The Grammy award winning English rock band's 2022 ninth studio album. Of the album, Muse frontman Matt Bellamy says, 'Will of the People' was created in Los Angeles and London and is influenced by the increasing uncertainty and instability in the world. A pandemic, new wars in Europe, massive protests & riots, an attempted insurrection, Western democracy wavering, rising authoritarianism, wildfires and natural disasters and the destabilization of the global order all informed 'Will of the People'. It has been a worrying and scary time for all of us as the Western empire and the natural world, which have cradled us for so long are genuinely threatened. This album is a personal navigation through those fears and preparation for what comes next'.

I was a big g Muse fan but really had to come to terms with them being potentially burnt out when I invested in 2nd Law. I just could not get on with it, sadly.

Every release since then I have relied upon reviews to guide me, before committing to a purchase.

Unfortunately, I have not happened across any favourable recommendations for Muse releases in recent years. "Will of the People" appears to be no exception if the following excerpt from NME is to be believed:

Working under the auspices of another vague, dystopian narrative, the UK band slaps a shiny new label on the grafted remains of better songs and calls it the ninth Muse album.

I will try and promise myself to give the album a fair trial and give it a go on a music sub service. For now though, I'm not biting.

Same. Used to be a huge Muse fan, in fact I'd probably still describe them as my favourite band on balance such was the importance of their first 4 albums to me. I also enjoyed The Resistance and that was the last tour on which I saw then live, but every album since then just hasn't chimed with me. I did like Won't Stand Down as a single and had high hopes for the new album, but again it felt decidedly uninspired.

I actually liked this album and I have all their previous ones too. Bands evolve, listeners evolve too but often not in the same direction. Just because you used to like a band and don't now doesn't mean their stuff is rubbish, just your taste has changed. For me it was Iron Maiden that lost me with Fear of the Dark! You do get the odd band that grows on you though as time & albums arrive, Kaiserchiefs for me have gotten even better with age for example.

Have to agree, last one even remotely enjoyable was black holes and revelations

I concur, a stunning album with no filler.

    A true modern classic.

Count me as one of those fans who has adored them in the past, but the new stuff is just so bleh. I have so many happy memories of seeing them down the years, truly amazing times, but now I'm out.

Oh dear, I'm sounding like one of those old men I used to mock when I was younger! (edited)

Seems like a mash up of Gary Glitter's rock and roll part two and Marilyn Manson's beautiful people.

I was very disappointed in this album, but after taking a break from it and listening to the odd track in the car some of the tracks are quite good, such as 'kill or be killed' 'Verona' and 'We are f****** f***ed, theres no doubt that their early stuff is much better, but even the later albums normally have a few good tracks, even if they are often slow burners, still, it's a lot more than most bands can muster after 2 albums, let alone the 9th.

I saw Muse at Wembley arena (with Biffy Clyro and My chemical romance). Awesome gig...

Origin of Symmetry and Black holes are both epic.

    They're just muck these days.
If they were playing at the bottom of my garden I'd have to think twice about whether I could be bothered to go and watch. (edited)

Wembley Stadium, June 2007. I was there on both nights, they are more suited to college talent shows now, can't even understand the interest anymore

Yeah, this is cheap cos It isn’t selling, I guess that’s the will of the people. Terrible album from a band that has produced a run of albums each worse than the previous, since the heights of Resistance.

Yeh, I agree. Mind you, it probably isn't even that cheap if you consider what (if any) VFM you'd get from such a pants effort!

Was lucky enough to see them in Vegas Hard Rock in 2006, which was awesome, but think they have steadily declined each year since in terms of their albums. ☹️ (edited)

I think if you've heard one Muse album you've heard them all.

I'm not really a big lover of muse and bought this as were going to see them at Milton Keynes this year. I was surprisingly pleased with this album, my first since Black Holes. Several good tracks obviously influenced by some 70s pomp pop.

This album is truly dreadful. Keep hoping they'll turn it around but each new album is worse than the one before. Pretty sad to see a band as good as Muse churning out rubbish like this.

Muse have been in decline since 2009, this drivel has seen a lot of their tour not even sell out.
