9th May: Dark Grey 3 Seater option in stock, here

Dispatches from
Abakus Direct / Sold by Abakus Direct

Good buy at £199 but I can barely find any reviews!

There is one review of the "Harper" cuddle chair that praises it but seems to have issues with the legs (they do look a bit spindly, to be fair). The sofa and chair look nice but clearly have a design fault. (amazon.co.uk)

Another review for the Harper Grey 3 Seater: Perfect (amazon.co.uk)

4123245_1.jpgThe Harper sofa is on ebay (just realised they have an ebay store) eg, the 3 Seater is on there for £445 + £29.99 postage.

(I'll go with ManoMano's description, below, of the three seater, as I'm not sure the official website link above is correct):
This Harper 3 seater sofa offers a simplistic but elegantly contemporary look with its slightly rounded arms, clean straight lines, subtly flared split back cushions and its slim legs finished with a brightly coloured wooden varnish. Upholstered in a luxurious velvet fabric, you also enjoy hydrophobic protection against spills, being able to simply wipe them away and not let them seep into cushions.

Taking care of your comfort are deep filled fibre cushions and foam block seats. Enjoy the Harper in a neutral grey, a regal Heather rose and a trending forest green colour.

It's a big sofa, very roomy for the two seater. It's bigger than the two seater I already had in depth and height. The material feels a bit cheap and it's a lot darker than the photo suggests. I got the grey one and I'd say it's more of a dark charcoal grey. The sofa is very light. I picked one up and stood it on its end, with no help.
The frame on the side of the arms feels like it's made of cardboard. You can feel it when you press on it.
It doesn't look terrible and it is comfortable. I think I just realised that I've paid £400 but was expecting £1200 quality. I'd say £400 is about what its worth. I bought it for a conservatory for low use. I'm not sure how it would fair in a high use setting

The delivery guys were helpful and would definitely help you get it up the stairs (edited)

Strange as mine was very heavy and the arms are pretty sturdy. Each to their own I suppose but I had a £1000 sofa before and I can't notice a difference in quality. If anything, as it is a lot firmer it feels like it will keep its support a lot longer

We bought a corner sofa from Abakus. It’s better than I thought it would be and comfy too.

I *could* have left the pictures and video of what I received on this thread, but I refrained as I felt Amazon would help me resolve this unfortunate purchase. (I have submitted an Amazon review about this, yesterday, not published yet, which has the video and photos).

Finally I agreed on a 50% refund yesterday (they offered £30! at first which is a bit outrageous, given the state of the sofa which turned up!).

I left negative feedback on the seller's page yesterday - it is sharing my experience, after all - and today Abakus are borderline hassling me to remove it in numerous messages.

I always have the same mindset when communicating with buyers or sellers - stick to the facts, don't let emotion or opinion come into it and try to be fair. Negative feedback sucks but if it's the truth, that's life, unfortunately. I have not been rude at all.

This closing gambit is the most unprofessional behaviour I think I've ever experienced online and I would urge caution before buying with them:50475381-3zbvx.jpg50% refund means I'm still down - not a lot of money thankfully - (and I said this in my feedback - I also said they communicate promptly) and I thought that was the end of it. But a seller "taking their bat and ball home" (ie, telling me they will send a courier to pick up the item without my consent) because I refuse to remove truthful feedback is beyond the pale! I bought the Green. Wish me luck!

From when Homebase had its knockdown furniture sale in 2016 - I think - (something to do with the company being purchased by Bunnings?) - I bought a leather 3+2 set, pretty sure it was the Piacenza in Brown, though, one has better quality leather than the other, for some bizarre reason. It was so cheap (£200-odd all-in) it didn't seem worth complaining about. Advertised as aniline leather - would say the two seater is, but the three seater seems almost like PU. Really weird. So I'll be replacing my three seater. (edited)

Delivery text today which I've rescheduled, so it does indeed seem to be "happening". Hope it's the three seater (not so bothered about the colour)*. And, of course, I like it, as it's always slightly anxiety provoking buying furniture "blind".

Oh fantastic, I was quite worried about this after the conversation tommiekiddy had with Abakus (no offence to this member at all).

Glad you're happy with it and it's not cheap and nasty (at least, doesn't sound like it). I've sent a message to reschedule but haven't heard anything yet, though it's 10 days from today, I'm sure it'll be fine. (edited)

Me overthinking things and being unsure about the negative reviews I saw about the supplied sofa legs - I bought these in preparation for my three seater.

    amazon.co.uk/LC-…C33

Bit pricey I suppose at £44.33 but cheapest I could find a four pack and I like how they look (just hope they're high / sturdy / manoevurable enough). I'd prefer a different colour but that's all I could come up with at this price point.

I got my new sofa legs / wheels in exactly 10 days. Didn't realise all the bits were loose, I thought it'd be ready-made, though I'll get boyf to put it together!

