, but I wouldn't buy online without sitting in one first as the right size makes all the difference
    Poch's avatar

I would add that it's not all about sitting on one but ensuring that all the adjustments are made, such as armrest height, seating height, backrest tilt, etc. You'd be amazed the people that don't do these things and then complain. The guide that comes with the chair details all of these points.

Not a bad price but Herman Miller occasionally run a promotion. I bought mine brand new May last year for less since they offered 15% off:

£1000 for an office chair with a 12 year warranty works out at 4 pence an hour of use over the 12 year life (almost 25,000 hours of sitting time). And then after 12 years, you can replace each part of the chair individually without having to buy a whole replacement chair. And because it's a classic design from a reputable manufacturer all the bits will still be available. Most people who own Aerons get 20+ years out of them without needing to replace anything.

Companies buy these because most people fit in an Aeron B (there are 3 different sizes) and can adjust them without needing a training session. They are designed to be comfortable for most people which means some people are going to be better buying something else.

Funny how people can justify spending 10s of thousands of pounds on a car that they will sit in for 5 times less time a year (12,000 miles at average 30mph) than their office chair.

Obvs, you have to have £1k to drop on an office chair, but this is a top quality item at a good price. Of course you can get cheaper, just as there are cheaper options for a car than something like a Range Rover.

Yes. You can't judge it until you have spent some hours on one. If you work at a desk, this is the best I've had. John Lewis may have one on display, but you only really get to try... you really do need to spend time on it and adjust to your liking.

My internal reasoning is that I used to spend £200 a month commuting on a train and now I save that by working from home. Better to use that money and invest in something good for my posture and back after nearly 3 years on a cheap chair for 8 hours a day, works out £6.93 a month over a lifetime of 12 years.

Managed to buy original (not remastered) two 5 years ago for £400 each for my office at home and been the best chairs I have ever had, comfy, supportive, not had any problem with the mesh filling with dust and grub, still look in very good conditon, only had to replace lumbar support on one, otherwise going strong.

I woudl highly recommmend if you can afford. Sadly the 2nd hand prices went up a lot during lock down.

I had a Herman Miller for years. They're VERY good chairs and extremely comfortable. The only problem I had was that thy really only accommodate sitting in it 'properly', which won't be an issue for some, but I like some sometimes put my legs up etc. FYI for those who do the same. You can put your legs up, but as the surround is (dense, very good quality) plastic, it's not comfortable. I bought a Steelcase Leap v2 and that issue is no more, but I do miss a lot of things about the Aeron.

You will only ever have to buy one. Especially new, as the warranty is 12 years. Although I doubt you'll ever have to make a claim! (edited)

I bought one of these for the Mrs during covid.... Best purchase ever. She doesn't have a clue about the cost though. Paid £750 refurb with alll the chrome trimmings and i have to say it really is a solid comfy chair even now. I would recommend even at this price. How much do people pay for their iPhone each year? This will last for ever...... Get one you won't be disappointed.

There’s a guy in Reading that sells refurbed chairs on eBay. He says he used to work for Herman miller, when I met. Seems a decent guy m. He does all makes. Bought a 2 zody chairs for £175 and £150, which are £1000 each minimum new

Ikea chairs are rubbish. I returned my wife’s £175 ikea chair after 2 years use it was falling apart, and got £25 for it, the Hayworth zody is a million times better (edited)

I have been looking at a chair the last few days and then this comes up. I looked at getting a second hand but instead saw a refurbished one instead. So it should be like new and has a 1 year warrenty.

£599 for the classic, with the full spec.

Used one at work for a few years - ruined more than one pair of wool suit trousers - seems to have a mild sandpaper effect, if like me you fidget in the chair.

I should point out that I have bad posture - been a coder for over 30 years - and typically sit for over 7-9 hrs a day.

Having since switched to other office chairs - I find them just as comfy - if not more. e.g. RH Logic chairs at work and much cheaper Homeworker Plus Ergonomic Chair around £400 new from Posturite. Perfectly comfortable and adjustable chair.
If I could afford it / was going to spend £1k , I would buy an RH Logic chair. (edited)

I bought one of these "dot-com thrones" for £180 on Facebook Marketplace. It's a very old one with the little gear wheels to secure the armrest, and the mechanism casing is a little cracked, but it doesn't affect the comfort. I've never sat in a more comfortable chair for long term (coding) work, and I've had various £400+ chairs in the office. The hard frame around the front edge stops me sitting in stupid positions with a leg folded under me. Whether it's worth £999 depends on how long you sit at a computer for, and whether you're prone to back/shoulder pain, but I've definitely had my money's worth!

For new, this is a good price. You can pick them up for £200-£400 used (with all the tech redundancies there are quite a few around at the moment), but the 12-year warranty and quality is why they're so popular in offices, as well as the posture and support being excellent for employees.

People will pay £1k for a TV that they're replace in 5 years, but not £1k for a chair they'll use just as much that'll last 10+ years Sure, you can get a fine chair for £250, but it's really not a bad investment.

Pretty much the route I got mine - ebay seller who did office clearance had picked up loads after various tech companies went bust. Technically used / second hand, but mine didn't have a mark on it. Still going strong for me 11 years later.

I bought one used didn't like the noise it made when titling back (think it needed silicone WD40 in certain places) but I also didn't like the rigid back either. Replaced it with HM Embody also used but the prefer the tilt and back more.

Just a cheap chair made to look nice/like a gaming chair.

For everyone who is going to say the usual "WTF ...all that money for a chair" I would just like to say this...

I too ummed and arrd about getting one and thought its crazy paying this much but now after 2 years of having this same chair I have come to the conclusion its one of the best things I have ever bought.

I had a a Vertagear gaming chair and fell for all the gaming chair speil...within 2 years I had to replace the hydraulic lift and the bottom mount where welds had cracked...not to mention the cracking of the vinyl....and its uncomfynes

So I bought an Aeron remastered....it is in a TOTALLY DIFFERENT league...2 years on it looks EXACTLY as it did when new ...it still has 10 years left on its 12 year guarantee and feels bl**dy lovely to sit on.

There may be chairs just as good for less money...I dare say there is...but I don't regret buying it for a minute.

I rock Herman Miller X Logitech G Embody Gaming Chair which I paid nearly £1500 for and another £180 for the Atlas headrest - I would spend that sort of money again in a flash!

    If you sit for 8-10 hours a day then that's a no-brainer.

You do not want to save money on two things in life, a bed+mattress and a chair if you sit all day working - all you doing is sacrificing your health by trying to save some money.

People spend tens to of thousands on a car they use 1.5hrs a day, yet a chair you might use for 8hrs a day for decades, that determines the state of your back - 1k is somehow outrageous. I’ve got one of these and it’s worth every penny.

You can spend £99 on a chair that does 95% of the job it’s designed for perfectly well or you can spend £999 for something that does exactly the same thing but that little bit better. Not criticising here, just stating what we all know.

Bought mine 2nd hand on Ebay for less than half this price but it's definitely worth its £1k price tag.

When I changed job from being outdoors and on my feet for 8-10hrs a day to sitting down for 10-12hrs a day, I really struggled.
My back would start giving me all sorts of problems after 4 hours. Ever since I bought this chair, those back problems dissapeared. I sit easily all day with no pains. What seems like an overly priced chair is actually worth its weight in gold for those who need it.

Like a bed, a chair you spend hours sitting in every day should not be something you skimp on. Think of your poor lumbar. (edited)