Not sure which postal service was used to the UK but it had a Tracked 48 Royal Mail sticker on it (usually when I order from Amazon US it's a courier - not complaining, though). (edited)

Oh no, comments like this make me nervous! What is wrong with it particularly? Is it the frame? Do you feel it's not roomy / comfortable enough? Badly finished?

I find better-made sofas feel more "solid" and don't have "space" where you can feel gaps in the frame through the fabric. This Harper sofa is on ebay (just realised they have an ebay store) eg, the 3 Seater is on there for £445 + £29.99 postage.

Makes me wonder whether to just cancel.

Not sure if this is any use to anyone but may help others seek out what they want / don't want in a sofa.

Not trying to contradict what cam2012 says, this is more to try and make up my own mind! As I've realised they have an ebay store I searched for references to the Harper sofa. Here's what I came up with:50076131-DDGkE.jpg50076131-WYK8O.jpg50076131-kXi0C.jpg50076131-D94IB.jpg50076131-bn26u.jpgWhat should I do? I think I'll keep the order. If it's a real disaster at least I have Amazon's customer service (well, the A-Z Guarantee for third-party sellers). (edited)

Take it and have a look. It's warming on me. It is a lot darker than the picture though. I think that added to my shock tbf.
Maybe it would be even better if I got those feet that you've bought. Are you having four on each sofa or just two for the front
    louiselouise's avatar
    louiselouise Author
The supplied Harper legs don't look that weight-bearing to me and there's been complaints from a few reviewers, so I thought I'd get something sturdier.* Going to put all four on.

Boyf says I'll regret it as I have laminate floors but these wheels are quite "stiff" - (sitting on a sofa that has two of them. Honestly think they'll be okay).

There's much cheaper sturdy wooden legs from third-party sellers (even Aliexpress) but I like the look.

The Grey 3 Seater is showing in stock again at £199 Abakus Direct | Harper 3 Seater Sofa Couch Settee in Dark Grey Water Repellent Velvet Fabric: Amazon.co.uk: Home & Kitchen
50139942-sU1p0.jpgNote that their ebay store has the Harper style in Light Grey and Dark Grey.

Abakus must hate me, I had to re-jig my delivery date again as I'm getting my old sofa uplifted and dates changed, also I'm getting another bit of furniture delivered on the agreed date (those issues are not this seller's fault, but it's good to get it all out of the way in one day). (edited)

I can elaborate a bit more on the delivery arrangements - I phoned Abakus yesterday because I'm trying to get old sofa removal - new sofa delivery - and another furniture item to all sync on the same date.

(Maybe my Scottish accent - he didn't even ask for my order number and said, Are you Louise XXXXXXX? )

My partner has been moaning about the one man delivery thing and asked in the background if I can request two guys delivering it to my flat (2nd floor flat). The person on the phone said they can arrange a two man delivery (?) and I asked if it would cost me a bit more. He said no, so, bit puzzled by that, but there it is.

He was very friendly and eager to help (the Abakus rep). Wasn't sure I'd get anyone on a Bank Holiday. (edited)

It is a "thing" - I had a Tetrad sofa delivered by one man who dumped it at the bottom of my stairs (was some years ago).

There's an ebay seller (who also has a website) who is sending me a (albeit flat packed) metal bedstead that's a one man delivery (says on their listings).
  31. cam2012's avatar

    did you get the sofa
    louiselouise's avatar
    louiselouise Author
Yes. I didn't say anything till this point as I was in dispute with the seller.

Obviously my experience is mine alone and I may just be unlucky. Mine arrived a few weeks ago as I had to arrange pick up of my old sofa.

My partner assembled the (Amazon US-bought) castors (which were all in separate pieces, so I left him to it) to attach to the sofa (still partially boxed).

When he turned it around - I was shocked. Stained, hair on the base (I don't have any pets) and it squeaks even with very little pressure put on the sofa. I've never known anything like it.

I sent them photos and a video of my partner sitting on it, to demonstrate the squeaks (seems the video hasn't sent properly, now I look at Amazon Buyer / Seller Messages, but I still have it if they want to see it!). At first Abakus Direct said they'd replace it...then I got a later message saying they have no more Harper models left - so it will be a partial refund or replacement.

Bear in mind 1) I've given my old sofa away (which was still perfectly usable) and 2) Abakus Direct have a store full of other sofa models - so potentially I'm left with no sofa.

I get that this was cheap, but this isn't great customer service, in my opinion.

Abakus Direct still have the Light and Dark Grey Harper 3 Seater options on their ebay store (and they've been there for weeks and weeks) but they told me yesterday these are on there on error, yet the listing still remains today.

Amazon (live chat) are going to liaise with them again. I'll probably phone Amazon later.

(PS: Around this time I also received a "new" bedstead, from another ebay seller, lots of furniture moved around at mine! That arrived with weird oxidised marks on the "brass" sections - and was bent as well! So I have really had bad luck with furniture recently. That seller is sending me a new bed frame and picking up the damaged one).

Fair to say it's been a bit stressful as faulty large furniture items in two separate rooms is a bit of a pain. (edited)
